Chapter 123 - 123-Hero's Gambit

Dozens of armed players rushed over, their eyes burning with vengeful fire.

"You had a blast shooting at us from the sky earlier, didn't you? Now let's see you run!"

"Let's go, kill her!"

The players started pouncing on her, and one player swung his sword at Helena, the blade gleaming with a deadly shimmer.

At this critical moment, the sound of a firework rocket whistled through the air. A figure dove down like lightning and landed firmly in front of Helena.

Clang!

The sharp sound of clashing metal rang out. It was Alto who deflected the heavy strike with a netherite sword.

"Alto!"

Helena looked up as her eyes filled with shock and relief.

He glanced back at her briefly, then he quickly tossed his elytra to her.

"Take this and get out of here, fast!"

Before his voice finished echoing, the surrounding players swarmed again, but Alto's hands were already moving.

Swish, swish, swish!

He quickly placed a row of cobwebs in front of him.

The players at the front didn't even have time to react before they became caught in the cobwebs.

"What's going on? I can't move!"

"It's cobwebs!"

Helena stared at Alto's back as he stood before her, and her heart skipped a beat.

"Don't worry about me! Even if I die, I can respawn. You should leave quickly, Alto!"

"Just take it and go."

"But you..." Helena bit her lip and wanted to say something, but Alto interrupted her.

"Stop talking nonsense. I can get away. If you don't leave now, it'll be too late!"

"I'm not leaving!"

Alto was getting anxious. If she didn't leave, how was he supposed to show off properly? Besides, he couldn't let the players get their hands on her equipment.

"If you don't leave right now, I'm docking your entire month's salary! Go!" he shouted insistently.

Helena's cheeks instantly reddened significantly. All her panic and fear were instantly gone at Alto's display of protectiveness.

Looking at Alto's firm back, her heart started racing wildly. She suddenly took a step forward, stood on her tiptoes, and gave Alto a quick kiss on the cheek.

Alto's body stiffened as a hint of bewilderment flashed in his eyes.

Helena was really flustered. Clutching the elytra, she backed away quickly as her voice carried a mix of shyness and determination.

"Hold on, I'll be back to save you immediately!"

With that, she quickly equipped the elytra, activated a firework rocket, and soared into the sky toward the supply room.

There weren't many elytra in the supplies, so everyone only carried one. She was going back to grab another.

All of this actually happened in a mere instant.

By now, the players had broken free from the cobwebs.

Seeing that Helena had flown away safely, Alto turned to face the advancing players with a confident smile on his face.

"Finally, it's my turn. Lemme show you the skill of someone who sunk several thousands of hours into Bed Wars!!!!"

The players became even more excited when they saw Alto joining the fray directly. This was a walking million coin bounty!

"He still dares to smile?"

"Quick, kill him! He is worth a million. We're gonna be rich!"

A massive crowd surged forward.

Without wasting any words, Alto quickly placed blocks beneath his feet. In the blink of an eye, he had stacked up into the sky and then began speed-bridging horizontally with incredible precision.

The players only then realized what was happening, but Alto had already broken through the encirclement.

"Damn it, block him!"

"Let's call for backup! We have to keep him here!"

The person who just spoke was immediately interrupted by someone next to him.

"Are you stupid? If you call everyone over, we're gonna have an even harder time claiming that bounty!"

"Oh, right, why didn't I think of that?"

Seeing this, Alto turned and ran while jumping periodically.

"Chase him! He can't fly now. We can wear him down!"

The commotion here quickly attracted other players to the area.

But as Alto ran, he performed all kinds of advanced techniques. One moment, he'd place a TNT block and activate it, then flick it with a fishing rod to instantly blow up several players.

Whenever he was about to be caught, he would simply block the path with a stone. Continuing in a similar fashion, he managed to escape perfectly every time.

The chasing players were starting to scratch their heads in frustration. Jose had just respawned and geared up, intending to return to the front lines to fight.

His eyes lit up immediately with excitement when he saw what was going on. And his position happened to block Alto's path. Fate really was smiling on him!

It didn't matter if they won the match. As long as he could eliminate Alto, he would surely become famous.

He immediately grabbed his weapon and charged forward.

He stood directly in Alto's path.

"This is your end!"

Alto saw Jose suddenly blocking his path, but his speed didn't decrease at all.

"Perfect timing!"

Jose held a diamond sword with his face full of confidence. He was going to prove his strength today.

Even if his gear wasn't as good as Alto's, Jose was still confident he could take him down.

Holding his sword, he even performed a flourish while standing there. Seeing Alto approach, he prepared to strike.

The gap in swordsmanship isn't something gear can compensate for!

But mechanics can.

Swish!

"Huh! Why can't I move?"

In less than a second, Alto quickly switched to cobwebs, placed them, and then switched to obsidian.

Jose's advancing body was suddenly stuck in the sticky webs.

By the time he reacted, it was too late. To his bewildered eyes, Alto quickly surrounded him with blocks, and then he stacked them upward and sealed the top.

Done. Alto clapped his hands and turned to run with clean and efficient movements.

'Huh? What jus...?'

Jose, whose vision had gone completely dark, was instantly enraged. He was tightly sealed in by obsidian and unable to see anything.

"You coward, let me out!" Jose's frustrated shouts came faintly through the blocks.

By the time he finally dug through the obsidian, Alto was already far away.

By now, more and more people were chasing Alto and closing in from all directions, and slowly, a canyon rift appeared ahead.

He began running toward the rift while maintaining his jumping rhythm.

Many people were confused by his strange movements. "Why is he jumping while running?"

"Don't know, but there's a cliff ahead. He can't run any further."

The players chasing from behind were overjoyed at the sight.

But Alto looked down from the cliff edge. It was nearly one or two hundred meters deep.

However, there was a small pool of water in the middle. He jumped down without hesitation.

Seeing him jump, the other players chased to the cliff edge and looked down. They also spotted the pool below.

"There's water below, he won't die from the fall! Jump down and chase him!"

Seeing Alto jump, the players all followed suit and aimed straight for the small pool. As long as they landed in it, they would be immune to fall damage.

Anyone who played Minecraft on Earth knows exactly what is about to happen to those poor Bastards jumping down.

Alto landed steadily in the center of the pool and was in no hurry to escape.
