Chapter 1 - The Veil of Paradise

Nora

*Alarm rings

Beep beep beep. It's Monday, the new Starboomer town we just moved to is a place completely intertwined with nature, glowing.

Lights from flowers, houses made of abnormally large mushrooms, for transportation dragonflies—used in every color and every size, from pink to black, from blue to orange, the entire color scale—dreamlike but real; this is a very lovely place.

However, sometimes I miss that Los Angeles where I used to live, the streets where I felt the traffic deep in my bones, where the air smelled of pizza and people were friendly. I can't help this longing. I spent the most important and beautiful 18 years of my life there: Yuna, with whom I cried together in kindergarten; my friend Eleanor, with whom I learned to read; Helen, who comforted me when I got bad grades; and Maria, who stood by me during adolescence—now they are all in completely different, distant cities and are lost to me.

Although starting a new life will be difficult for me, I have a very important supporter who can help with this:

My grandmother

She is very important to me because whenever I got into trouble, if my friends at school slandered me or if warnings came to my mother from other parents, she would calm everyone down and save me—that's why I love her so much. She is 75 years old, yet very agile and fit; she exercises every day without fail, goes for walks, and keeps the house running.

Anyway, the other thing that gives me strength is that I have earned the right to attend the university that is most recommended and that everyone wants to go to for the pharmacy career I have always wanted: Universitas Naturalis Magiae

This university is the greatest chance of my life because my family is not very wealthy. My family apparently had a car dealership when I was 3 years old, but customers refused to pay their debts and our home was seized. My sweet, sweet grandmother paid all the debts and took us into her own home. She is truly very kind-hearted.

To return to the topic, this university is number one in healing and medicine-making because every kind of medicinal herb, plant, flower, moss, tree, and similar materials are cultivated here. The teachers, on the other hand, grew up brewing potions and healing in this environment; therefore, only those who are chosen and in whom that healing light is seen are selected.

Today is the enrollment day because the school is connected to Arbor vitae, which lives in the heart of the forest; therefore, I must be quick. Before going to school, I lightly glanced at the course schedule; since our first week includes orientation activities, adaptation to the dormitory, and how classes function, I think it will be easy—hopefully I am not mistaken.

When we arrived at the school, I was enchanted even before entering through the gate because Arbor vitae was extremely large, just like that tree where they live in Avatar. The campus gate was decorated with vines and flowers attached to them, and the walls were made of moss-covered bricks. The moment I stepped inside, however, I was shocked and couldn't understand what was happening.
