Chapter 2 - Capital

We arrive at the capital in silence, that is us being silent, the world around us is strikingly loud. The commotion of the street, traders and peddlers selling their wares, adventurers as well as soldiers telling their tales. This city is alive. Peeking through the window, I spot children gawking back at me. Flipping them off I rest my head against the seat. The carriage comes to a halt in front of a massive school, students move in groups greeting each other, others of more my style head in alone head at their feet.

Grabbing lethal six thousand killer, we exit the carriage. There a teacher greets us. His face has a morning shadow, his eyes shaded by bags, and his hair an utter mess.

"Miss Athena, you are the honor student of this year, and as such I have been assigned as your personal guide for the day." His head, unlike his looks, energetically bobs with each step.

He shows us to our dorms, the classes we will take, and the cafeteria.

I just had one question. "Hey teacher guy, why do we have to share a room?"

He turns to me with a frown. "We were told you were engaged, is that no longer the case?"

"Don't mind him." Athena grabs my arm, bowing she snaps it backwards.

I stare down at it, the dangling mess that it was, with a smile. "If we stay in the same room I might die."

"I don't see the problem with that. It is a rule on the campus, any higher ranking student can harm any lower ranking student. If you want to increase your rank, you can always duel each other." He turns away.

What a fucked up school, but this helps my plans, I can kill the hero without any conscience. In this kind of setting the hero is usually very strong, but put in a much lower rank than they deserve, so finding them should be easy, look for black horses amongst the lower ranks.

Tomorrow will be the first day of school, let's do this.

Entering our room, I thank the kindness of god, as we have two separate beds, I don't know what I would have done with this flat chested maniac otherwise.

I throw myself onto my bed. My arm still dangling loosely.

Plans, how should I start, I have formed many clichés in case I can't find the hero. Terrorists take over the school, of course they're all working under me, then the hero reveals themself to save the day. Or a quest is placed on the quest board, and the first sad sacks who try it fail miserably, then the hero steps up to the cause. There are plenty more amazing ideas flowing through my super intelligent brain. But now is time for bed.

"Wait Atlas, are you really going to sleep with lethal six thousand killer like that, aren't you afraid of hurting yourself?" She lays down on her bed.

The way she talks about my sweet angel is horrific, she would never hurt me, not even when I am asleep. I drift off into the night.

When I awake I feel smaller for some reason. I stand performing my daily stretches, but my hair falls into my eyes. My hair? My gold hair, not black, why is it so long. I run my hand through my long golden hair. Slowly I turn to the still sleeping Athena. Did she steal my first kiss? Rushing to the mirror, I am met with Athena's face. Oh fuck, oh fuck, how do I change back? This is really really bad, I mean really bad.

"I…" My voice it is also Athena's. I desperately look around, deciding to take decisive action. Grabbing lethal six thousand killer, I run out of the room. It is not a good impression to miss your first day of class, but at this point I don't know what else to do. Finding a silent secluded spot, I watch the sun slowly rise. If only that flat chested idiot didn't kiss me, then I would already be off trying to find the hero. Unstrapping my gun, I point it at passersby.

"Bang, bang, bang." I make the sound effects with each fake shot.

Any one of these nobodies could be the hero, I have to pay attention. That black haired boy with the average face. He is a good start.

I slowly creep behind him, ducking around corners when he looks behind. No friends, background seems to be that of a commoner, and everyone he meets cling to him like super glue, without a doubt this man has main character energy. Still that red head with spiky hair, and way too much confidence may also be the hero, so many choices, it is almost like this school is filled with main characters.

"Hey, hey." Someone taps me on the shoulder. "Athena, why are you wearing the male uniform."

I turn to see one of the nobodies we met yesterday. I think she was background character C.

What do I say, what do I say? None of my studies prepared me for this.

"Hi." I pull the relaxed smile.

She raises an eyebrow. "Hi?"

Nailed it, this nobody doesn't even realize something's wrong. "If you wouldn't mind, I have to go to the restroom." I give a slight bow trying to take my quick getaway, but she grabs my hand.

"It's cool I will go with you. We have the same morning class anyways." No, it's the old girls joining each other in the bathroom trick. I have been fooled, by this worthless nobody, wait is it possible she is the hero. If that's so I can get her alone, and kill her. It will be just that easy. Once I am done with her, all I need to do is make my unstoppable getaway. Tugging on my gun strap we walk side by side.

"So yeah I was like that is impossible, but this guy proclaimed if I can do it you will go on a date with me. What a loser. Before he even finished his little trick I was gone." She just goes on, and on, does this person not know what silence is.

She is disrupting my thinking, I need to focus, but she just won't stop talking.

Walking through the halls, I spot a glimpse of golden hair, that was all it took for me to jump out the window.

Fuck, this was the third floor. The ground approaches at an astonishing rate, almost as though it was greedy to get its hands on me. Despite the earth having a one hundred percent kill death ratio, my combat rolls saved my life. With a pant I slump into the bushes.

If Athena found out that I changed into her there would be hell to pay. Wait how would she even know it's me, they might mistake me for a monster and kill me on sight. That is tricky. Sneaking around the school, I make sure to stay in the shadows. Then I find her, sitting in the field eating lunch alone. Athena, my fiancée, is sitting in a field alone.

Time for mission code named make new friends. In my studies I worked as a voice actor, so this should be simple. I tie my hair into a ponytail, bury my gun, and make a mask out of cloth. The perfect disguise. You can call me some things, but a hard worker is not one of them.

I plop down next to her, stealing one of the mini hotdogs from her bento box.

"Hey." I deepen my voice a bit.

Her hands begin to shake in excitement. "Who do you think you are?!" Those words don't sound excited.

My arm, my arm, I smack the ground, as she twists my arm five different ways. Time for plan B of mission code named make new friends.

If I can't be her friend, then I don't see why I can't just make new friends in her place. Going around I suck up to a bunch of people. And copy those clingy anime girls actions on some of the guys, there is no way this doesn't work.

It seems it worked a little too well, hundreds of men line up to ask Athena out. It was rather pathetic. It only took ten guys with dislocated arms, for the crowd to scatter.

Mission, make new friends, is a failure.

All this running around really made me exhausted. I fell asleep that night clinging to lethal six thousand killer, hiding inside a bush.
