Chapter 26 - The Calm Before the Storm

Just then, Rai received a message.

Siddharth looked at him and asked, "Whose message is it?"

Rai replied, "That idiot... the one we haven't spoken to in the last five years."

"What? Seriously?" Siddharth asked in surprise.

"Yeah. Let me tell you what he wrote."

A message that had arrived ten minutes earlier appeared on the screen.

"Stop searching for him."

Rai frowned. "First, tell me this... how is he getting all this inside information?"

"I don't know," Siddharth replied. "And none of us is giving him any

information... could it be Jack?"

"I have no idea," Rai said. "I'll have to ask him."

He glanced around the room.

"Besides, none of them has regained consciousness yet. Whoever wakes up gets dizzy and collapses again."

"Alright."

Just then, Angel's mother walked over to Siddharth.

"So... who is going to India with you?"

"For now, no one," Siddharth answered.

"Looking at these idiots' condition, I don't think any of them can even walk with me."

She nodded.

"Yes, that's the right decision. That's exactly what I came here to talk about."

At that moment, a doctor rushed in.

"Kuro has regained consciousness."

Siddharth let out a relieved sigh.

"Finally... someone woke up."

He immediately hurried to Kuro's room.

The moment he saw Kuro awake, tears rolled down his face.

"This is all my fault... I couldn't save them."

His voice trembled.

"You saw Haiku's condition, didn't you?

If Emma hadn't been there that day... none of us would have survived."

He lowered his head.

"The girl who spread terror throughout 2015... that very same girl got down on her knees. And for whom? For useless people like us... who couldn't do anything."

Kuro shook his head.

"That's not true."

Just then, a doctor approached Siddharth, looking extremely nervous.

"S-Siddharth... Zoya's heartbeat is slowly stopping. At this point, we aren't even sure if she'll survive... but we'll do everything we can to bring her out of this danger."

Siddharth held his forehead and sat down on the floor.

"What kind of problem is this...? I feel like I've been trapped in a labyrinth."

After a while, he returned to Kuro's room.

Kuro looked at him.

"What happened?"

"Nothing... just a small problem."

But deep inside, Siddharth kept praying.

"Please... Zoya... recover soon."

A few moments later, Siddharth walked over to Zoya's fiancé.

He knelt before him and said,

"I'm sorry... the doctors don't think Zoya will survive."

Hearing those words, Zoya's fiancé collapsed onto the floor.

With folded hands, he pleaded,

"I'm begging you... please save her. I've been an orphan since childhood. Zoya is the only person who ever understood me. Please... save her. I can't lose her. I've already lost so much in my life. I don't want to lose her too. God... why are You doing this to me? Can't You see my pain? If she dies... I won't be able to live. I'll be dead even if I'm still breathing."

He burst into uncontrollable tears.

His cries echoed throughout the entire hospital.

Watching him, Siddharth completely broke down.

Gutaro had ruined everyone's lives.

Unable to bear it anymore, Siddharth walked into a corner and sat there silently.

Just then, Tamayo arrived, smoking a cigarette.

Siddharth looked at her.

"I've already lost so much... Tamayo, do you want me to lose you too? I've told you a thousand times not to smoke."

Overwhelmed by his emotions, he accidentally confessed his feelings.

Tamayo blinked in surprise.

"W-What did you just say?"

Still furious, Siddharth replied,

"You heard me. You haven't changed at all, Tamayo."

The next second, Tamayo hugged him tightly.

"Alright... calm down. I won't smoke anymore. Now tell me... what happened?"

Siddharth told her everything.

"Kuro has started recovering. The doctors said he'll be discharged tomorrow. Haiku is also much better now. He's finally able to walk. The only one left is Emma. Her injuries are so severe that it'll take more time for her to recover..."

His voice cracked.

"And... I don't know about Zoya."

Tamayo frowned.

"What do you mean you don't know?"

"The doctors said her heartbeat is gradually stopping. We'll only know after twenty-four hours whether she's out of danger or not... which means tomorrow."

Tamayo gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry."

Just then, Angel walked in holding a lighter.

Siddharth looked at her.

"Since when did you start smoking?"

Angel replied coldly,

"I'm not in the mood for jokes. And this lighter isn't for cigarettes."

At that moment, breaking news appeared on TV.

"Someone has set Gutaro Uzumaki's house on fire. According to reports, the fire started from his garden."

Tamayo and Siddharth both turned to look at Angel.

Angel said,

"He loved setting our lives on fire, didn't he? So... I set his house on fire."

Siddharth's eyes widened.

"You almost killed him!"

Angel shrugged.

"Relax. He survived. His house was completely empty at the time."

Siddharth let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank God... otherwise you'd have landed yourself in prison."

He looked at her and said,

"Did you inherit your sister's eyes or something? Was one disaster not enough? Now you're giving me another headache. Both sisters... and both are walking disasters."

Angel smirked.

"Calm down."

Siddharth asked,

"He doesn't know we did it... does he?"

"No," Angel replied. "If he had known, he would've been standing here by now."

Siddharth nodded.

"At least he has a brain."

"So... when's the fight?"

"I don't know."

"I'm asking about the fight, not the community feast."

"We'll see. There's still time. First, let Emma recover."

Siddharth sighed.

"My head is already hurting."

Suddenly, Monster's loud scream echoed through the hospital.

Angel immediately ran toward him.

"L-Lizard!"

Angel stared at him.

"You're scared of a lizard?"

She chased the lizard away.

Monster looked at her and asked,

"Angel... what do you even eat?"

"Anything."

"I know exactly what you eat."

"What?"

"You drink my blood."

Angel rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, and you also eat my brain."

Hearing their conversation, Obhi became visibly irritated.

The next second, Obhi noticed the lizard as well.

"AAAAAH!!"

He screamed just as loudly.

Angel was about to chase the lizard away again when Monster suddenly threw a knife toward it.

The lizard got frightened and ran away.

Angel folded her arms.

"Doesn't look like you're afraid of lizards anymore."

Monster replied proudly,

"Well... it doesn't look like you're scared either."

Obhi muttered,

"What kind of person is this...?"

Just then, Angel left because Tamayo had called her.

Monster quietly watched her leave.

"If you ever have a problem... tell me directly. Don't keep everything to yourself."

Obhi only answered with a quiet,

"Yeah..."

5 minutes later....

A young woman was practicing with a sniper rifle.

She sighed in frustration.

"Just because I haven't used it for five years doesn't mean I've forgotten how to shoot... Hitting the target is proving to be much harder than I expected."
