Chapter 1 - Fallen Apart

"Do you know why I called you here?" An elderly man who was seated asked a young boy.

"You didn't tell me anything so how would I know?" The boy asked him back.

The Dean sighed and shook his head before he went ahead to tell him why he sent for him.

"I am sorry to say this but the school can no longer take you, Alex," he announced.

Alex was quite taken aback by what the Dean said, though he didn't react outwardly to it, inwardly, he could not hide his surprise.

"I know I have failed Mr. Griffin, your father but I believe he'll understand me," the Dean added.

"Why?" Alex asked him, trying as much as he could to hide his disappointment.

"Two were killed in my school and they both had problems with you. I could overlook Mr. Johnson's death but Dante's is what I can't. That kid is from one of the big families in town and if I don't do something about it, not only me but the school will be implicated as well. Leave the school and find something else to do with your life," the Dean replied.

"Are you telling me to leave?" Alex asked him.

"Yes. I said leave! From now henceforth, this school has nothing to do with you. You are no longer a student of this school!" The Dean replied boldly and got up from his seat. "Please leave, leave my school!" He said to Alex while pointing at the door.

Alex stood up from the seat and stared straight into the man's eyes before asking him again.

"Wouldn't you at least find out the truth?"

"Your roommate also confirmed your absence at night. What truth is there to find out again?" The Dean asked him and it downed on Alex that Zeke also had a hand in this. He quietly gazed at the angry Dean for a while before he turned and left the office.

At the doorstep, he looked up and gazed at the sky, letting out a deep sigh — he couldn't believe that Zeke would after all have a hand in this. What he couldn't understand was the reason behind his action. The two of them never had any issues or whatever so why did he plot against him?

He had so many questions to ask the boy but there was no longer a chance to do it. It was his fault for not being up and doing or else he wouldn't have fallen victim — yes, he killed Dante but Zeke was also there for the same mission, what for?

"Sigh..." He moaned and began to walk toward the entrance of the school.

Getting to the gate, the gateman looked pitifully at him and shook his head as he opened up the gate for him to leave.

After he left, the gate was closed instantly and this left him standing outside of the walls of the school like a rejected orphan.

"Where do I go from here?" He asked himself with a frown etched on his face.

Shame he didn't know any place. The whole road, bushes, and all that were unfamiliar to him, making it very difficult for him to come out with a solution.

"Whatever... I'll go anywhere my mind and feet take me," he mumbled and began to walk.

Instead of falling the main route, he turned to the direction of the bushes and began to head there.

He hadn't forgotten what the Dean said so he believed that Dante's family would be on the search for him. Taking the main route will be like asking for an easier death sentence from them.

The bush was mostly covered with tall trees and mists which made it hard for him to walk in a straight line without getting hit by a tree or hitting his toe against a stone or boulder. Still, he kept on walking — to him, it was better than getting killed. Though he was already strong, he knew that there were those out there who were far stronger than him, as such, he wouldn't let himself be carried away.

Night came, so he had to stop by a cave, and after checking it out, he went in. Though hungry, he had to hold himself and sleep on the hard ground till the following morning.

And while he was asleep, he couldn't help but dream about his family, and his friends at Nightfall Academy, that was where he felt warm at heart though it never lasted for long. It was a long dream that made him sleep deep till the sun was up in the sky. He woke up and continued his journey again.

---------

After he had walked for a very long distance from the school, he came out from the bush and stood in an open space — It was a large area of field that was covered with short grasses, nothing could be hidden in that plain grass field and there was no place to hide even if one wanted to unless he turns back into the bush. But Alex turned around and to his shock, the bush was nowhere to be seen.

"What—" He stuttered. He was halfway through his shock when he suddenly began to hear sounds coming from up.

He raised his head and looked up, coming down to him was a group of people dressed in white robes with golden swords in their hands.

The one who seemed to the the leader was wearing a large cross around his neck that reached his belle.

"Is he the one with the demonic bloodline?" The leader asked.

"Yes, priest!" One of the members of the group replied.

"What are you waiting for? Begin with the ritual!" The leader then said and all the members of the group raised their swords in the air as they descended and glowing beams streamed out from the swords and made a circle with a drawing in the center of it. The golden circle was large, large enough to swallow a large area of land and it descended upon Alex who was still clueless as to what was happening.

Before he could realize what was going on, the pressure being emitted from the circle was pressing down on him like a weight. He tried to stand on his both legs but he couldn't and ended up falling on one knee and even at that, the pressure continued coming down at him.

"Wh-who are you?" He muttered.

"We are the church! We are here to carry out our obligation—" Not yet done speaking, the leader noticed the purple glow that was being emitted by Alex and pulled out his sword. "You are trying to use your bloodline powers, not going to let you succeed!" He said in an authoritative tone and raised his sword, making a vertical slash in the air.

A wave of force spurted out and danced its way to Alex and he was blown into the ground. Even with the force, the circle was still intact and was still coming down at him.

"Your existence is a curse to humanity or don't you know?" The leader asked as he stared into the hole in the ground. "Those around you will keep dying one after the other until no human is left. As a member of the church and a true follower of the deity, I will annihilate you and bring peace to humanity again. I will wipe away the curse your birth brought along with it!"

"Did you kill my uncle?" Alex asked as he climbed out of the hold with a cut on his face. The earlier slash in the air got to him and cut his face.

"I killed everyone associated with you," The leader replied.

When Alex heard 'everyone' he charged again because the 'everyone' means both the innocent servants working for Damon as well. What have they got to do with him that they must die for?

"You've got to be kidding me," he mumbled and opened his arms. Purple glows began to surround him, forming flames and turning him into a body of purple flames. "If I perish I perish, it got nothing to do with anybody!" He yelled and the flames suddenly burst out and scattered all over, even the golden circle was shattered into pieces and all the members of the group were blown away — only one remained standing in the air.

"Leader, is he trying to —?" That one person asked the leader who squinted his eyes upon realizing what Alex did.

"We still have to do the final blow," the leader said and drove his sword toward Alex who was kneeling unmoving on the ground. He raised his head slowly and watched as the sword made its way toward him.

He smiled weakly and just before the sword could get to him, it stopped midair and soon broke into pieces.

"The life is mine to take and no one's," he mumbled and fell to the ground.

"Leader, is he?" The one member remaining asked the leader.

"He is dead," the leader replied.

"But how?" The man asked him.

"He someone figures out that we weren't just after his life but the bloodline power so instead of letting us have it, he destroyed it. What he doesn't know is that destroying the powers will take his life," the leader explained as he gazed at Alex's lifeless body with a mix of anger and regret in his eyes.

"We didn't kill him, is that a failed mission?" The man asked him.

"Not until we don't return with his body. Now go and get him," the leader said to him.

The man nodded and floated down to carry Alex's body but as soon as he went to touch him, his body disappeared without a trace.
