Chapter 247 - Chapter 247: Maria’s Support!

Leo Lin's goal felt like a hammer blow that settled the tone of the match, leaving Portugal visibly shaken.

Hierro and Xavi applauded vigorously, urging the players on, while Portugal continued to threaten with counterattacks.

At this stage of the match, neither side wanted to concede a last-minute winner. That would be a devastating blow to morale.

86th minute.

"Cristiano Ronaldo."

"He turns and shoots!"

"De Gea makes the save and keeps it out!"

"A crucial stop. De Gea steps up when it matters!"

"His performance today has not been at his usual level. You could say he has only shown about half of what he is capable of, but hopefully this moment restores his confidence."

90th minute.

"David Silva drives forward. Moutinho tugs at him, but no foul is given."

"Silva keeps going. The Magician glides into the box with those silky touches!"

"He cuts inside, just at the edge of the area!"

"Plays it to Leo Lin!"

"Chance!"

"He strikes it first time!"

"José Fonte blocks it with his thigh. He is in real pain!"

"Patrício gathers the ball. Fonte is down, and his thigh has already gone red from the impact!"

"That hit was powerful. You can see on the replay his muscles are still shaking from it!"

José Fonte was ruled injured by the medical staff and had to come off. Santos brought on the young center back Rúben Dias. The match became increasingly stop-start after that, and neither side could find another goal.

The remaining minutes turned into a tense stalemate.

Full time.

The broadcast immediately cut to Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Lin, the two standout performers of the match.

In the broadcast studio.

"A match that will be remembered for years. Simply incredible."

"Both teams had their ups and downs, moments of struggle, but they maintained an extraordinary level right to the very end."

Gerrard shook his head in admiration, still absorbing the spectacle.

Casillas looked ahead to what it meant.

"After this remarkable 4-4 draw in the second round, both Portugal and Spain now sit on four points with one win and one draw, occupying the top two spots in the group."

"Portugal will face Iran in the final round. Iran lost 0-2 to Morocco earlier."

"That leaves Morocco with one win and one loss, on three points in third place. They will face Spain in the final match."

"If Morocco beat Spain, they move to six points and secure qualification. Spain could very well be eliminated."

"This group is unbelievably tight."

"With two teams on one win and one draw, one team on one win and one loss, and only Iran out of contention, three teams still have a real chance to qualify."

Morocco themselves had never expected to still be in the race, but now everything was in their hands.

A true 50-50 situation.

This Moroccan side was far from weak. The ESPN panel was divided on predictions, with Gullit believing Morocco could pull off something special.

"If you watched their first match, you would know this team is no pushover."

"If not for Quaresma's outside-of-the-foot finish, that game against Portugal could easily have ended 0-0."

"Quaresma has been outstanding in this World Cup. The perfect super sub. Two games in a row, he has delivered that signature outside-of-the-foot curler."

"With this draw, the group has become completely unpredictable. Total chaos."

"Anyone can go through except Iran."

"And for Morocco, if they do it, it will be another historic moment in their football history."

...

After the match, both teams returned to the locker room.

Hierro looked energized, clearly pleased despite the result.

"4-4. We take a point. Not the best outcome, but not the worst."

"We will give everything in the final group match."

"Forget the last two games. Get some rest. A new journey starts now."

At the post-match press conference, Leo Lin appeared alongside Hierro. He had been named Man of the Match.

The reporters focused on Spain's qualification situation, as elimination was still a real possibility.

"Leo, one win and one draw so far. You are unbeaten, but a loss to Morocco could send you out."

"What is your response?"

Leo Lin adjusted the microphone, his expression calm and confident.

"This is the World Cup. Anything can happen."

"But we are ready."

"We will qualify."

In football, opportunity is always shared.

After defeating Iran, Morocco believed. Their players wanted to make history, and their fans wanted to witness it.

The passion of North African football surged once again, sweeping across everything like a tidal wave.

You cannot generalize about Moroccan fans, but their intensity is undeniable.

For football, that passion can reach extremes, and with it comes a minority of extreme supporters.

In African football, incidents involving threats, hostility, and even violence have occurred before.

Now, with qualification on the line, some radical Moroccan fans stirred trouble again.

They held up hastily made banners mocking Leo Lin.

"An 18-year-old kid thinks he can shine at the World Cup. He will be going home early!"

"They do not belong in the knockout stage. We do!"

"A team that plays soft football does not deserve to advance. Look at Morocco. That is real football!"

"They call themselves the Matadors? I do not even know what Spain are playing. Maybe a lullaby."

Comments like these flooded social media. Some fans lashed out wildly at Spain, its players, and its style, all in the name of supporting their own team.

It quickly angered Spanish legends and fans alike.

Then, unexpectedly, Maria posted on social media, directly confronting those abusive voices.

[Look down on Lin?

Which player in Morocco has ever won four major titles?

Who among them has scored a hat-trick in a Champions League final?

If you want to mock Lin, make sure you are even qualified to do so.]
