Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 Jack is Defeated!!

The flaw of "BACK" was that it could only rewind one minute. The situation after DaQin Railway's rapid limit-up was something Johny Lee couldn't have predicted.

Half a minute passed, and DaQin Railway broke the limit-up wall again, surging high before falling back slightly, stabilizing at a price increase of +6.28%.

However, even so, Director Zane's excitement didn't diminish in the slightest.

To be honest, in the realm of stocks, it was the first time Zane had ever admired someone so much.

He estimated that with Johny's ability to observe ultra-short-term trends, no stock commentator or analyst on television could compare to the kid.

Who would dare boast in front of him about a stock being 100% certain to rise in the next moment?

Who would dare thump their chest and guarantee a stock was about to plunge drastically when there were no signs of a decline?

Only Johny dared! And he was right every time!

Zane looked at Johny beside him, finding him more and more pleasing to the eye. He finally had a capable person under him!

"Come, have some water."

Director Zane lowered himself to pour Johny a cup of water from the dispenser using a disposable paper cup, a gesture usually reserved for honored guests.

Johny stood up, holding out his hands in trepidation. "Please, please don't! Thank you, Director. I'll do it myself! I'll do it myself!"

Zane smiled kindly and patted his shoulder, telling him to sit down. "From now on, you don't have to be so polite with me. From the first day you entered the office, I knew you weren't an ordinary person, haha. See? I guessed right, didn't I? Your method of analyzing short-term trends is something ordinary people can't compare to!"

"You're too kind."

The more Johny heard this, the more he felt it was hypocritical.

The first time we met, you gave me the cold shoulder just for calling you 'Deputy Director.' And there was that incident where I didn't sit correctly on the sofa. If it weren't for 'BACK' saving my skin, you probably wouldn't be giving me a friendly look even now.

Heh. You felt I wasn't ordinary from the first day? You're spouting nonsense! I'd be a fool to believe you!

Look, this is how it is in government offices. The waters are deep, and so are the people.

Water personally poured by the leader must be drunk completely. Johny drained the cup.

"Director Zane, shall I go out and work now?"

Zane nodded. "If you have any difficulties in the future, tell me immediately. Go busy yourself."

Walking out into the large office, the eyes of Tammy, Jane, and the others all turned toward him.

Swish, swish, swish...

Johny suddenly remembered the unresolved conflict with Jack, and anger surged up again. Seeing that the guy hadn't returned from delivering documents yet, Johny casually sat back in his chair and went about his business.

Anyway, we've already fallen out. Let it be whatever it will be!

Samson (Moose) seemed to want to say something but ultimately stayed silent, looking worried.

Suddenly, the door opened, and Jack strolled in.

The atmosphere in the General Office immediately became tense. Johny didn't even look up; he kept typing away on his keyboard, drafting documents.

When Jack saw that the water dispenser's bottle was still empty, he felt his authority had been severely challenged. His face instantly changed color.

He walked over, pointed a finger at Johny's nose, and said fiercely, "Good! Good kid! Can't even get you to move a bottle of water! Do you really think you're someone important now?"

Johny met his gaze coldly. "It's not me... it's you who thinks you're someone important!"

Jack's eyes sank. He grabbed Johny's collar.

"Kid! I'm giving you one last chance! Go get a bottle of water right now! Did you hear me?"

Jack thought Director Zane hadn't arrived at the office yet, so he didn't bother controlling the volume of his voice.

Old Quinn shouted loudly, "Jack, that's going too far!"

Tammy glanced meaningfully at Director Zane's closed office door and spoke even louder than Old Quinn. "Don't start a fight! Talk things out properly!"

Jane and Paul didn't warn Jack that the Director was in. They stood by and watched the show, eager to see Jack stumble.

"Talk properly? I already talked properly with him a long time ago!" Jack suppressed his anger, tightening his grip. "But he doesn't put the veterans of the General Office in his eyes at all!"

Johny knew that the reason Tammy and Old Quinn were shouting so loudly was to alert Director Zane and get him to come out. This could save him.

Thinking of this, Johny suddenly had an idea. He blinked his eyes, and his tone softened dramatically.

"I had something to do just now. I didn't get to it."

Seeing him "soften," Jack's arrogance grew even more. "Something to do? What was it?"

Johny deliberately didn't mention that Director Zane had called for him. He set a verbal trap. "Something quite important."

"Important?" Jack squeezed his collar tighter, shaking him slightly. "What could be more important than drinking water? Huh? I came back after finishing my business and can't even get a sip of hot water! You actually have the nerve to do other things? Whatever it is, you have to drop it!"

Creak....

The door to the private office opened.

"...Director Zane!"

"Director Zane!"

"Uh, you're here?" Jack wasn't too nervous. He slowly released Johny's collar and played the victim first. "Director Zane, little Johny here is really—"

Zane's face was like thunder. He stared into Jack's eyes and interrupted him.

"I was the one who called Johny over just now to work on something! Were you saying that to me?"

Jack was dumbfounded. "Ah? I... I didn't know... I didn't..."

Zane snapped. "I'd like to hear it! Is your business important or is mine important? Huh? Is your thirst urgent or is my work urgent? Huh? What's the meaning of this? Johny has to get you water first before he can work for me? Are you the Director or am I the Director?"

Jack knew he had said the wrong thing. He stammered, "I... I didn't mean that..."

"Shouting during work hours! And grabbing a colleague's collar? Are you trying to hit someone? Huh? What do you think this place is? Do you still put your leader in your eyes?"

Zane's face was stern, and his subsequent words were clearly biased. "Couldn't you just ask Old Wang to get the water?! Why are you fixated on Johny? Did he provoke you or something? Huh?"

Jack lost face completely. His face flushed beet red. "No... no... I'll call Old Wang right now."

He dialed the number. But unfortunately, no one answered. "...Old Wang isn't there."

Zane ripped into him again. "If he's not in the office, does that mean the people in the office don't drink water!?"

Jack had absolutely not expected that one slip of the tongue would provoke such anger from Zane. He regretted it so much his insides turned green.

He said dejectedly, "I'll go get the water. I'll go."

Paul looked at Johny with slight surprise, astonished that Director Zane would stand up for the rookie so aggressively. It seemed he couldn't just order the guy around casually in the future.

Johny, having gained the upper hand, acted humble. "Director Zane, I also have responsibility in this matter. I should have changed the water first."

Zane waved his hand dismissively. "For heavy work like that, call Old Wang next time."

Zane felt that Jack had been getting increasingly arrogant lately, relying on his father's connection to the Commissioner. He took this opportunity to deliberately give Jack a warning. Otherwise, if this continued, Jack wouldn't even respect the Director anymore.

It was true that Zane had always been polite to Jack, but that was out of respect for the Commissioner, not fear of Jack. Zane had never heard of a leader being afraid of a subordinate. Even if the Commissioner was Jack's biological father, in the small domain of the General Office, Jack still had to listen to Zane.

Before long, Jack returned, struggling to carry a heavy 5-gallon water bottle.

He panted as he heaved it onto the dispenser. He probably rarely did physical labor; it took him a long time to seat the bottle, and he accidentally splashed water all over his expensive shirt.

Both his expression and his clothes were a wet mess.

Looking at Jack's dejected appearance, Johny felt incredibly satisfied. It was indescribable!

Weren't you being arrogant? Didn't you like to boss others around? Now you've tasted what it's like to be bossed around, haven't you?

Old Quinn and Jane secretly smiled, gloating at Jack's misfortune.

Tammy quietly gave Johny a thumbs-up under the table, showing her admiration.

Many people in the General Office had experienced Jack's overbearing behavior, so seeing him put in his place made everyone's day. They also re-evaluated Johny's influence.

It seems Director Zane is quite fond of the kid lately!
