Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 — A Vanishing Trace

Information arrived three days later because of coming from foreign country.

Elena stood at Cassian Drakov's desk, tablet in hand, posture straight yet wary. She had learned to recognize the difference between her master's calm and the silence before destruction. Today felt like the latter.

"We traced the omega through Kane Arlov's university but it was truly difficult to get it was in confidential folders," she reported. "Enrollment records. Housing information. Emergency contact."

Cassian's fingers paused mid-motion over a document.

"And?" he asked.

"Elijah— no, Evan," Elena corrected herself, "was listed as a final-year student. Arts faculty. Exchange program. Graduated last semester."

Cassian leaned back slowly in his chair.

"Address?"

Elena recited it. Cassian memorized it instantly.

"Car," he said.

The vehicle cut through the city like a blade. The address was to another city.Cassian sat in the back seat, coat immaculate, expression carved from stone. Outside the tinted windows, the skyline shifted from glass towers to older streets — quieter, narrower, humbler. Elena sat across from him, eyes flicking to her tablet again and again. It took 3 hours to went there. Ride was smooth.

Something was wrong. The confidential folders will not be for a normal student right.

The address led them to a residential district untouched by wealth. Old buildings. Weathered paint. Fading numbers above doors. Children's bicycles leaned against walls. The kind of place that survived, not thrived.

The car stopped.

"This is it," Elena said carefully.

Cassian stepped out first.

The street went unnaturally quiet.

People noticed him immediately — not because they knew his name, but because power announced itself without words. Conversations faltered. Doors half-closed. Curious eyes peered from behind curtains.

Cassian approached the building.

Number matched.

He knocked.

An elderly omega woman opened the door slowly, confusion etched deep into her face.

"Yes?" she asked gently.

Cassian looked down at her.

"Evan," he said. "Where is he?"

Her brows furrowed. "Evan…? I'm sorry, sir, there's no one here by that name."

Elena stepped forward smoothly. "Apologies for the disturbance, ma'am. According to our records, a student resided here."

The woman shook her head. "My husband and I have lived here for forty years. No student. No young omega."

A man appeared behind her, leaning on a cane. "What's going on?"

Cassian's jaw tightened.

"This address is false," Elena realized instantly.

Cassian stepped back.

The air around him changed.

Even without sensing pheromones, the people nearby felt it — pressure, sharp and suffocating. The old man's hand tightened on his cane. The woman clutched the doorframe.

Cassian's alpha presence surged.

Fear spread like a ripple.

A child began to cry somewhere down the street.

Elena reacted immediately. First she said to " sir please control" then to the couple.

"I'm sorry to trouble you," she said quickly, bowing her head. "We have the wrong information. Please forgive the intrusion."

She placed herself subtly between Cassian and the residents, blocking the worst of his presence.

"We'll leave now."

The woman nodded nervously. "It's… alright."

Cassian turned without another word and walked back to the car.

The door shut.

The engine started.

Silence.

Then—

Cassian's fist slammed sideways into the leather seat.

The sound was sharp, violent.

The reinforced door dented inward.

Elena did not flinch, but her grip tightened on the tablet.

"A fake record," Cassian said coldly. "A false trail. Even the university files were altered."

"Yes," Elena replied. "It is done carefully. Professionally but why for a normal student ."

Cassian leaned forward, elbows on his knees, hands clasped. " What if he isn't a normal student"

Elena realised this possibility " yes, eldon arlov said he was here for sight seeing we thought it was that he in not from our city but he's a foreigner"

A slow smile touched his lips — not amused.

Interested.

"Let's see," he murmured, "how much longer you can escape from me."

Night fell.

Cassian returned home restless, irritated, and sharper than ever. He worked late again — numbers, acquisitions, pressure points — but none of it settled him.

Because beneath everything, a single image burned.

Blonde hair pulled back.

A slim figure standing unafraid amid collapsing bodies.

And eyes—

Sky-colored eyes.

That night, sleep took him unwillingly.

And once again, the dream returned.

He stood in a vast, empty hall. White light flooded the space, endless and quiet. At the center stood the omega.

Evan.

He turned slowly, expression calm, almost curious.

Those eyes met Cassian's.

They were not afraid.

They were precious — clearer than gemstones, brighter than wealth, sharper than power.

Cassian reached out—

And Evan smiled faintly.

Not inviting.

Not rejecting.

Just… knowing.

Cassian woke abruptly.

His heart beat once. Strong. Controlled.

He stared at the ceiling in the darkness.

"No matter how well you hide darling," he whispered to the empty room, "I will find you for sure."

And somewhere in the city, far beyond records and names, the blonde omega remained just out of reach.

For now.

Kane sat on his bed talking to someone " yo what's up how you doing "lazy voice of a boy came " watching phone right now what about you" kane leaned back " I'm in detention because of you " boy was in puzzled state " huh? The hell are you talking about" kane replied " remember the person you attacked in the banquet and then insulted him, he.. boy intrupped him " it was saving and little bit of teasing" kane nonchalantly said "yes yes saving and teasing whatever he called my father to his office asked about you and got me in detention punishment so I think you should be aware what you've touched is a volcano" boy said " don't worry he can't find me ,my traces are always fake you know even if he's listening this conversation he can't find me"

A chuckle came from nowhere kane abrupted stood. Another voice came from the call " you are well aware about the circumstances little boy" cassian spoke. Kane froze then instantly tried to cut the phone but his friend spoke " don't cut the call kane and you Mr old man even if trace this phone i can't be locate that's the place I belong from. Kane even don't know who I am so stop that nonsense and leave my friend alone. Cassian clutched his phone hard but didn't broke. Elena was listening with him she thought ' this boy got guts'.

The boy's voice came " if you are thinking it was insult to you I sincerely apologise, let's not make it difficult for both of us". Cassian spoke " sincerity is about asking forgiveness face to face. Boy spoke " sir you are making this difficult don't forget I saved you from losing control make it as compensation".

Cassian spoke " so what if I find you then"

Boy said " you can't your and my worlds are different it was just a little encounter think of it is a prank from younger generation I'm sorry I was in playful mood and didn't consider your feelings there. But this is a good bye for you Mr and for you too kane" kane was baffled " huh what are you saying ". Call was ended there.
