Nina was still trying to take everything in when someone familiar caught her eye.
At first, she wasn't sure.
There were too many people gathered along the road, too many unfamiliar faces moving between the buildings. Her attention had been divided between the strange village and the survivors around her.
Then she saw the woman standing a short distance away.
Nina stopped…. Her heart seemed to skip.
She stared at the woman for several seconds, almost afraid that if she blinked, the figure would disappear.
Could it really be?.
The woman turned slightly, revealing her face more clearly.
Nina's breath caught. "Mrs. Hale?"
The woman froze. Slowly, she turned toward Nina.
Their eyes met. For a moment, neither of them moved.
Then Veronica's eyes widened. "Nina?"
Nina didn't realize she had started walking until she was already moving toward her.
Veronica did the same. "Nina!"
They met halfway.
