Ritsuka still had some conscience. Next time she went to the Butterfly Mansion, didn't forget to buy some high-class candy to give Kanao as an apology.
The people working at the Butterfly Mansion were all girls. After Ritsuka went twice... she really loved running over there, would go wander around from time to time.
Wandering around, she encountered new Corps members again. One left a particularly deep impression on her.
They were two Corps members operating as a team, both had scars. The one who caught her attention had especially many injuries.
Ritsuka said that person not only had two scars crossing most of his face, but his exposed chest and arms also had wounds of varying sizes.
Moreover, his eyes were fierce and frightening. Aside from his companion, Corps members were unwilling to talk much with him.
However, he was very polite to women, his words had no discourtesy. But those scars covering his body still made the girls very timid.
The first time he came, the girls working as nurses all didn't dare approach. The Kocho sisters happened to be away. Ritsuka simply volunteered herself.
I thought to myself—with her amateur bandaging skills, how did she have the nerve to actively do this? Could wrap people into dumplings even for minor scrapes.
Ritsuka thought I was discriminating. Protested very dissatisfied, saying after she wrapped both his arms, he had no complaints whatsoever, even politely thanked her.
Well, she wasted so much of the Butterfly Mansion's bandages. In the end paid for new ones herself to make up for it. Kanae also told me.
What I didn't expect was that I'd actually have the fate to meet this scar-covered swordsman she mentioned. Perhaps should call it ill fate?
As usual, it was the biannual Hashira meeting. Heard there was a new Hashira born, still the new successor of Wind Breathing. Naturally I had to come meet him.
Just so happened Amane was in the kitchen preparing new sweets for the guests. Because I kept staring at her beside her refusing to leave, she filled a plate with newly made sweets for me, told me to take them and eat first.
I happily carried the sweets out. In the corridor, from afar I saw the new Wind Hashira.
His features were too easy to recognize. The scars covering his body—recognized at a glance as the Corps member Ritsuka mentioned.
His name seemed to be... called Shinazugawa?
But his expression was full of gloom, atmospheric pressure around him extremely low. Looked like he was in a very bad mood. Made me somewhat hesitant whether to greet him.
Suddenly a trace of eerie wind sound arose. My hair stood on end. Instinctively retreated several steps. Still couldn't move faster than that gust of wind.
Blade rose, blood splattered. My left hand was severed by him. In a blink regenerated again.
Shinazugawa gripped his still-dripping blade. His scar-covered face showed a cold smile: "Ha! Actually infiltrated here. You demon have some skill!"
Before I could open my mouth to explain, his second blade chopped over again.
The corridor space was narrow. Outside was the blazing sun. The other side was rooms.
This was Kagaya's home. Every blade of grass and tree, I didn't want to damage. Could only carefully dodge as much as possible.
Finding an opening in his techniques, I pressed forward again, struck his abdomen with a fist. Planned to make this kid who attacked without warning stop first.
My force was enough to make an adult male lose resistance... but he didn't waver. Even the blade in his hand didn't shake.
Taking this opportunity, he instead firmly locked my hand. The blade in his right hand slashed horizontally, preparing to chop toward my neck.
CLANG—
Again the clear sound of blade collision. Tengen with ghostly speed suddenly intervened between us. The weapon in his hand steadily clamped his blade. His tone quite stern: "Hey hey, do you know what you're doing, you newbie brat?"
While speaking, his other hand reached over to grab Shinazugawa's arm. Used even greater brute force to remove his strength. Had to release me.
I retreated several steps in time. Kanae was right behind me. Quickly supported me and retreated further.
Her gaze swept over my body, fell on the bloodstains on my clothes and severed sleeve. Her tone contained disbelief and anger: "Shinazugawa-san, you attacked Miss Chihaya?"
I turned my head to look. All the Pillars had rushed over hearing the battle sounds. The latest to arrive was Kagaya.
But he urgently squeezed through, reached out to shield me behind him: "Sanemi, I think you must have misunderstood something. I haven't had time to explain the situation to you yet. Could you listen to me first?"
Shinazugawa was held down at the shoulder by Tengen, couldn't move anymore. Looked at the circle of people before him. Actually seemed to laugh in anger.
"I'm not mistaken, right? The Demon Slayer Corps' most formidable group, plus the legendary Master—actually all consorting with demons. Are you worthy of the Corps members risking their lives outside?"
CRACK!
I was startled. Turned my head to see—turned out Gyomei's prayer beads had split with several cracks. Several veins popped on his usually calm face. His tone also changed: "Shinazugawa, watch your words. You hold too much prejudice toward the Master and Lady Chihaya."
Giyu silently walked forward. With Tengen, one left one right, blocked in front of Shinazugawa. Prevented him from launching another surprise attack.
Kagaya's tone remained gentle and peaceful: "You've misunderstood, Sanemi. Today is your first time attending a Hashira meeting. Originally I planned to introduce Lady Chihaya's matter to you. Hope you can sit down and listen to me finish first, then decide what to do."
With so many Pillars blocking, Shinazugawa wanting to rush over and cut me wouldn't work. Wanting to turn and leave, he was unwilling.
In the end could only be watched by Tengen and Giyu, walk into the room together, wait for the meeting later.
Gyomei came over to inquire about my injuries. I waved my regenerated hand indicating this was all minor. Just seeing this Wind Hashira's attitude toward Kagaya was very bad. Troubled him to protect Kagaya more during the meeting.
Speaking of the only loss I felt heartache over—the sweets Amane made!
I'd only eaten one piece! All fell on the ground!
Kagaya laughed lightly. Entrusted Kanae to accompany me to find Amane, change clothes then go eat sweets.
Kanae agreed as instructed. She seemed very angry. Felt Shinazugawa's behavior was too discourteous... and accused that every Hashira meeting me for the first time actually maintained vigilance and wariness.
But no one would make such discourteous actions. Who draws their blade in the Master's residence, moreover attacking someone just met?
Amane took a new kimono for me to change into. Beside her listening to Kanae angrily criticize. After a while she said:
"Shinazugawa's close friend passed away from severe injuries in this mission slaying a Lower Rank. Presumably his mood isn't pleasant."
Kanae quieted for a moment. I also remembered the other swordsman Ritsuka wrote about having a good relationship with him.
Amane walked over, helped me arrange my collar and sash, also prepared warm water to help me wash my face. Suddenly said: "But while Kagaya-sama can sympathize with his feelings, he cannot forgive such conduct."
I was stunned. Couldn't help waving my hands: "Forget it. He's still young. Acting impulsively for a moment is also very normal."
Speaking of which, it wasn't any serious injury. In the past there were also many swordsmen who didn't know my identity who'd shout to attack and kill me.
If I fussed over all of them, when would the fussing end?
