Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: The Eternal Paradise Cult

The first time I transformed someone into a demon, I had no experience.

Don't know which step wasn't quite right. When Koyuki woke again, she'd forgotten what happened before.

Fortunately, after several years, as she gradually mastered this new body, past memories also gradually returned.

By the time she realized what price Hakuji paid, everything had already become settled.

The day memories recovered, Koyuki cried for a long time. I also sat quietly beside her. Waited for her to scold me for taking advantage of others' peril. Using her to force Hakuji.

But after crying, she only turned to ask me, "How is Hakuji now?"

I also hadn't seen him for some time. Now, he'd probably already infiltrated the Twelve Kizuki Muzan newly assembled.

Keizo survived. I publicly announced Koyuki's death.

The people from the neighboring kenjutsu school also didn't meet good ends.

When I told Hakuji—to create murders to draw Muzan over—he chose without hesitation to massacre these people.

If I hadn't invited Tamayo. If Tamayo hadn't come that day. If we'd been a step late. Without these coincidences stringing together miracles, neither Keizo nor Koyuki could have survived.

Hakuji hated them to the bone. Without half a moment's hesitation, struck them down ruthlessly. Overnight became the city's terrifying killing demon.

I brought Koyuki and left Raiwan early. He wandered the streets every night.

After a month passed, Hakuji—completely transformed in appearance—came to report to me one night.

I gave him the blood I'd prepared. He drank it all in one gulp. The constantly suppressed bloodthirsty desire finally eased somewhat.

Seems Muzan's expectations for him weren't small. Actually gave him so much blood.

But Hakuji's willpower was more terrifying than I thought. He actually endured through the stage after becoming a demon when craving flesh and blood most. Relying on his obsession with Koyuki, found opportunity to see me.

However, Koyuki didn't remember him. Just treated him as someone I knew. Ran over curiously to observe. "Lord Chihaya, who is this brother?"

He said dully, "Now I'm called Akaza."

Far less pleasant than Hakuji. But he insisted I call him this. I still followed his wishes and changed how I addressed him.

I didn't avoid Koyuki. Continued asking about his current physical state.

Akaza possessed Blood Demon Art. Affected by my blood, he now probably also didn't need to eat people.

I tried having Koyuki bring out food for him. He also normally ate it.

And I could also feel Muzan's blood existing in his body.

I had to carefully suppress this blood. Also couldn't completely devour it and let Muzan discover abnormalities. Also had to block its influence on Akaza.

Because doing these things was extremely laborious and taxing, besides Akaza, I couldn't create a second mole to send beside Muzan.

Akaza said, "Please don't worry. Muzan desires to create twelve powerful demons. I will definitely do my utmost to climb to the peak among these demons."

He was respectful and deferential toward me. Completely lacked that former sense of closeness.

After Koyuki recovered her memories, after I brought her to visit Keizo, I no longer kept her beside me.

Keizo had already moved somewhere else to live. Koyuki staying beside him was also no problem. If Akaza had time, he could go visit them.

And I needn't appear before them anymore. Make them recall unpleasant matters.

Clearly only stayed in Raiwan for several years. After leaving there, somehow I felt somewhat melancholy. Always absent-mindedly recalled those days.

Perhaps I'd been too long without human contact. Every day in Raiwan, girls coming to work greeted me. When they rested, also loved gathering around me, talking and laughing.

Also, Keizo always brought Koyuki and Hakuji to visit. Even stayed for meals. Like a neighbor living next door, so warm.

Such normal life—originally shouldn't belong to a demon like me.

I listlessly wandered around. If encountered demons, beat them to pulp. If ran into Pillars, stopped to chat with them.

Every year, returned to the Ubuyashiki estate to sit. Days again rolled forward like flowing water.

As for when I regained spirit, started seriously living life—

I really don't want to recall.

Because it was a scent belonging to demons. Especially foul and stinking.

What year, what month—I can't remember clearly. Probably I didn't go home at nightfall. Wandered the roadside. Was misunderstood by passersby.

Walking along, I was blocked by a man.

"Miss, seeing your troubled expression, you must have some worries, right?"

I glanced at him. Actually didn't really want to engage him.

But I didn't speak. He kept talking endlessly. First speculated that I wandered the streets after nightfall. Must be unable to return home. Had some troubles entangling me.

Speaking and speaking, he mysteriously pulled out a booklet from his chest. Introduced to me, "If you have troubles and don't know what to do, why not come see our Eternal Paradise Cult? Our leader is the child of God."

I stared straight at him. Considered whether to beat him up or throw him directly into the authorities.

Finally, I showed great mercy. Decided to still follow him. Directly go beat up their leader.

After all, this fool's brain was ruined by his leader. Wrongs have perpetrators, debts have debtors. I couldn't bully a fool.

I followed him into a very magnificent mansion. Inside, quite a few people. Each person wore expressions that could smile contentedly in death, walking around.

This cultist handed me to a woman. Then left. Probably rushing to deceive the next cultist.

The woman was initially quite gentle. Told me to follow her. I asked, going to see the leader?

She said, "The leader is busy with affairs. Temporarily has no free time. But don't fear. Cultists are all brothers and sisters. Will help you solve troubles."

I stood still. Opened my mouth saying I wanted to see the leader. I came to see the leader. If you don't let me see him, you're deceiving me. I'll immediately report to authorities to arrest you.

This woman finally grew impatient. The gentle disguise on her face came off. From a nearby bottle, pulled out a feather duster. Face gloomy.

"Seems I must first teach you rules."

Teaching rules? I'm familiar with this.

I snatched the feather duster. Whipped it on her hand.

"I want to see the leader. Heard me?"

"Didn't hear? I'll say it again."

"What are you yelling about? Are you deliberately not listening to me?"

"Does everyone coming here need to learn rules? Is this how you learn? I'm asking you."

I circled around her. Every sentence, whipped her once with the duster. First hit the back of her hand. Then hit her arm. Then whipped her back. Finally hit her calves.

Initially, she was still furious. Tried to snatch the duster back. After I whipped her for one round, she collapsed powerlessly on the ground. Softly sobbed.

Outside the room, other cultists peeked.

After she submitted, I also stopped beating her. Duster held in hand, waved once toward the doorway. Those heads immediately shrank back.

Soon, a man hurriedly ran over. Smiled apologetically at me, "This miss, the leader says he wants to see you."
