"Someone opened the files."
Elena Kovac did not answer at once. She stood beside the security console with one hand resting against its cold metal edge, her eyes fixed upon the screen where the access records continued to scroll beneath the dim blue light, and although her face remained composed, Luca Bianchi noticed the slight tightening of her fingers that betrayed the uneasiness she would never willingly name.
"Who had access?" Luca asked, lowering his voice as he moved closer, his gaze travelling from the screen to the locked archive door behind them. "Tell me exactly who could enter that system, Elena, and do not soften the answer because you think I will dislike it."
She finally looked at him, and something in her expression made his stomach tighten before she even spoke.
"Everyone."
