Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: A Hero?

[Battlefield]

As the goblins closed in on the players, panic rose in everyone's chest.

Some turned and ran.

"RUN!"

People scattered.

Others collapsed where they stood—

Sobbing

"Somebody help…"

No one came.

In the middle of the chaos, a person stood, uncertain.

Blond hair.

Brown eyes.

His body trembled.

His mind screamed at him to run.

His legs refused.

Afraid…

A goblin rushed at a girl.

Frozen.

Just like he was.

Time slowed.

His chest tightened.

"If I don't—"

His foot stepped forward.

The system didn't stall.

It responded immediately.

His eyes widened.

"What?"

The goblin was closing in.

Mere seconds to spare.

He moved instinctively.

SWISH

The blade cut clean.

The goblin hit the ground.

His grip trembled.

Shocked...

The saved girl started to speak.

"Is that you…"

"…Noah?"

As the chaos unravels, familiar voices are discussing in a higher realm.

Choosing their next contractor.

[The Void]

A figure stood in silence.

Black hair.

Blank eyes.

Clothed in Egyptian-inspired attire.

A faint blue aura surrounded it.

"You know… the current batch isn't bad."

It watched the battlefield below.

"We even got a maniac… and a few with potential."

Another presence appeared beside him, its form unclear, unstable.

I'm curious, the second voice said.

"You carry the title of destruction… yet you show little interest."

The God of Destruction let out a quiet breath.

Destruction isn't just chaos—it serves a purpose.

A blade must fall so something else can grow.

Space has to be made… for things to change.

A pause...

Then he added—

…But let's not get too serious.

His gaze shifted.

"What about you, God of Observation?"

The other figure hummed softly.

His eyes focused on one person.

That player—Noah.

He's quick to adapt.

A faint system window appeared.

The God of Observation smiled slightly.

Him...

While the gods were discussing,

Blood soaked the ground.

Lives perishing.

[Battlefield]

And at the center—

Vos stood.

Unmoving.

Unshaken.

Unstoppable.

Another goblin rushed him—

SHHK!

Its head separated cleanly.

Another—

THUD.

Collapsed before reaching him.

More came.

More fell.

Yet—

Nothing.

No message.

No reward.

Vos frowned.

Damn it…

His grip tightened around the dagger.

Why am I not leveling up?

Another wave charged.

He cut through them—faster. Sharper. Cleaner.

Still nothing.

…So killing isn't enough?

He opened his stat menu.

Glitching… unstable.

Isn't there like an exp bar?

Standing still, frowning.

Goblins seem to be avoiding him.

Afraid…

He closes the menu, disappointed.

Then—

A scream.

Close.

He turns and sees a group surrounded.

One of the members is about to get struck down.

At that moment.

He moves.

Faster than ever.

Blocking the strike and saving the person.

"You alright?"

The saved person starts to speak, trembling.

"Yes… I'm fine—"

Momentarily, Vos let his guard down.

A goblin from far away threw its spear.

Penetrating his side of the body.

"…Heh."

A quiet laugh escaped him.

That's new.

Air slammed into his lungs.

Pain followed.

Immediate.

Crushing.

Lux gasped for air.

His hand pressed against his side—

Wet.

Too much blood.

"…Why does it hurt this bad…?"

A girl started to speak.

"Hey! Stay with me!"

The girl grabbed him.

Lux looked up, dazed.

"Who are you?"

The girl froze.

"…Your hair…"

Silver.

Slowly fainting back to black.

…What?

No time.

Goblins closed in again.

Lux's eyes widened.

"…Hero?"

You've got to be kidding me.

The voice returned—

faint.

breaking.

…Don't die.

"…Shut up."

The girl pulled him up.

You can fight, right?

Lux looked ahead.

At the blood.

At the bodies.

His legs trembled.

"…Ah…"
