Silas returned to his room in the pokemon center. He now had a Froakie! Despite the F talent situation, he immediately felt drawn to frog pokemon.
First he took Froakie out of its pokeball. It was deathly skinny and its signature frubbles were so few in number.
Silas opened his system shop looking for potential cures. This time however there were new options.
Shop List

All low grade berries - 2 BP - Various effects.
He purchased a low grade lum berry which had a minor effect. After feeding it to him, Froakie didn't even react.
Silasa decided to spend big and go for the Revival Herb. After consuming it, Froakie made a disgusted face but still managed to swallow the medicine.
He immediately improved and became much livelier. Silas was overjoyed but he noticed that while Froakie had improved, he was not saved.
So he scanned Froakie to see if he could get any additional information.
Froakie — Level 7
Ability: Protean
Potential: D- (Damaged Foundation)
Moves: Toxic Spikes, Water Pulse, Growl, Pound
Thankfully Froakie's Potential improved which showed that the herb had some effect. Otherwise the loss of that many points for nothing would make Silas weep with regret.
Froakie looked thankfully at its new trainer. Although just barely past its infant stage, Froakie was aware of its condition. So it appreciated Silas for trying to help it.
Silas introduced Froakie to the rest of the team. The pokemon got along easily so Silas finally had the time to review the breeder book he purchased from the underground stall.
The pokemon spent the night playing in the room while Silas read through the book, took notes, and then reviewed them after taking a short break.
Silas had learned a lot and wanted to put it into practice. However he held back as he wanted to take the time to master his new craft. Being a quality breeder could open many doors.
The next morning, Silas stocked up on pokeballs and great balls before heading out to route 22, west of Viridian.
This route is historic because it is the final path walked by trainers who intend to challenge Indigo Plateau's Pokemon League.
However before entering League territory, the area is the perfect training ground for young trainers. Mankey, Machop, and Spearow were abundant here. Their evolved forms would occasionally appear if someone managed to offend an entire tribe.
Other than after being provoked, the evolved pokemon never took action against trainers. Over time, they had learned that should they harm enough trainers, much more powerful ones would appear to deal with them.
So in the interest of self preservation, Primeape, a pokemon known for its inexplicably constant rage learned how to exercise restraint.
Silas chose to train here as the high concentration of fighting type pokemon would allow his pokemon to develop better close combat instincts.
Unfortunately for SIlas, they were destined to not encounter any high potential Mankeys or Machop. The highest quality was D+.
Technically this was not a bad grade but Silas simply had higher standards. The majority of trainers will never have access to a B quality or better pokemon.
F potential makes up roughly 30% of pokemon. D potential is another 30%. C potential is 20%. B potential is 10%. A potential is 6.5%. S potential is 3%. SS potential is 0.5%.
Silas knew this but he did not care. He had 2 B quality pokemon, why should he settle for anything less?
The route 22 training session only lasted a few days before Silas wanted a change of environment.
His pokemon had improved a little but he could tell the experience gained from battling here was minimal. He wanted a new challenge.
It also needed to be an area that was home to rarer pokemon so Odin could make an appearance.
He decided to move on to Pewter City with the intention of climbing Mount Moon.
Walking the familiar of Viridian Forest, Silas advanced quickly.
"Hey you, You wanna battle?"
Silas heard a feminine voice nearby but didn't see anyone.
"Up here in the trees."
He looked up to see a woman sitting on a branch.
"If we battle, we have to wager something, how about 3k pokedollars?"
Silas could tell this woman was truly middle class so he presented an acceptable number so of course she agreed to his terms.
"Go Ariados!"
A giant spider pokemon materialized in front of Silas. He called for Elekid. Silas scanned Ariados.
Ariados — Level 26
Ability: Sniper
Potential: B-
Moves: C rank Swords Dance C rank Shadow Sneak B rank String Shot, C rank Poison Sting, C Rank Megahorn
"Elekid, this is a serious battle, don't hold back."
As of late, Elekid had become a battle degenerate. He loved fighting and would hold back sometimes to prolong the fight.
This Ariados had high potential and egg moves like Megahorn and Swords Dance. This would be the toughest battle in a while.
Silas took Froakie out and let it stand next to him to watch the battle.
"This battle will be straight up 1v1, any issues?"
"No, that's perfect. Ladies first. " Silas acted provocatively to infuriate the girl into making mistakes during the match.
Sure enough her anger led her to attack first but she was not reckless.
"Ariados power up with Swords Dance."
It's numerous legs began to stomp into the ground in a strange rhythmic way and it began to glow a light blue light.
"Elekid use your Thunder Shock."
Elekid generated a stream of electricity that rushed towards Ariados. While in pain, Ariados still managed to finish executing Swords Dance.
Silas had a grave expression on his face.
"Charge in with Brick Break."
Elekids arm glowed as it struck fiercely at Ariados.
"Use Shadow Sneak to dodge, then Megahorn."
As Elekid approached Ariados, it slipped into its shadow to dodge, then moments later resurfaced, delivering a deadly blow with Megahorn.
Elekid was clearly shaken and struggling to stay on its feet.
This was the sniper ability at work. Megahorn was already the strongest bug type move. A sniper boosted critical hit from an Ariados that had doubled its attack was truly powerful.
Silas was impressed that despite its struggles, Elekid showed no signs of giving up.
Their opponent gave no time for Elekid to adjust to the intense pain.
"Ariados use string shot."
The spider pokemon shot a long sticky substance at Elekid but it blocked the attack with one of its arms.
Silas saw an opportunity.
"Elekid–Thunder Wave"
Blue electricity flowed from Elekid to Ariados through the string shot paralying Ariados.
Now Ariados' body was crackling with electricity.
"Use Shadow Sneak quick"
Ariados once again sunk into its shadow before darting at Elekid as a black shadowy blur.
Elekid showing its toughness, crossed its arms and got pushed back when Ariados crashed into him at high speed. He skidded backwards but didn't fall.
While skidding, Elekid unleashed Thunder Shock without a command. Silas couldn't help but smirk. Elekid when angry tended to show its potential.
"Now use Brick Break"
Elekid darted towards Ariados with its glowing fist chopping down at its head.
Ariados tried to react but the paralysis kicked in leading to Ariados taking a direct hit.
"Use String Shot again."
Elekid once again blocked the webbing with its arm and used Thundershock through the web.
This time, Ariados endured the pain and yanked the string shot web pulling Elekid into the air .
"Use Poison Sting"
Ariados shot several purple needles into Elekids body then yanked the webbing to slam Elekid into the ground. Despite its tenacity, Elekid was knocked out when he hit the ground with a loud thud.
