Chapter 27 - Test from Kato Megumi

In the end, the discussion about how to unite the class didn't yield definite results, and everyone prepared to leave. Since this was Megumi's first time coming to this school, she didn't know where her dormitory was located yet.

Ryunosuke was forced to escort her, so the two of them walked together toward the student dormitory. Along the way, he kept asking with full curiosity about how Megumi could guess other people's thoughts.

Megumi was straightforward. "Since childhood, I've always felt burdened by my thin presence."

"To attract other people's attention, I learned to observe their movements and words to assess their actions and what they were thinking."

"Over time, my ability became like it is now. Maybe because of environmental factors since childhood, I became very good at reading situations."

The corner of Ryunosuke's mouth twitched. What "good at reading situations," this was clearly mind-reading ability.

Megumi seemed to again see what was in Ryunosuke's mind. Her lips slowly formed a beautiful curve; she suddenly wanted to tease him a little. Her footsteps became lighter.

"Akasaka-kun, would you like to try guessing what I'm thinking right now?"

Ryunosuke waved his hand. "I don't want to. It's clear I won't be able to guess, why should I try?"

Megumi said in a calm tone, "If Akasaka-kun can guess my thoughts, I'm willing to help you get a large amount of points."

Ryunosuke's steps stopped. Beads of sweat began to appear densely on his forehead. He stared at her with an incredulous look, as if looking at a monster.

"You... already know everything?" Ryunosuke asked. "About my intention to use you..."

Megumi stared at him flatly. "I know. From the first time I saw you, I already knew."

In her heart, Megumi added: (But compared to that, I care more about the fact that you can see me...)

Seeing his purpose already exposed, Ryunosuke no longer hid and boldly admitted. "Right! I want to use you to help me get a large amount of points. I really need money."

"My parents left a lot of debt out there. I need to collect many points at this school to pay them off and exchange them for cash after graduation."

Ryunosuke told his situation as it was to Megumi. He felt there was no use lying in front of someone who could guess thoughts; his only weapon was honesty.

Megumi nodded understandingly. "Although I don't know exactly what you want to do with me, you won't do anything dangerous, right?"

Ryunosuke raised his hand in oath. "Absolutely not!"

Megumi nodded. "I understand, Akasaka-kun. But, why should I help you find points?"

She tilted her head cutely.

Ryunosuke instantly fell silent, unable to answer.

Megumi turned her face away and no longer spoke. They were silent for quite a while until finally Ryunosuke exhaled a long breath, as if he had made a big decision.

"Kato-san, is what you said earlier still valid? If I successfully guess your thoughts, you'll help me find points."

Megumi put on a slightly confused face. "That's fine, Akasaka-kun. Please guess then."

She stood frozen with an expressionless face.

"Eh... guess just like that? No hints?"

Megumi didn't say anything, she remained silent like a statue, a sign that she was ready to be tested. Ryunosuke was forced to rack his brain and try to guess based on his knowledge of this girl from his previous world.

After thinking for a moment, Ryunosuke said, "Kato-san, you feel lonely, right?"

Megumi was silent for a moment. "Please don't say something obvious, Akasaka-kun. Anyone can see that."

"Alright then..." Ryunosuke realized that tactic didn't work and tried to change strategy. He scratched his head in frustration and paced in place. Suddenly his eyes sparkled.

"How about I just mention your body measurements?"

"If you dare say it, I'll report you to the police, Akasaka-kun." Megumi took out her phone expressionlessly, her finger already pressing the last number, just about to press the call button.

Ryunosuke hurriedly stopped her. "Wait, I'll think again! Give me one more chance!"

"Alright, one more chance for Akasaka-kun." Megumi lowered her phone while muttering softly, "How does he know my body measurements?"

Unfortunately, that mutter was too small so it wasn't heard by Ryunosuke.

To get Megumi's cooperation, Ryunosuke tried every way. Actually not deceiving, but cooperation.

Seeing him so panicked and working so hard, Megumi suddenly felt a little joy in her heart. Since childhood, there had never been a man who struggled this hard for her. This feeling... wasn't bad.

The "slightly mischievous" nature in Megumi began to emerge because of Ryunosuke.

Ryunosuke sighed resignedly. "Forget it, let's try the last way! I'll say everything!"

He stood in front of Megumi like a knight ready to die, then poured out all his views about her.

"Kato-san, you are a very ordinary girl..."

"I know that, Akasaka-kun. Please don't say something obvious."

Ryunosuke clicked his tongue slightly annoyed. "Don't interrupt me, I haven't finished talking."

Megumi made a gesture as if closing a zipper on her lips, a sign she would be quiet. Ryunosuke tried to focus again, staring seriously into Megumi's eyes.

"You are an ordinary girl, so ordinary that you couldn't be more ordinary. Your academic scores are average. Your appearance is ordinary. You also have very little presence. In this world, there won't be found another girl as ordinary as you."

Megumi's gaze began to empty. She felt like hitting someone now. However, Ryunosuke's tone suddenly changed.

"Although you seem ordinary and bland, actually that is your own unique charm." Ryunosuke adjusted the imaginary glasses on his face, intending to pour out his admiration for this character. He placed his hands on Megumi's shoulders and stared at her sharply.

Megumi's body trembled, she was a little nervous and her heartbeat began to race. She was curious, what was she like in this man's eyes?

"Kato-san, you have a sensitive heart. You can feel other people's feelings sharply, an ability that many people don't have. You're great, you're not as ordinary as you think. At least in my eyes, you are an undeniably beautiful girl."

Megumi's face instantly turned bright red. However, Ryunosuke's "straight ball" attack hadn't stopped; he continued to say words that sounded like a love confession.

"Although in other people's eyes you're ordinary, in my eyes, you are the only 'heroine' I acknowledge. Kato-san, you are a very good girl. To me, you shine more than any other girl. I want to be friends with you not just for mutual exploitation, but as true friends. Will you be my friend, Kato-san...?"

Ryunosuke extended his hand, waiting for an answer. He had given his maximum effort. The rest he left to fate.

Megumi slightly turned her face away, her cheeks felt hot. She kept playing with the tips of her hair and said in a shy tone, "Akasaka-kun is really cunning, you really see my true self."

Ryunosuke was very happy. "Then, are you willing to become mine?!"

"Please don't say things that cause misunderstandings, Akasaka-kun. We haven't reached that kind of relationship yet."

"Ah, sorry, sorry, I got too excited."

Megumi looked at him calmly then extended her hand. "Then, please help me, Akasaka-kun."

Ryunosuke was stunned before finally shaking that hand tightly, afraid the girl would regret it. "Kato-san, please help me too."

Unintentionally, Megumi made a small request. "From now on, don't call me Kato-san anymore. Just call me Kato. We're already friends, calling with a suffix feels too distant."

"Eh, alright, I understand. From now on I'll call you Kato."

Ryunosuke didn't think long. He wasn't a native Japanese, so he didn't know that calling a family name without a suffix was a very intimate act, usually only done by close friends, relatives, or lovers. He also didn't realize the difference when Megumi called him "Akasaka-kun."

This was Megumi's little tactic. As the only person who could notice her, she had unilaterally considered Ryunosuke as hers.

Ryunosuke himself didn't notice that small intention; he was just happy because he had gotten help from a "Grand Assassin." Someone who even if finishing you off before your eyes, no one would know who the culprit was.
