Behind them, the door slammed shut with a heavy, jarring thud that rang through the empty space.
Cherion was clinging to Zarius's coat, his chest heaving so violently he could barely catch his breath. His head was spinning.
He genuinely had no idea how they had managed to get here in what felt like less than five minutes. They had blurred past two guards near the secondary archway and a pair of maids carrying fresh linens, all of whom immediately pressed themselves flat against the stone wall, keeping their eyes glued to the floor.
The staff possessed a very healthy survival instinct. They knew that look on Zarius, and nobody was about to stand between him and whatever, or whoever, he was going after.
