Chapter 13 - First Adventure Will Be at a School?

The academy corridor was silent, broken only by the echo of my own nervous footsteps. I was waiting for Director Naeva, trying to calm the rapid pulse pounding in my ears.

"Come on, Alexs. It's time for you to introduce yourself to the students," a calm and elegant voice said behind me.

I turned around, and there she was. Director Naeva wore a dress with clean lines and carried an aura of composed authority. She gave me a gentle smile and motioned for me to follow her.

"Y-yes, of course… though I can't deny I'm a bit nervous," I admitted, letting out a sigh.

As we walked through the polished marble corridors toward the grand main hall, the atmosphere began to change. I started to feel dozens—hundreds—of eyes fixed on me. Murmurs, whispers, and restrained laughter filled the air like the buzzing of bees.

How many princesses and nobles are there here? This feels like walking through a minefield… I need to remember what Director Naeva told me: stay calm and avoid drawing unnecessary attention.

The girls, elegantly dressed in uniforms that looked more like high-fashion outfits, observed me closely. Their posture was flawless, reflecting years of etiquette training. In their eyes, I saw a confusing mix: pure curiosity, calculated interest, and in some cases, open distrust.

Without turning around, Naeva spoke in a low voice meant only for me.

"Relax, Alexs. Just act naturally. If you show nervousness, they'll notice, and some will see it as a weakness."

"Easy to say," I replied, forcing a smile. "But… being the only man in an academy full of high-ranking princesses and nobles isn't something you forget easily."

At last, we reached a set of massive carved wooden doors. When they opened, I was met with a sea of faces. The podium stood at the far end of the main hall, and an absolute silence fell over the crowd as they saw me step up beside the Director.

She stood at the center and extended a hand toward me. I took a deep breath, feeling as if my heart might burst from my chest, and stepped forward. Hundreds of eyes of every color were fixed on me, analyzing every detail.

"Attention!" Naeva's firm, authoritative voice echoed throughout the hall. "Today is a special day, because as many of you know, the Elite Academy of Aquaris has never had a male student… until now!"

A stronger murmur rippled through the room. I saw exchanged glances—surprise, disapproval, and in a few faces, genuine curiosity.

"Allow me to introduce Alexs," the Director continued. "I cannot go into details about his origin or the reason he is here, but you should know that he has been admitted to this academy for extraordinary reasons. I ask that you treat him as one of your own, with the same respect and courtesy."

The murmurs grew louder. I felt like I was being examined as a rare specimen.

"Who is he, and what kind of abilities does he have?" a nearby girl whispered.

"Well, if he's here, he must have some kind of talent… though it's strange to see a man among us," another replied with an amused smile.

"Alexs," Naeva said, turning to me with a slight smile. "Is there anything you'd like to say?"

I swallowed hard. All those gazes felt like weights on my shoulders. I took a step forward.

"Uh… thank you, Director Naeva. And… well, it's an honor to be here. I know this academy is exclusive and prestigious, and I understand that my presence may seem strange to many of you… but I'll do my best to earn your respect and… not cause any trouble."

A light laugh—more surprised than mocking—rose from parts of the hall. Some of the tension in the air seemed to ease.

"Very well, Alexs," Naeva nodded. "From this moment on, you will begin your life at the academy. I hope you learn much and prove yourself worthy of this opportunity. And to all of you… I expect you to give him a proper welcome."

I nodded and stepped back. The announcement was over, but the stares never left me. Naeva turned toward me and lowered her voice.

"You did well. Now comes the hardest part: living alongside them."

"I figured as much," I sighed. "Thank you, Director."

I stepped down from the podium, feeling the weight of every gaze. My new life, full of mysteries and challenges, had begun in the most public way possible.

---

Moments later, I stood before another large door—this time, a classroom. Behind it, I could hear the soft murmur of female voices. My first class instructor, a woman with a firm and elegant presence, waited beside me.

"Welcome to your first class, Alexs. Please maintain your composure and remember what we discussed."

"I'll try… though I can't help feeling like some kind of rare animal in a zoo," I confessed.

She smiled, a glint of amusement in her eyes, and opened the door.

As I stepped inside, the scene hit me with full force. The classroom was spacious and bright, filled with young noblewomen dressed impeccably. But they weren't alone. Standing beside each student, perfectly silent, was a personal attendant. All of them wore maid uniforms, hands clasped, eyes lowered, attentive to their mistresses' every need.

Wow…

The girls' expressions were a catalog of noble reactions: academic curiosity, concealed disdain, and in some cases, playful smiles—as if I were the day's unexpected entertainment.

"Girls," the professor announced in a clear voice that cut through the remaining murmurs. "Today I introduce Alexs, who will be a special student at this academy. Remember to treat him with the same respect you would show anyone here."

"A boy here? This is going to be… interesting," murmured a red-haired girl to her companion.

"I hope he can keep up with us," another whispered mischievously.

I tried to ignore the comments as the professor pointed me toward an empty seat at the back. As I walked between the desks, I couldn't help noticing the attendants' gazes. Some quickly looked away when our eyes met. Others held my gaze for a moment, with shy or curious smiles.

It's strange… but it makes sense. They're princesses and nobles, after all. Of course they'd have attendants… though being the only one without one makes me feel a bit out of place.

I settled into my seat, trying to appear calmer than I felt. The professor began the lesson, but the tension in the air was unmistakable. Side glances, barely audible whispers.

"So… he doesn't have a maid? Wow, he looks kind of lonely," one voice said.

"Poor thing… should we offer him one?" another replied with a fake sigh.

Suddenly, a girl with an elegant ribbon and an air of importance raised her hand.

"Professor, with all due respect… I wonder if Alexs will require some kind of assistant, considering his rather… peculiar situation."

All eyes turned toward me. The professor looked at me, evaluating.

"For now, Alexs does not have an assigned assistant, but he is perfectly capable of taking care of himself," she replied calmly. "And I'm sure he knows when and how to ask for help if he needs it, right, Alexs?"

"Uh… yes, of course. I'm fine, thank you," I said, forcing a smile.

Soft laughter spread through the classroom. I promised myself I would stand my ground, no matter what.

---

The professor cleared her throat, reclaiming everyone's attention.

"As many of you know, in less than a week the PrincesElite Tournament will take place," she announced. "It is a tradition of the academy, where the strongest students compete to demonstrate their skill and abilities. Remember, any student may freely enroll."

A murmur of genuine excitement rose through the class. Clearly, this tournament was a major event.

"There's no point in anyone else signing up!" declared a blonde girl with braided hair. "Everyone knows the winner will once again be Alice Charlotte, the 'Invincible Princess'!"

A sudden silence fell over the room. Almost instinctively, every gaze shifted toward a spot near the window.

There, seated with flawless posture, was a silver-haired girl who seemed to glow in the sunlight. I hadn't noticed her until now. Alice Charlotte slowly raised her head. Her gaze was intense and cold, radiating absolute confidence.

"Well, maybe the new boy, Alexs, could give it a try…" another girl whispered loudly enough for me to hear. "Maybe he actually has a chance."

Nervous giggles. Eyes darting between Alice and me.

Alice frowned, clearly annoyed. She turned her head, and her steel-gray eyes locked onto mine. There was an open challenge in them, mixed with deep pride.

"You?" she said, her firm, disdainful tone slicing through the air. "You think you could defeat me in the tournament, Alexs? You couldn't even face me properly, even if you used your… 'critical magic,' or whatever it is you have."

The direct confrontation caught me off guard, but I felt a spark of determination ignite within me. I couldn't back down—not here, not in front of everyone.

"I'm not here to prove who's the strongest…" I replied calmly, meeting her gaze. "But if I have to participate in the tournament, I'll do it with everything I've got."

My confident tone only seemed to irritate her further. She crossed her arms and gave a scornful smile.

"Then we'll see each other in the tournament," she declared, every word dripping with certainty. "And I'll show you why they call me the 'Invincible Princess.'"

The tension between us became an electric wire running through the entire classroom. The girls exchanged excited looks, murmurs growing louder. The potential clash between the strange new student and the undefeated champion was undoubtedly the topic of the day.

Meanwhile, I couldn't take my eyes off Alice. Her aura of power was almost tangible. Curiosity mixed with adrenaline.

Who was this girl, really? And what level of strength would I have to face in this academy?

One thing was certain: my life here would never be boring.
