"Come on—we're not gonna drag him back, are we? He trusts you more than he ever trusted us." Kidd pressed his case, trailing me as I stormed inside the house.
My brow was furrowed tight. "I don't care! What if my kids get caught up in your mess? Have you thought about that?!" I stopped short when he grabbed my arm.
"Calm down, will you—ouch!"
My eyes flew wide as Kidd went sprawling backward. "Kidd!" I spun on Lucian, shooting him a sharp look.
He'd been right beside me—and out of nowhere, he'd punched Kidd hard enough to send him crashing through the doorway and onto the porch!
"Why'd you hit him?!" I demanded.
His face was impassive, his gaze fixed on Kidd as he pushed himself up. I could see his right cheek already swelling red from the force of the blow.

"Lucian!" I called again, and this time he turned his eyes to me.
"He was harassing you," he said, his voice dark and low.
