Chapter 6 - What If?

"After coming from the outhouse, you have been acting strangely, is everything alright?"

"Yes, just a bit overwhelmed by all of this. Fate sue has a way to turn tables." Anna mumbled.

"If fate turns the table, we'll find a way to turn it back, do you understand?"

"I hope we can."

"We will." Hazel assured.

"Please come in." Anna invited, turning on the lights.

"You've got a lovely bedroom here; the designs are exceptional." Hazel commented.

"Yeah. Thanks." She smiled faintly.

"I brought some incense for your room too, while I was in Spain, my abuela would keep them burning in my room so I can always have a calm mind; I brought them with me as a gift from her hoping I would need one day, but right now, I feel that it would be of great use to you than me."

"Mucho Gracias Hazel, realmente aprecio tu amabilidad y apoyo."

"No fue gran cosa, eres una amiga."

"Bien, Hasta mañana."

"Bien, Buenas Noches."

Watching the incense burn, Anna could only get worried.

What if she was truly Unstable, what would happen then?

She remembered how she had totally freaked out in the outhouse.

Nothing was making sense, and she was starting to really doubt her sanity.

Robert's Mansion.

"I am so glad you could make it here today, Anna, I thought you were not going to make it" Hazel said.

"Why wouldn't I, you personally called me here for a sleep over, I would surely come."

"True. The only problem is with Jake; he is not really into all of this so, we will just have to steer clear of him for a while, I am sure he'll come around."

Anna nodded.

It was normal, since the sleepover involved her. He wouldn't want to see her face.

"So, where do we start from?"

"Huh, Acrostic Puzzle, Disco dance, Video games, there's a lot to choose from." Anna suggested.

"Wow, you are do know how to have fun."

"Thank you."

"So the acrostic puzzle shall begin." Hazel announced as she brought the puzzle board from the coffee table.

After a short while.

"Do you mind grabbing some cake from the kitchen, please, I totally forgot about the cake while I was there." Hazel voice sounded as her figure appeared with a bucket of ice filled with wine. "I got wine for us." She chirped.

"Oh. Let me get the cake then.".

The choking smell of Fog and hazelnut was suffocating.

She carefully withdrew the cake from the oven, and with it was a neatly folded paper, just like the one she saw in the outhouse.

Her heart raced. The oxygen in her lungs felt suspended.

She slowly reached for the paper, opening it.

It read:

"Jake doesn't know what you are hiding, but I do, and soon, everyone will know."

Her eyes darted through the room in panic.

Who was keeping the notes for her to see, and what was she hiding?

She felt her feet trembling, her whole body was in shock and fear. Someone was watching her, calculating her every step and was ready to ruin her.

What was her offence? What was her mistake?

Suddenly, shadows started appearing throughout the whole room, the place was covered in thick clouds of heavy darkness, there was no one except her- no one.

She screamed, trying to find a way out, but she found nothing.

It felt so strange, and then there was a pungent smell, a pungent smell of gas.

She closed her eyes, trying to recall where she was, and then when she opened her eyes, she found the whole room in a mess.

Jake stood near the cooker, watching her.

The smell was strong, very strong, and then before she could understand what was happening.

The explosion happened.

Everything went blank.

"Jake, do you think she'd want to hurt herself and you just because she is obsessed with you?"

"Don't you understand how dangerous this girl is, huh?"

It was Hazel's and Jake's voice that woke her from her slumber.

Slowly, she opened her eyes, wanting to see if Jake was alright.

He looked fine, more than alright while she was in pains.

She was confused, how could it be possible if he was standing near the cooker?

"How are you feeling Jake?" she inquired.

"Alive." He replied curtly.

"That's good."

"And how are you feeling, Anna?" Hazel asked, holding an incense tightly.

"I feel unwell and…

Jake raised his hands, signaling her to stop.

"Let's cut to the chase Anna, when did you become so obsessed that you planned on taking my life alongside yours?"

She was puzzled, his expression did not give the vibe of someone jesting so, what was he talking about?

Obsessed to the extent of murder or suicide?

"And why would I want to kill you and myself?"

He threw different pictures of him, letters with different dates, a lot of stuff she had kept with her, including his audio notes.

Some of the letters stated how much she hated Hazel for coming in between them and how she vowed to kill him if she could not have him.

It got to a point; she could not help but burst into hysterical laughter.

"You think I love you really? Who made this up, I must say; it is not funny?" She straightened.

"Anna, get some rest, I'll leave with Jake now."

"But I will surely come back for answers, you pathetic animal!" Jake yelled.

His words plunged her heart,

Pathetic Animal? Was that what he thought of her? Pathetic animal?

Tears rolled down her cheek as she reached for the glass of water on the table.

A paper as transparent as water fell on her clothes.

She trembled in fear, and anxiousness.

She opened the paper slowly after placing the glass of water on the table.

And it read:

"They think you are healing, but you are pretending, aren't you?"

A lot of things didn't make sense to her anymore, she was indeed pretending to understand with the little knowledge.

But the truth is… she is gradually losing herself and to every whisper.

And Jake?

Well, no one was needed for her to understand that she already lost him, and that she was all alone in this.
