Chapter 1 - The coffee shop between us

Every morning at exactly 8:10, she sat by the window of the small coffee shop on Maple Street. Same table. Same book. Same untouched smile.

Aarav noticed her on the day his life felt unbearably loud. The city rushed, his phone buzzed, deadlines chased him—but inside that café, she was calm. Like time had decided to pause just for her.

He didn't speak to her. Not that day. Not the next.

Instead, he learned her habits.

She ordered cappuccino with no sugar.

She folded the corner of the page she stopped at.

She smiled softly before leaving, as if thanking the room for keeping her company.

On the fifteenth day, courage found him.

"Is the book any good?" he asked, gesturing toward the worn paperback.

She looked up, surprised—but not annoyed.

"It is," she said. "It reminds me that some people feel deeply… even if they don't show it."

That sentence stayed with him longer than the conversation itself.

From that day on, mornings became shared. Words grew from small talk into stories, laughter into comfort. He learned she was called Maya, and she learned he feared silence more than noise.

One rainy morning, she didn't come.

The next day, neither did she.

On the third day, he found a note at their table.

"Some connections don't need goodbyes.

They just need remembering.

—M"

Weeks passed. Months softened the ache.

Then one evening, in a different café, in a different street, he heard a familiar laugh.

She stood there, holding a book. Same smile. Same calm.

Their eyes met.

And in that moment, Aarav understood—

Love doesn't always arrive to stay.

Sometimes, it comes just to remind you

that your heart is still capable of feeling everything.
