Leon's second text message landed on Noah's heart like an invisible, heavy hammer.

Sherry's abnormality, Trant's "gift," Mr. C's threat, and the unknown lurking in Paris—all the clues were weaving together into a suffocating web. The lingering smell of fresh paint in the apartment felt like it was laced with the scent of a coming conspiracy.

Noah placed the black phone on the cold glass coffee table. Leon's text still glowed on the screen, the words searing into his mind. He sat in silence, his fingers tracing the smooth, warm grain of the rosewood box. Pressure, heavy as the rain-laden clouds over Paris, pressed down on him.

Trant, the man known as "Mr. T," had laid out an enormous, transparent scheme. He had placed the chips on the table one by one: the viral prototype, the serum, and even the silver needles Noah used for his medical practice. Trant had mapped Noah's weaknesses, his attachments, and his love for Claire and Sherry, forcing him onto a paved road.

Sherry—the little girl who had survived the hell of Raccoon City with her smile intact—was now a pawn.

"This is a transparent scheme..." Noah's voice was dry as sandpaper. He slowly raised his head to look at Claire. "For you... for Sherry... I'm afraid I have no other choice."

Claire had been sitting quietly on the sofa, watching the weight of the messages crush him. When he spoke, she couldn't suppress the surging emotion. Tears rolled from her azure eyes, dripping onto her black sports tank and leaving dark stains. She stood up, her movements sluggish, as if the gravity in the room had increased tenfold.

She walked to him barefoot, her red jacket discarded on the carpet like a dying flame. Under Noah's worried gaze, she threw herself into his arms. Noah held her tight, feeling the slight tremor in her warm skin. He was used to Claire's strength—her decisiveness in Raccoon City—but this fragile, helpless version of her made his heart ache.

Claire buried her face in his chest, inhaling his scent as if it were the only anchor in a storm. Silence spread through the room, broken only by the chaotic drumbeat of their hearts.

After a long while, Claire raised her head. Her eyes were red, her lashes sparkling with tears. She didn't speak; she simply pressed her lips against his in a kiss that carried a hint of despair and reckless madness. It was primitive, a need to melt into each other to prove they were still alive. Noah tasted the salt of her tears and responded with everything he had.

"Noah..." her voice was a hoarse whisper against his ear. "I don't want to have any regrets."

The words acted as a spell, shattering Noah's last line of defense. Paris, the city of romance, became the outlet for their release. Inside that temporary, desolate apartment, the fear of the unknown and the love they shared burst forth like a breached dam. Every touch was a confirmation; every breath was a promise.

Solace in despair. Starlight in the darkness.

In a temporary operations base somewhere in Europe, Chris Redfield was staring at a tactical map. Suddenly, an inexplicable surge of irritable fury erupted from his gut, his temples throbbing as if something precious were being taken from him.

"Chris? You okay?" Barry Burton patted his shoulder. "Your face just turned a weird shade of red."

Chris took a deep breath, trying to suppress the inexplicable rage. "It's nothing," he muttered. He didn't know why, but he felt like he wanted to punch a boulder.

Early the next morning, Noah extracted his arm from a sleeping Claire and stood up. His physique, hardened by years of Xingyi Quan, was bathed in the hazy morning light.

He opened the sandalwood box. The silver needles shimmered. Trant knew his secrets, so Noah would use them. He needed more strength to protect Claire and Sherry from the "Queen" of the Antarctic or the shadow of the Ashfords.

"Noah?" Claire walked out of the bedroom, rubbing her eyes.

"I need your help," he said gently.

Under his guidance, Claire carefully inserted the silver needles into the key acupoints along his Governor Vessel. The sting of the needles acted as a catalyst, igniting the latent "Qi" within his body. A stream of warmth rose from his Dantian, surging through his meridians like a turbulent river.

Noah realized that after the previous night's "connection" with Claire, his cultivation was far more efficient. The Qi was more condensed, more refined. He dismissed the awkward thought and focused.

He reached for the alloy box. The white vapor gushed out. The G-Virus vial sat there, ominous and purple.

"Noah! What are you doing?" Claire's voice was sharp with terror.

"Trust me," he said. He pressed the hidden needle into his left arm and injected the deep purple liquid.

"No!" Claire lunged for the antiviral serum, her eyes fixed on him, ready to inject it if he turned.

The pain was a tidal wave. It felt like thousands of red-hot needles were piercing every nerve. Noah's veins bulged; sweat poured off him. Two forces—the virus and his Qi—engaged in a life-and-death struggle within his cells.

He entered a deep meditative state, guiding his Qi to devour and fuse with the viral power. It was a high-stakes gamble. If he won, he would be something more than human. If he lost, he'd be a monster.

Claire stayed by his side, not daring to blink. A full day and a full night passed.

When the dawn of the second day broke, Noah stopped trembling. He opened his eyes. They were deep and bright, the agony gone. He had succeeded.

He saw Claire—haggard, her eyes bloodshot from the vigil—and pulled her into his arms. "I'm sorry, darling," he whispered into her neck. "I'm fine. I'm here."

Claire didn't speak. She just felt his strong, steady heartbeat until her nerves finally snapped from exhaustion, and she fell into a deep sleep in his arms.
