"It seems she knows exactly where she belongs."
Dakota's eyes glistened as she wrapped an arm carefully around the little girl, mindful not to wake her.
"So do I."
Amelia watched the mother and daughter for another moment before quietly making her way toward the door.
Outside, she found Dimitri and Sera waiting in the corridor exactly where she had left them.
"She's asleep?" Dimitri asked.
Amelia nodded.
"Both of them."
Relief washed over their faces almost instantly.
Sera released a long breath she hadn't realised she had been holding.
"Thank goodness..."
She glanced toward the closed bedroom door before lowering her voice.
"Where do you think Kade is? Blackwood Village isn't that far away."
Dimitri remained thoughtful for several moments before answering.
"If he hasn't returned yet, then whatever delayed him must be important."
He knew Kade well enough to understand one thing.
