"Miss," the woman said with a respectful nod, her tone carefully neutral. "I'm Elena, part of the household staff. Alpha Kade asked me to check on you when you woke up. I've brought breakfast and some clothes, your dress from last night was damaged."
Damaged.
That was certainly one way to describe what had happened to that formal gown.
Dakota's throat felt dry as she tried to speak, her voice emerging rough and barely recognizable. "Where is he? Kade?"
"Alpha Kade is handling pack business this morning," Elena replied, setting the tray on a nearby table and laying the clothes across a chair. "He left instructions that you were to rest and eat, and that someone would bring you to him once you were ready."
Instructions.
Like she was some kind of guest.
Or prisoner.
Dakota couldn't tell which was which.
"What time is it?" Dakota asked, needing to orient herself somehow, needing to understand how much time had passed since she'd fled the engagement party.
