Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 Planting Berry Trees

The weather was still chilly despite the arrival of spring; even after nightfall, the temperature on Mount Tensei remained cold.

With the alternation of day and night, some nocturnal Pokémon began to venture out.

Thanks to Fuyuki's efforts, the cave where they lived had undergone a complete transformation.

The entire cave floor was now covered with a smooth, soft, and warm-to-the-touch horizontal-grained wooden floor.

A large carpet lay on the floor, next to which sat a mushroom-shaped nightlight.

The light emitted a warm yellow glow, dispelling the surrounding darkness and adding a cozy and comfortable feel to the once cold cave.

Raikou lay on the soft carpet, looking down at the human cub sitting beside it, lost in thought.

The events of the past two days kept flashing through its mind.

Even Raikou itself didn't realize that its attention to this human cub had unknowingly reached an exaggerated level.

"...What are you thinking about?"

Finally, Raikou couldn't help but ask.

Raikou's aloof and cold voice echoed in Fuyuki's mind, interrupting his thoughts.

"I was thinking, what if we run out of food?" Fuyuki replied.

"You don't need to worry about that," Raikou said. "Since Entei adopted you, he'll surely take on the responsibility of finding food."

Actually, Raikou wanted to say that it could also bring back food, but it wasn't willing to admit so quickly that it was slowly accepting the existence of this human cub and the fact that he had stayed in Mount Tensei.

"But what if one day we can't find food outside?" Fuyuki worried about the future.

He had just been browsing the system shop, looking at the vegetable, fruit, and crop seeds he could currently buy.

He currently had 85 shock points left, enough to buy some seeds.

But before that, there was another problem.

That was, they couldn't plant them!

Neither Raikou, Entei, nor Marshadow possessed the ability to cultivate land. Although he could, his age limited his abilities, and Fuyuki was powerless to help.

"You don't need to worry too much," Raikou said after a moment of silence, a rare moment of comfort.

"No matter what, I... Entei won't let you go hungry."

Fuyuki naturally understood Raikou's unspoken meaning.

Perhaps influenced by his still-developing brain, Fuyuki felt he sometimes unconsciously acted in ways inappropriate for his soul's age.

Like now, sensing Raikou's feelings, he couldn't help but hug him tightly, exclaiming happily:

"Raikou is the best!"

Entei is the best, Marshadow is the second best, and Raikou is the third best!

Raikou paused slightly, then closed his eyes, coldly saying, "I never said I'd go find you food."

But his voice couldn't hide his joy.

He understood, he understood!

Fuyuki chuckled, releasing Raikou and sprawling on the carpet, continuing to browse the system shop.

Soon, he found a manual in a corner.

[Berry Tree Cultivation Guide: Unlock knowledge related to Berry Tree cultivation. Exchange required: 50 Shock Points.]

Other crops can't be cultivated in the fields now, even if you wanted to plant them.

Since that's the case, let's try planting a few Berry Trees first!

Exchange!

The next second, a flood of information entered Fuyuki's mind.

[Berry Tree Introduction: Berries Tree are a very magical fruit tree. Their fruiting cycle is three days. After they mature, the berries can be harvested from the branches every two days. Their ridiculously short fruiting cycle and the abundant nutrients contained in the fruit pulp make them sufficient to satisfy the needs of almost all Pokémon.]

[Berry Tree Planting Method: First, find a relatively loose soil, then bury the Berry Tree seeds in the soil. Water them regularly every day, and the Berry Tree seeds will grow vigorously. If conditions permit, you can use some fertilizer to make the fruit tree grow stronger.]

[Tree Fruit Harvest: Mature tree fruits have various uses. After harvesting, they can be eaten directly or processed into foods such as Poffin, Energy Cubes, and juice using specific tools.]

Fuyuki: zzz

The sheer volume of information caused Fuyuki to fall asleep on the spot.

The next morning, Fuyuki opened his eyes.

He habitually reached out to touch his side, but didn't find the familiar furry creature.

Fuyuki immediately sat up. The cave was empty; Raikou was nowhere to be seen.

"Raikou?" Fuyuki called out, then got up from the carpet, preparing to go outside the cave to check.

But before he could take two steps, a lithe figure appeared at the cave entrance.

It was the missing Raikou.

Raikou carried the basket Fuyuki had bought earlier, walking in with steady, agile steps.

It placed the basket in front of Fuyuki; inside was a pile of round tree fruits.

"What's this?" Fuyuki paused, then looked up at Raikou.

Raikou turned away indifferently.

"Don't overthink it. I was just worried you'd starve. It would be hard to explain to Entei when he returned."

Fuyuki: "..."

What a stubborn but soft-hearted tsundere cat!

Although Raikou spoke coldly, its actions betrayed its words.

Fuyuki picked up a tree fruit and sincerely said, "Thank you, Raikou!"

Raikou pretended not to hear, walked to the side and sat down, its eyes fixed on Fuyuki not far away.

Fuyuki quickly ate a tree fruit, then trotted to a corner of the cave, pulling out a pile of leftover tree fruit pits from somewhere.

Then, Fuyuki, carrying the pits, trotted out of the cave again.

Raikou was slightly taken aback, then got up and followed, seeing the small figure busily working in an open area beside the cave.

Fuyuki initially wanted to dig a hole himself to bury the fruit seeds, but he was too weak and lacked the right tools. So, he turned to Raikou behind him for help.

Raikou, who had been watching the human child's actions with a puzzled expression, looked at him again when he suddenly turned around.

Then, Raikou heard the child plead pitifully, "Raikou, help me!"

Raikou: "...What are you doing?"

"I want to bury these fruit seeds in the soil," Fuyuki explained.

"That way, when the fruit grows, we won't have to go down to find fruit anymore! And we won't have to worry about not finding food!"

Hearing this, Raikou was immediately surprised.

This human child actually thought of so much!

But what he said didn't seem to make a mistake.

If they could grow their own fruit trees, they could come here directly to harvest the fruit in the future.

Although it deeply distrusted humans, Raikou had to admit that humans were truly a race brimming with creativity and boundless imagination.

Was this perhaps a human talent?

It was truly astonishing that this young human cub could think of this.
