Something was wrong. Well, something(s) were wrong.
There was a hovering screen at the edge of Sunny's vision. Moonlight and Luna were acting as if they couldn't see it. The alcohol must have not quite left Sunny yet.
Hallucination, Sunny concluded.
Moonlight yawned, stretching on the couch, her makeup smothering the fabric of the seat.
<
The voice echoed, but neither Luna not Moonlight seemed to hear it, Moonlight busy struggling with sleep while Luna was on her phone.
Sunny looked at them, down at the plates on the table and glasses of juice.
'The hallucinations are getting a bit serious,' Sunny thought, his eyes drifting to the hovering screen.
Two words hovered on the centre of the screen.
Accept.
Decline.
Accept, decl- Sunny's reading was curt short by the voice yet again.
Option selected; Accept.
"Whoa,what?"
"Huh?" Luna and Moonlight turned their gaze to him, almost synchronised.
A moment passed.
A silent moment, a long moment.
"No-nothing, "Sunny stumbled through his words.
"I was thinking it's about time I head to my dorm room."
"Aww, place not good enough for mistress sun tits over here," Moonlight grumbled, turning on the couch.
"What? No, I'm actually a g-"
"You sure you wanna leave? I mean, you're welcome to stay, Sean and his guys were looking at you kinda...." Luna stopped before she finished the statement, though it was clear what she was to say.
How could he tell them that Sean is in fact his roommate, and he is in fact a he?
"They wouldn't want me, I assure you," Sunny said.
"Those assholes would put their dicks in blenders if they could fuck them, pretty sure they would want a cute girl."
"I'm not a girl."
"And I'm the president of the moon," Moonlight replied, sarcasm flooding her tone.
"Well, can we at least call your roommate? You said you're new, wouldn't want you getting lost or anything," Luna said, compassion radiating from her about as much as the warmth she brought in the room with her.
"Geez, someone's such a mom," Moonlight commented.
"My roommate?" Sunny considered saying Sean was his roommate but after how they were talking about him, maybe it wouldn't be the best choice to say he's affiliated with him.
He said it anyways. "Sean's my roommate."
Silence.
"You're kidding," Moonlight broke the silence. "Talk about bad luck."
Luna just stared at Sunny, something in her eyes, not judgement, but something for sure.
Sunny rose to his feet. The night gown flowed seamlessly as he moved for his first step.
Darkness.
Sunny found himself floating in a cold abysmal darkness.
"I'm dead, aren't I?" Sunny heaved a groan.
'When you die you'll either go to live in the sun God's glorious haven, or you will be cast into the abyss.' The elders always said this. Sunny always brushed it as empty threats.
Now here he was, on the said abyss.
A normal person would probably break into tears and beg for mercy and forgiveness for their insolence in an attempt to escape the abyss.
Sunny, however, wasn't in quite the rush to go live eternity with his parents' murderer. He would sooner let himself decay and get consumed by the darkness than submit to the malevolent god.
A great blast of light illuminated the vast expanse of nothingness that Sunny now floated in.
"I won't worship you if that's what you're trying to get here, asshole," Sunny yelled, his voice echoing the abyss.
Defiance.
Absolute.
Immediately after the yell, Sunny realised that this was in fact not the sun god.
Much as he knew about the sun god, he knew well that he wasn't a large hovering blue screen.
"What the fu-"
"I am system Zero."
The voice echoed, as if coming from all reaches of the abyss.
'Oh, I'm hallucinating again. Jeez I should really avoid drinking from now on.'
"I have selected you to be my host, son of the sun, and you have accepted."
"Don't call me that," son of the sun, the title made his mouth go sour. "And I didn't accept anything."
The abyss shifted, showing an exact replica of the moment Sunny received the choice screen and allegedly accepted.
"What the fuck? I was reading, that's not even fair!"
The abyss repeated the point of him saying 'accept' over and over again, like a broken record.
"Fine! So what now, you take over my life and make me do stuff or you give me superpowers or what?"
"Yes."
"Yes to what?"
The abyss shifted again and Sunny stood in an endlessly reversing scene. Time seemed to go back rapidly before coming to a halt with him in the midst of a war.
On one side were people releasing great catastrophes with nothing but waves of their hands.
"Long ago," the system began, its voice echoing in Sunny's head"System users had no limitations and could do whatever they wished. They were initially meant to bring order to the chaos that is your world, and face beings no normal man can. But power corrupts, it always does so to you humans."
Unrequired stab, but okay.
"A war ensued, system users held different views, some wanted to live ad gods, some wanted to aid humanity, as was their purpose."
The abyss scene shifted again, a great catastrophe ensued before Sunny, masses lay lifeless, storms stirred above and the scent of iron met his nostrils.
"But the system users were powerful. Non system users, even with some system users aiding them, stood no chance."
Yet again, the abyss shifted, revealing a scene of a person standing alone, beams of light flowing to him.
"In a final attempt, the supporting system users poured their power to one, a being powerful enough to put an end to the war."
Basic plot outline, he'll just win with ease now, Sunny thought.
"He lost."
There was a long silence, a scene of a man getting overpowered by hundreds others and eventually getting defeated played. It looked fictional, but the outcome was oddly realistic.
"System users won, and for a moment they thought that was all. But there are hierarchies to power. There are those above system users. There are gods."
The abyss lit up, above Sunny a great cloud formed, multiple figures standing above the cloud.
"Gods interfered, after endless prayers from non system users, and in return, man worships them."
"Talk about a cheat code, and if gods could just do that in the first place, why didn't they go to them from the beginning?"
"You'd be surprised what the human ego does."
Sunny shrugged.
"And I'm being shown this because..."
"You are now a system user, you are to deal with anomalies, if they are to come, but your power is limited."
"What kind of anomalies?" Sunny enquired.
The abyss shifted and he now stood in a city, a large and busy street, everyone rushing to get somewhere.
The sky cracked open, tentacles emerged from crack and following it emerged a creature of contorted masses, endless tentacles that reached down and every single one of the people that were rushing about stopped, a smoke getting drawn from them and towards the creature.
"That is an anomaly,"system said, everything and everyone pausing like a film.
"Yea...I decline the offer, there is no way in hell I am facing whatever the hell that is."
"A system can seek a new user once the current user has died."
"Bitch are you seeing the same thing I am?" Sunny roared, his hands gesturing to the horror paused before him.
"That's one of the weakest types."
Silence.
