Ren had a pretty clear picture of Yamato's development.
This girl was a female brute who had inherited Kaido's talent. Without her Devil Fruit, she could already surpass the Flying Six in combat power. The problem was her brain — she was suited only for frontline fighting. All Ren needed to do was give her an offense-oriented Devil Fruit.
He planned to wait until Doflamingo delivered the replicated Mythical Zoan and then hand that fruit to Yamato.
As for the other kids, Ren hadn't made arrangements yet.
The second and third sisters of the Boa trio didn't have outstanding talent — about on par with Black Maria. Nothing to worry about. Three Ancient Zoan animal souls would suffice.
In Ren's eyes, Mythical Zoan and Paramecia Devil Fruits were both extremely precious. But Ancient Zoan and standard Zoan fruits were in an entirely different league.
After all, with Ren's abilities, ordinary animal souls were practically limitless.
Even rare Ancient Zoans could be matched with creatures found on the secluded ancient islands of this world. And as the research into Devil Fruits at Enkanomiya deepened — along with the study of various creatures — some organisms stronger than ordinary animals were being created.
The Dragon Lizard!
When they mentioned that Lucci had become an Oni, it was actually because — with Ren's help — he had received the soul of the very first created Dragon Lizard!
Among the knowledge Stussy had brought, some of it pertained to Vegapunk's research. That man had successfully replicated a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit. At the time, Stussy believed the fruit was defective and concluded that fruit manufacturing was a dead end.
Moreover, Vegapunk's decision to abandon the project had reinforced her belief that her hypothesis was correct.
But after hearing Ren's explanation, she learned that wasn't the case.
So the project was restarted within Enkanomiya. But just as Caesar could only produce incomplete Zoan Devil Fruits, Stussy didn't make much headway in this area either.
Later, during discussions with Keiko, they shifted their approach. Instead of manufacturing fruits, they would create "creatures" directly!
This was where Stussy excelled.
She was herself a created life-form, and her research in Lineage Factor was no less advanced than the Vinsmoke family's.
And Ren had created many "animals" before — Dvalin, Marshmallow, Durin…
But these creatures merely had the outward appearance of mythical beings. Underneath, they possessed nothing particularly special. In an actual fight, they might not even be able to beat the Mountain God in the Flower Capital.
Moreover, these creatures operated on the same principle as Oni. Dvalin, for example — its true body was actually a marine creature. Its inner soul was of its original form, not its current appearance.
Just as Qiyue was a Velociraptor-type Oni, her soul remained human, and that would never change.
If Ren had chosen to take on Dvalin, what he would have received was not the Dvalin with full land-sea-air combat capabilities, but the original blue dragon of the sea.
Stussy's current research, however, approached the problem from the angle of Lineage Factor — or genetics — to create true "mythical creatures."
In fact, winged lizards and griffins with lion bodies and eagle heads had already been created. But Stussy wasn't satisfied.
At the end of the day, although these creatures looked close to the myths, they lacked any truly supernatural power.
But Vegapunk's replicated Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, created from Kaido's Lineage Factor, possessed the same abilities as Kaido himself.
So — could these creatures be granted special abilities through some means?
The creature born from this concept was the Dragon Lizard.
Deep Sea Dragon Lizard — Thunder Devourer.
This was a entirely purple Dragon Lizard with the power to release lightning. This was actually because Stussy had later requested Ren's participation in the experiment, successfully integrating the element of lightning into the Dragon Lizard's Lineage Factor.
Before that, Stussy had sought help from Yukiko and the others, but without success.
Only under Ren's power was the lightning element successfully integrated. This was partly because Yukiko and the others had not yet awakened their fruits. At the same time, Ren and Stussy discovered that this method only worked with Logia abilities.
Even awakened Paramecia and Zoan fruits wouldn't work.
So Stussy proposed a new topic: Elemental Power!
Unfortunately, apart from Ren's lightning element, there were no other reference points. And the Woods-Woods Fruit, also classified as Logia, didn't seem to be applicable.
"Even though the Woods-Woods Fruit is classified as Logia, its essence is plant-based. Wouldn't that still count as a living organism?" Keiko had explained.
The names and classifications of Devil Fruits were ultimately human constructs with considerable variability.
Or perhaps Logia and Elemental didn't map one-to-one.
After all, plants were certainly part of nature, but not necessarily part of the elements. This was even more apparent with the Dark-Dark Fruit.
Darkness itself was not an element. So-called darkness existed only because light was absent.
Perhaps this was also why the Dark-Dark Fruit couldn't undergo elemental transformation. Following this line of thinking, the Cloud-Cloud Fruit in Ren's possession might represent the Water element. Yukiko's Snow-Snow Fruit could also be Water.
The seven classical elements had suddenly lost two.
The Ice element could potentially be replicated. After all, ice was simply a phase change of water. Under the right conditions, it might be possible to create creatures capable of wielding the Ice element.
But the Dendro element would likely remain absent from Stussy's advanced elemental research permanently.
The unused Logia fruits in Ren's possession were the Flame-Flame Fruit, the Cloud-Cloud Fruit, and the Smoke-Smoke Fruit.
The Flame-Flame and Cloud-Cloud Fruits both contained "elements" — there was a good chance they could be used to create new species of Dragon Lizard. But Ren hadn't absorbed them.
For one, Stussy's research was still immature.
To date, only two Dragon Lizards had been successfully bred. One was the Thunder Devourer — the one Lucci had received. The other was the Deep Sea Dragon Lizard — Original Species.
Like Chopper, "Original Species" meant the base model — a Dragon Lizard with absolutely no elemental power. The civilian form of Dragon Lizards, basically!
