Chapter 73 - As He Expected

When it was almost 11p.m., Class 1-A was all ordered to sleep by a drowsy Aizawa. After cleaning up, the boys went to the large room assigned to them while the girls went their room.

"Goodnight, babe." Mina kissed Sukuna's cheek, sleepy from all of the singing. Sukuna hummed softly as she slowly walked away. He then gently held her hand before he kissed her forehead.

"Goodnight." He whispered before placing his lips on her head, shamelessly sniffing her hair loudly. Mina groaned weakly in embarrassment. Sukuna ruffled her hair before walking away, hands in his pockets.

As the boys started tucking in, though some were still talking in hushed voices. Sukuna was in the washroom, staring into the mirror. His crimson eyes then glanced down at the mummified finger he was holding.

'This is the tenth one... What does this mean? Does arriving at the camp count as a major event?' He thought to himself, questioning the mechanics of his strange Quirk that gave him more trouble than good.

'No, it must be a warning. It's preparing me for something...' He thought ominously before immediately swallowing it. He sighed a little as his body reacted by automatically spreading his signature tattoos before fading immediately.

"Argh!" He grunted feeling his chest suddenly tighten. His fingers trembled around nothing as unknown memories slammed into him faster than he could breathe.

"With this treasure, I summon..."

"Gnngh!" Sukuna snapped out of it, finding himself staring into the white sink. He then stared at his reflection of himself breathing heavily, sweat dripping down his face.

He then looked at something below him, and narrowed his eyes.

"My Quirk is more complicated than I thought..."

"Dude! You good in there?!" He heard Kirishima call from outside of the washroom.

"Yeah, just stubbed my toe..."

" Oh... I'm sorry man... But we all gotta go through it someday..."

...

"Dude, of course you're the first one up. It's like 5:30 in the morning. Did you even sleep at all last night?" Denki muttered, rubbing his eyes as he approached Sukuna who was drinking some water from a Hello Kitty bottle Mina gifted him.

"I always wake up at this time." Sukuna replied before he continued drinking some more. It's not like he enjoyed waking up before the sun even rises, but when you have nightmares the moment you close your eyes, you would fear sleeping too.

Sukuna's nightmares had gotten even worse. The 'victims' in his killing and cannibalism spree have been replaced by his own family and friends. He woke up immediately after seeing the image of Mina in it, not wanting to experience it one bit.

"Is that a Hello Kitty bottle?" Denki pointed out.

"What of it?" Sukuna asked, looking at his bottle, finding it to be a cool aesthetic.

"That's a sick bottle. I've been thinking about getting a Kuromi bottle for Jiro. Are they expensive?"

"Mina got it online, said it only costed 2000 yen." He replied, placing it in his bag.

"Oh so Mina got you that? Man she's spoiling you huh. When are you returning the favor?" Denki smirked at him. Sukuna smiled a little.

"In a couple of days, still thinking about how I'll go about with it. Just don't go yapping about it to her you hear?"

Denki raised his hands. "Relax, I'm not that type of guy. Your secret's safe with me." He assured.

"Anyways, you complain about me waking up early, but you're the second guy that's here." Sukuna raised an eyebrow at him. Denki blinked, before he shrugged.

"Meh, I just didn't want to fight over the shower with the guys. And I kinda wanna enjoy the peace and quiet before we really get into it, ya know?" Sukuna nodded silently as they stared at the sky.

He blinked, feeling two hands wrapping around his waist from behind. He glanced back, and a sleepy Mina came into view.

"Goo mowning baby.." She stumbled on her words, slowly falling back asleep.

'Baby? That's a new one.' He resisted a chuckle. "Looks like someone had some late night 'girl talk' before they slept." He teased. Mina only hummed in response, too sleepy to reply.

"Good morning sleeping beauty." Denki greeted Jiro with a grin. The girl yawned in response.

"I don't wanna deal with you... first thing... in the morning..." She mumbled, but then she leaned her on his shoulder, closing her eyes. Denki only rolled his eyes at her, gently brushing a strand of her hair to the side.

Slowly, Class 1-A gathered at the clearing, all still yawning and closing their eyes. Their sensei arrived not long after.

"Morning, sleepyheads. The real training begins today. In order to gain your Provisional Hero Licenses, I expect all of you to come out of this camp with better control of your Quirks, and a better understanding of the reality of being a pro hero." Aizawa started without the second wasted.

"Of course, there will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class." He stated, as most of his class were confused at his words, opening their half closed eyes to look at him clearly. He grinned at them.

"Good. Now that you're awake, let's get started shall we?" He then threw a ball at Sukuna who caught it nonchalantly.

"This is from the Quirk Apprehension Test..." Izuku whispered. Aizawa nodded, taking out a device.

"Last time, your record was 1.5 kilometers. I wonder how much you've grown since then?" Sukuna nodded as he stepped forward, the signature tattoos forming already. He threw the ball at full power, a sonic boom rang through the forest as he did. His classmates winced, all covering their eyes even though they stood far away.

Aizawa dug his ears as he stared at the device. "Well... I expected that much from you..." He muttered, showing it to Sukuna.

"4 kilometers..." Sukuna muttered, having almost tripled his record. He walked back to his group, who were now wide awake from the sonic boom.

"Undoubtedly, you've all grown from the start of the school year with your efforts, and I commend you for that. But I can surmise that some of your Quirks haven't kept up with the pace just yet. So for this morning we'll be working on improving your Quirks, after a short break we'll continue with some other drills." He declared before holding up a finger.

"Always keep in mind there are no limits to the power of your Quirks. So what are you waiting for? Get to work."

"Yes sensei!"

...

"So like we said, the pampering ended yesterday." Pixie Bob started as Class 1-A and 1-B gathered before her, looking worse for wear after all the training and rescue simulation drills in the forests. Ragdoll, another member of the Pussycats, the most energetic and unhinged one, grinned at them.

"That's why from now on, you'll be making it yourselves! And the menu today is curry rice!" She declared, before laughing loudly at their appearances.

"Bakugo. Momo." Sukuna called, stepping forward as his 'chef mode' activated. Bakugo and Momo, all dirty and tired from overusing their Quirks, tiredly glanced at him.

"Let's cook."

"Tch!" Bakugo scowled, stomping towards the ingredients gathered around the wooden table. He wasn't following Sukuna's orders, just to be clear. The sooner this was over with, the sooner he could get food in his stomach and rest.

'Wait. How the hell did he know I could cook?!' Bakugo paused for a moment, shouting in his mind.

"Oi! Don't leave us out and have all the fun!" Kirishima shouted, suddenly energized at the thought of being able to eat delicious curry. As eventually, everyone started joining in, assisting the trio of chefs.

"Yo Bakubro, you're really good at this!" Denki commented, watching as Bakugo skillfully sliced the carrot before him in the blink of an eye.

"I really shouldn't judge a book by its cover after this."

"The hell do you mean by that huh?!"

Sukuna grunted a little as he threw the carrot up high. Suddenly, they were all cut into even slices before the pink haired boy let them fall into a pot.

"How convenient for you..." Mina deadpanned at him, slicing the potato slowly. Sukuna glanced at her before he immediately rushed towards her.

"You're doing it wrong, Mina." He muttered, placing his hands on top of hers from behind.

"You do it like this..." Mina blushed at hearing his deep voice, getting flustered at his body touching her back, as he gently guided her on how to slice the potato correctly. Behind them, a few boys from Class 1-B, made loud vomit noises, while Bakugo joined in with them.

After an hour or so, the curry was finished, and everyone gathered around to dig in. Mina may or may not have demanded Sukuna to feed her. The pink haired boy obviously folded under zero pressure.

It wasn't bad, that is if they weren't supposed to cook for themselves every day until camp was over. But it didn't matter, Sukuna just made it count as a form of training.

On the night of the third day of their training camp, Pixie Bob announced that they would have a Test Of Courage. The rules were simple. The game will take place in the forest with Class 1-A being the scaring ground and Class 1-B will split up into pairs.

Class 1-B must walk into the forest and find a card with their names on it in order to prove they went into the forest while Class 1-A must frighten Class 1-B to run them out of the forest without their cards.

Class 1-A must not directly touch Class 1-B but both classes are permitted to use their Quirks as well as any scaring tactics, so long as they don't harm each other. After both classes have had turns in being the scaring group, the winner will be the class that not only scared more people but the class that was the most creative.

"Hehe! We're gonna scare the shit out of ya!" Mina declared, as she and her classmates entered the forest first to prepare. She glanced at Sukuna walking alone to a random direction, and skipped towards him, catching up with the pink haired boy.

"Hey love." She called. Sukuna glanced at her.

"So many nicknames for me today." He commented. Mina giggled.

"Well, I just wanna see your reaction." They walked alone in silence.

'Maybe this is the moment.' He thought to himself before stopping suddenly. Mina glanced at him curiously.

"Mina, do you remember the time we were shopping together, and you asked what was in that bag I was holding?" He asked. Mina hummed softly, rubbing her chin as she thought back to the day.

"You know... the one I said that it was an item my mom wanted?" Mina's eyes widened a little.

"Oh yeah, I think I do remember. What about it?" She asked. Sukuna sighed a little, moving his gaze to the dirt.

"I lied." He revealed.

"Oh..."

" It's actually... a gift for you..." He muttered, taking out a small hand sized box from his pocket. Mina widened her eyes, staring at it.

"I hope you like it." He whispered, opening the box to reveal two golden rings. Mina's eyes widened even more.

"Wh-wh-wh-what...." She was too stunned to speak.

" I'm not proposing to you or anything. We're wayyy to young to get married. It's just a friendship ring... And look, it has our names on it..." He smiled a little, pointing at the names engraved on the rings.

"W-wow..." An emotional Mina whispered, tears welling up. She looked up at him, lips quivering and pursing.

"These aren't real gold though... I'm sorry I'm not really good at this stuff—"

"Shh!" Mina placed a finger on his lips, shutting him up.

"I don't care about that, babe. It can be plastic for all I care. What I always see is your effort. And... I'm just so happy right now!" She laughed a little, wiping the tears from her eyes. Mina grabbed the ring with Sukuna's name on it, slipping it onto her ring finger.

She held it up, in awe at the ring shining under the moonlight. "I'm never taking this off..." She whispered. Sukuna smiled, sliding the ring with Mina's name on it through his ring finger. Mina went in and hugged him tightly, nuzzling her head onto his chest. The boy returned the gesture, placing his head on hers as he rubbed her back.

Their heads leaned back, as they stared into each other's eyes. The timing just felt so right. Both of them decided to do it. Then they leaned in closer, and closer, and closer, until—

"Sukuna!" Both of them jumped in shock, Mina glanced at the communication device on Sukuna's waist.

"Sukuna! Are you there?!" It was Momo's voice, and the way she called him made it sound urgent. Sukuna had his arm around Mina's waist as he picked up the device.

"What is it?" He asked.

"The League is here. And they're spreading poisonous gas around the area. I'm already working on the gas masks for our class and class 1-B." Momo reported. Mina widened her eyes in shock. Sukuna stared calmly at the device.

"Got it. Tell everyone to get their communication devices online and start wearing their earpieces. It's time to fight back."

"Already on it. And Sukuna..."

"What?"

"There's a Nomu near you and Mina. And it's targeting miss Ragdoll—"

"I'm on it. Get those gas masks on 1-B and our classmates, and report the location of each villain attacking."

"Got it. Be careful."

Sukuna ended the conversation before looking down at Mina.

"C'mon, Ragdoll sensei is in trouble." He muttered, his markings spreading around his face and hands. He rushed off, as a pouting Mina started running with him.

"Tch. Stupid League ruining my moment. I was about to get my first kiss!"

...

"Shit..." A bloody Ragdoll coughed non-stop as she knelt weakly on the ground, looking at the Nomu before her.

'I would've been dead by now. But why isn't it taking the killing blow?' She wondered to herself. The Nomu didn't have the mental capacity to 'play around', that much she knew. The only reason she had was that it was ordered to incapacitate her and take her.

The Nomu suddenly charged at Ragdoll, faster than she could react. It balled up its fist, ready to punch her again.

"Coming through!" She heard a familiar feminine voice shout, as a jet of acid rushed past her, puncturing the Nomu's shoulder. The arm fell off after being corroded by the deadly acid, before the rest of it's torso went through the same process.

Then, a pink blur rushed past her and the Nomu. She watched as it was sliced into thousands of pieces, before looking at Sukuna standing there unimpressed.

"Mina. Bring sensei to regroup with the others, Momo will guide you." Sukuna ordered.

"What are you going to do?" The pink girl asked, helping Ragdoll up. Sukuna silently wrapped a small red device around his wrist, as a hologram popped up, with multiple red and white dots on the floating screen.

"Dealing with the rest."

...

"From what my drones have gathered, one S-rank, multiple A-rank and some B-rank villains are here. Izuku is already dealing with one of them."

"Who?" Sukuna asked, a finger on his earpiece as he leaped from tree to tree.

"An A-rank villain named Muscular, responsible for the killing of the Hero Team Water Hose, Kota's parents."

"How is he faring?" Sukuna questioned, as Momo suddenly went silent.

"I—"

"Don't worry about me!" Sukuna heard Izuku's loud voice interrupt Momo. "I'll deal with him, you go help the others!" Izuku shouted. Sukuna only grunted, before disappearing in a blur.

"There are some who still haven't received the gas masks yet. Quickly deal with Mustard, Sukuna, or else his sleeping gas will spread through the whole forest. I've already marked the villain on your device. Go!"

A second later, Sukuna appeared right in front of a man who was wearing all black and a green gas mask.

"What the—AGHHH!!!!" The man screamed in agony as hundreds of invisibile cuts sliced him. Sukuna grabbed the man by the throat, staring down at him with his four eyes.

"What is your objective—" Sukuna widened his eyes, tilting his head to the side as Mustard fired a bullet from his revolver he pulled out of nowhere. Sukuna having dodged the bullet, mercilessly snapped Mustard's arms before grabbing the revolver.

"I said. What is your objective?" Sukuna repeated, bloodlust directed at the villain who trembled in fear.

"Answer me." Sukuna placed the barrel of the revolver near the man's helmet, as the villain screamed in horror.

"Kid-Kidnap..."

"Better be precise!" Sukuna's eyes narrowed. The villain screamed louder, hearing the revolver's cylinder spin.

"It's you! You're the target! Just please! Spare me!" Mustard screamed, tears flowing down his eyes as he begged for mercy. Sukuna grinned.

"Good." He muttered before slamming the butt of the revolver down on the man's helmet, shattering it, knocking the man unconscious with it. He threw the man away, before shattering the revolver with a stomp.

Switching to a private channel, he placed a finger on his earpiece again as the purple gas started to disperse.

"Momo, our theory was correct as expected... We will start Operation Kingfall as planned." It was quiet for just a moment, before Sukuna received the silent reply he had been waiting for.

"Roger that..."

To be continued.....

(Yeah I know, cringe operation name. The idea is that the "king" (Sukuna) falls intentionally so the enemy believes they've won the board. Only later do they realize the trap.)
