Chapter 20 - Nobody's Gambit

"AAAAAAAAA!!!"

It was a truly soul-rending scream — the kind you'd expect from someone being torn apart alive.

"..." His eye began to twitch again.

This scene was the worst he had ever seen. He had never encountered such bloody cruelty, even in horror movies. He could only stare, his mind utterly blank.

Ryskar bit into her collarbone and chewed his way toward her heart, grinding everything in his path to pulp. Skin, pieces of bone, muscle, and blood... All of it flew rapidly around the area, like grass caught in a lawnmower.

"AAAAAAAAAAH!" The woman continued to scream in pain, trying to unleash her explosive energy at the beast.

However, it was futile. Ryskar was in terrible condition, yet his armor was on a completely different level. The dark purple energy only sparked fruitlessly as it collided with the predator's metal body.

"AAAAAH..."

Soon, the meat grinder in the predator's mouth severed her vocal cords, and the woman could no longer scream.

Her body was still twitching, hinting that she was alive, but in general, it was all over.

The fountain of blood did not stop for a second.

...

He knew it from the very beginning.

'There is no way out... It will find me anywhere. It will get me even in hell.'

He accepted the situation surprisingly easily. Perhaps it was an adaptation to endless hell and danger, or perhaps something else.

His sworn enemy not only faced a danger greater than his own but also tracked him down. However, what else could be expected from such a monster?

"..." While Ryskar finished with the woman, he searched the area for his hook.

Unfortunately, he couldn't find it.

He was forced to face the arrival of his worst nightmare with only one bullet in his revolver and a broken sword.

"..." Ryskar ripped out the woman's heart, a bit into it, and then licked the blood. Now his entire face was smeared with the true color.

There was no way out, which meant...

'Everything must end right here... That's how it has to be.'

Strange as it may seem, this thought made the corners of his lips rise slightly. Madness, no doubt.

But it wasn't because of the joy of his probable demise, as he might have thought, but because of the heat and anticipation that crept into his heart. The blood in his veins began to boil again.

He was about to do the impossible — become the man who slew the monster. The price and consequences didn't matter.

He was going to end it all here and now.

"..." He silently moved the sticky slider on the revolver to the maximum position.

It was as if the appearance of his nemesis had stripped away his control, his coldness, and the last remnants of his apathy. Now he was fired up again.

The clash with the horned creature had gone badly for Ryskar. In addition to an early eye injury and dents in his body, one of his front paws had been completely torn off.

The predator stood directly on the woman's body, torn open to the heart.

Notably, his future victim also had one arm mangled, and her overall condition was more than battered.

And he, too, stood over the bloody remains of the one who considered him nothing more than a victim.

"This is what you wanted so badly. I'm right here, kitty, so what are you waiting for?!" he shouted.

"Rrrrr..." The beast growled piercingly, looking at the man who was looking back at the cliff.

Wires and mangled parts protruded from his torn steel paw. But the most remarkable thing was the red light shining from inside his chest. Most likely, it was something like Ryskar's heart or main core.

He didn't know if the revolver's maximum power could penetrate the heart, but it was something. However, from this angle, it was impossible to hit the area where the Ryskar's paw had been torn off and aim the shot at the monster's heart.

Thinking about this, the simple man took a step forward, straight towards the true predator.

His heart began to pound.

"I'm right here, kitty! Come to me, and I'll show you what real damn punk rock looks like!!!" He broke into a run and replaced his revolver with a broken sword.

"…?!" Something flashed in Ryskar's eyes.

The predator stared at the blade, which so closely resembled the one that had taken his eye.

His only eye flashed a fierce red.

"RRRWAAA!!!" the creature roared angrily and pushed off the ground with its paws.

"Yeah, kitty! Let's rip each other's hearts out and die together!!!"

He threw the blade at the enraged Ryskar and quickly turned around.

His jaws crushed the broken blade in an instant, but he didn't see it.

With all his might, he ran straight towards the cliff.

Who would have thought that, waking up in a dirty pit surrounded by maggots, he would meet such a... beautiful end.

The azure sea. The midday sun. The embrace of danger. The pounding of his heart... And the indescribable feeling of flight.

"You know, I always wanted to tell you..." he thought, turning on his toes right at the edge of the cliff.

"RRAAAH!!!"

Ryskar's paws sent the mechanical body leaping, and his bloody mouth opened, anticipating the taste of his victim's flesh.

"GO TO HELL!!!" He shouted, giving it the middle finger and taking a step back.

He stepped straight into the void, accelerating his body downward.

In an instant, he was flying, and the body of the beast, ready to devour him, jumped after him. They were so close that they were almost embracing each other.

And who would have thought, but right now a smile was shining on his face.

Then he stretched his useless arm with broken fingers straight towards Ryskar's muzzle. As if waving a carrot in front of a rabbit.

"RAWCHCH!!!"

The whirring grinder within its maw instantly sank into his arm.

It was unpleasant... No, it was horribly painful.

The force of gravity began to pull them down.

"..." But despite everything, he bit his cheek and managed not to scream.

And still, he smiled…

And then he approached the monster that was devouring him. Cold metal brushed against his face, his chest, every inch of him.

Truly intimate closeness.

"I'm glad you're going to die without ever getting your fill..." he whispered through clenched teeth into the predator's ear.

*Click* His left hand cocked the revolver, pressed against the monster's weak point...

*BOOOM!!!* The shot roared like a bomb going off.

The embrace of the monster and the man was forcibly broken by the recoil.

The man was thrown straight into the rock, and the mechanical monster into the space above the open sea.

"..."

He was flying.

He didn't care about the pain or the terrible condition of his own hands.

In those seconds, he looked at his sworn enemy, whose chest was pierced by a huge hole. He saw a red mechanical heart, half of which had been blown away by his shot.

At that very moment, Ryskar's face expressed shock, complete disbelief in what was happening, pain... and the realization that he had been struck down by his own prey. Along with all this, he looked at the lamb he would now never claim.

This brought a foolish smile to the face of the man flying straight to his death.

"Idio…"

*Thud!* His head hit something hard, his consciousness darkened, and the world never heard his final comment.
