I stared at the files for a long moment before setting them aside. "Keep investigating. I have nothing to do with these men directly, but there has to be a reason they came after me." Something primal stirred under my skin as I said it, that deep instinct that never let a threat go unanswered.
Marcus nodded, pausing briefly before adding, "Ashton is looking into it too."
"It involves his child, so of course he is." The words came out with a sharp edge I didn't bother softening.
"Let's go. What do you want to eat?" he asked, already reaching for his car keys.
I stood and rolled my shoulders. "Anything is fine."
We stepped into the elevator, and as the doors slid shut, he said, "You're using HiTech as leverage to go up against the Moore pack through White Corporation, aren't you?"
I smiled. "I can't believe you caught that. Are you going to try and stop me?"
