Night fell over the ocean, finally bringing an end to the chaotic weather.
The rough, violent waves from the afternoon had smoothed out into a glassy, rolling calm. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a long silver reflection across the dark water.
Inside the cabin, Kenji lay on his bunk, staring at the steel ceiling overhead. Sleep refused to come. The ship pitched relentlessly with the waves, rocking him from side to side, while the cramped quarters seemed to shrink around him with every passing hour.
He threw off his blanket and decided to get some fresh air.
Stepping out onto the upper deck, the salty ocean breeze hit him. It was quiet. The crew was asleep, and the ship hummed with the steady vibration of its engines.
He wasn't the only one awake.

Standing near the edge of the ship, leaning heavily against the wooden railing, was Yukie Fujikaze.
She wasn't wearing her lavish fur coats or her arrogant movie star persona. She just wore a simple, loose silk robe that fluttered in the sea breeze. She was staring out at the dark horizon, completely lost in thought. She looked small. Vulnerable.
Kenji walked across the wooden deck, his footsteps deliberately light but not entirely silent.
"Couldn't sleep?" Kenji asked, stopping a few feet away.
Yukie flinched slightly, pulled from her thoughts. She turned her head, her dark eyes narrowing when she saw him.
"Go away, brat," she said, her voice lacking its usual fiery bite. "I am not in the mood to quarrel with you tonight."
"Then our opinions match," Kenji said smoothly.
He didn't leave. He stepped right up to the railing, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the famous actress. He leaned his forearms on the wood, looking out at the exact same patch of dark water she was staring at.
They stood in silence for a long minute. The only sound was the hull cutting through the waves.
"Why are you so opposed to going to the Land of Snow?" Kenji finally asked, breaking the quiet. "And don't give me that nonsense about the weather. It doesn't seem like you're just complaining about the cold."
Yukie looked away, her grip on the wooden railing tightening.
"Does the reason even matter?" she muttered bitterly. "You Konoha thugs dragged me onto this ship either way. I'm just a prisoner with a filming schedule."
"We're escorts," Kenji corrected softly.
He didn't push aggressively. Instead, he triggered a skill.
[Passive Skill: Pheromone Release (Medium) - Active]
He dialed the intent back. He didn't flood the air with raw, aggressive lust. Instead, he let a warm, soothing, masculine scent drift into the sea breeze. It was the scent of safety. Of a protector.
"Being a ninja isn't just about dragging people around," Kenji said, his voice calm and conversational. "We take jobs. We face things that scare normal people. A few months ago, my team fought a demon with a giant sword in the Land of Waves. That was supposed to be a simple escort mission too. But it turned out the employer had lied about the details to save some money. We met S-Rank rogue ninjas there. We bled. We almost died. But we stood our ground."
Yukie glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. The soothing pheromones were working. Her tense shoulders slowly began to drop.
"You've... fought real demons?" she asked quietly.
"Real ones," Kenji nodded, turning his head to look at her. "Men who kill for money. Men who rule through fear. It's an ugly world, Princess. Everyone is running from something. Ninjas run from their pasts. You're running from the snow."
Yukie stayed silent for a long time. The sea breeze whipped her dark hair around her face.
Then, surprisingly, she let out a tired sigh.
"It's exhausting," Yukie whispered.
"What is?"
"Being Princess Gale," she admitted, her voice hollow. "Everyone looks at me and sees a hero. A movie star. They want autographs. They want a piece of the fantasy. But none of them actually care about Yukie Fujikaze. They just want the mask I wear."
"Masks are heavy," Kenji agreed, turning his head to look at her profile. "In my village, people wear masks every day. Some wear porcelain ones. Some just wear fake smiles to hide how messed up they are inside. It burns you out."
Yukie looked at him, genuinely surprised by his depth.
For the next half hour, they just talked.
Kenji shared some of the ridiculous, mundane realities of being a ninja. He talked about the D-Rank missions, chasing demon cats, and dealing with arrogant clients. Yukie, her guard completely lowered by his pheromones and his surprisingly mature demeanor, shared the nightmares of her production schedules, the fake smiles of directors, and the suffocating pressure of being a public idol.
The silence between them stopped being tense. It became comfortable.
A cold gust of wind suddenly swept across the open deck. Yukie shivered, wrapping her arms around her silk robe to preserve her body heat.
It was time.
Kenji stepped directly into her personal space.
He didn't ask. He simply raised his right hand and rested it firmly on her waist.
Yukie's breath hitched. But under the prolonged influence of the subtle pheromones and the genuine, grounding conversation they had just shared, her walls didn't go back up.
She didn't push him away. She actually relaxed, her body naturally leaning a fraction of an inch toward his radiating, intense body heat.
Kenji slid his large hand slightly lower. He let it rest heavily on her hip, right at the top curve of her ass. He squeezed her firm flesh just a little bit, establishing a heavy physical dominance without breaking the calm mood of the night.
"Don't worry," Kenji said, his voice a low, confident rumble. He looked directly into her dark, vulnerable eyes. "Whatever you are afraid of... or whoever you are afraid of in that ice... I will get rid of them."
Yukie stared at him. Her heart hammered against her ribs. She was completely captivated by his raw, unwavering confidence.
Kenji leaned in. He pressed his lips firmly against hers.
For a few seconds, Yukie completely melted. She closed her eyes, her lips parting slightly to accept his kiss, her hands coming up to rest hesitantly on his broad chest. The taste of the salt air mixed perfectly with the heat of his mouth.
Then, her brain caught up with her body.
Yukie gasped, her eyes snapping open. She pushed her hands hard against his chest, breaking the kiss and stumbling back a step. Her face was entirely flushed, a deep, glowing red visible even in the moonlight.
"D-Don't think you can just sweet-talk me!" she stammered, her chest heaving as she pulled her robe tightly together.
Kenji just smirked, letting his hand fall back to his side, completely unbothered.
"I am still angry at you!" Yukie pointed a shaking finger at him, desperately trying to summon her diva anger to mask how aroused she actually was. "You dared to spank me at that tavern! In front of everyone! I haven't forgotten that!"
She didn't wait for him to reply. She spun around and practically sprinted across the deck, fleeing back to her VIP cabin before she completely surrendered to him.
Kenji watched her run, his eyes lingering unapologetically on her swaying hips.

He clicked his tongue, a satisfied grin on his face. "Almost. Just a little more pushing and the ice shatters completely."
Stretching his arms over his head, Kenji turned and headed back inside to finally get some sleep.
High above the deck, hidden completely in the shadows of the ship's crow's nest, a masked figure sat perched on a wooden beam.
Kakashi Hatake slowly lowered his orange book. He had watched the entire half-hour exchange unfold in high definition.
He let out a long, exasperated sigh, shaking his head slowly in the darkness.
This brat is an absolute player, Kakashi thought, aggressively rubbing his temples. He actually sat there and played therapist to a hostile client just to get into her pants. At such a young age, he's such a menace... what the hell is he going to do when he actually grows up?
Kakashi opened his book again, deciding he definitely did not get paid enough to parent Kenji Sato.
