Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Night-Blood Pendant

Inside the blue chest lay a golden crystal, glittering and translucent. Javelin recognized it at once: a blue-grade azure crystal, the breakthrough item that could raise a Ship Girl to purple-rated.

It held gentle Ship Qi and could also heal; blue-grade azure crystals only worked on Ship Girls below purple rating—Epic Ship Girls needed an azure crystal core.

Speaking of chests, their tiers matter: white, blue, purple, and gold.

Blue-grade Azure Island chests differ from gold-grade ones in the odds of rare loot—5 % versus 20 %.

The possible haul: 95 % chance for fuel, steel, aluminium, ammo, and supplies; 5 % for ship devices, skills, azure crystals, or moon spirit grass.

Defeating Abyssal Warships in their lairs only yields up to purple chests. Gold chests drop only from an Abyssal Princess, and only if you dealt at least 10 % of the damage. Killing one guarantees every Ship Girl a purple chest.

Abyssal Princess chests have bad-luck protection: if a gold chest yields no rare item, you still get one of Heavy-Floor-grade ship device, King-grade skill, or blue-grade azure crystal core. For purple chests the safety net is Zero-Floor-grade ship device, Spirit-grade skill, or gold-grade azure crystal.

Many Admirals aim to "leech" those chests—join the fight, do no damage, and still claim a guaranteed purple chest per kill. That easy loot is why most Admirals send Ship Girls into Azure Island; without rich rewards, who'd risk it?

The crystal was useless to Javelin herself—she was already purple-rated—but someone back at the Naval Base could use it.

She stowed the blue-grade azure crystal in her rigging space and charged at more Abyssal Warships for more chests.

Ayanami swung her ship-slaying sword and lopped the head off an Abyssal Battleship with a single slash. Blood spurted, the hull exploded, and it sank.

A purple chest popped up. Expressionless, Ayanami cracked it open and found a red crystal pendant. Its data flowed into her mind.

Device: Night-Blood Pendant

Tier: Hundred-Sight

Effect: Future Reversion

Function: Rewind time by 24 hours; triggers on death.

Note: One use shortens lifespan by 10 years.

She blinked—an ultra-rare Hundred-Sight device! The 10-year cost meant nothing; Ship Girls are immortal unless slain.

She hung the pendant round her neck, ready to slit her own throat with the ship-slaying sword if she ever needed a do-over.

Pendant secured, Ayanami went hunting for more Abyssal Warships—she was starting to enjoy the loot.

Boom! Illustrious slapped an Abyssal Destroyer that had tried to swallow her, crushing it in a single strike.

Dido gaped—Illustrious had no weapon in hand. One barehanded kill was something only a Three-Star Epic Ship Girl or higher could manage.

Yet Illustrious was only a Gold-Plated Ship Girl. Had she hidden her strength? Maybe she wore a device that masked her level.

That had to be it—she was hiding, ready to play the mantis stalking the cicada. Once everyone else was exhausted, she'd reveal her Epic might, rob them of every prize, and kill whoever resisted.

What a vicious woman! Dido resolved to conserve strength—otherwise she might never see her Admiral again.

The Destroyer exploded, leaving a blue chest behind. Without hesitation Illustrious opened it.

Inside the chest was an ordinary pair of pink spectacles; the instant Illustrious lifted them, every detail of the plain-looking glasses flashed through her mind.

ship device: Clothes-Be-Gone Glasses

Grade: Heavy-Class

Effect: X-ray Vision

Function: Ignores fabric, revealing the naked truth of any body. No strength can block it—a genuine all-seeing wonder, unique in all the world.

Note: Only honesty breeds trust. Shyness wins no respect, so banish guilt and peek to your heart's content!

Holy cow! What a device! Illustrious wanted to give it a huge thumbs-up. Slipping the Clothes-Be-Gone Glasses on, she couldn't wait to test their magic—and aimed them straight at Dido.

Good heavens! She saw Dido in the nude—an exquisite vision: willowy waist, full breasts, perfect curves; the words 'voluptuous' and 'stunning' weren't praise enough. Illustrious nearly had a nosebleed.

She just managed to rein herself in with iron will.

Noticing the pink spectacles and Illustrious's crimson cheeks, Dido stepped closer. "Hey, are you all right? Why's your face so red?"

The nearer Dido came, the redder Illustrious turned; up close the view through the glasses was even more breathtaking. Her heart screamed, 'Awei, get out here and die with me!'

'It must be those glasses,' Dido thought, and reached out. "Illustrious, those specs look adorable—mind if I try them?"
