Chapter 41 - The Balcony, The Breach, and The Silent Sinner

The Summer Estate was architecturally designed for sin.

Kaia realized this the moment she was shown to her bedchamber in the East Wing. It was a sprawling room decorated in pale greens and golds, but its most dangerous feature was the wide set of French doors leading out to a curved stone balcony.

The balcony overlooked the terraced gardens and the glittering, moonlit expanse of Lake Serenity. And, just as Aeron had promised, the balustrade was separated from the adjoining guest suite by a gap of barely three feet.

It was an invitation for disaster.

At midnight, the air coming off the lake was thick, humid, and heavy with the scent of night-blooming jasmine. Kaia stood by the open doors, wearing a sheer, pearl-white nightgown. She couldn't sleep. Her body was still humming with the residual adrenaline of the courtyard performance, and the memory of Aeron bending solid iron with his bare hand was playing on a loop in her mind.

A soft thud sounded from the stone terrace outside.
