Under Irene's command, the first batch of carefully selected seeds was sent into this warm 'greenhouse'.
The core position was reserved for winter wheat, as well as the peas, broad beans, and lentils that Irene had strongly recommended. These legumes would not only produce a high yield and provide protein but could also improve the soil.
The cabbage, carrots, onions, and garlic that had been swiped from the Orr Palace also settled into their new homes.
Sophia walked up to the basket of carrot seeds and casually grabbed a handful. In this era, the carrots grown were not the bright orange ones common in her past life, but rather possessed a weird deep purple and dark yellow hue. Their roots were not only short and small, but their texture was also as hard as wood.
Tsk, this stuff would probably only be used as animal feed in my previous life, but in Mason, this is already a remarkable source of vitamins.
Once life gets better later on, I'll have to let Irene try hybrid breeding to improve these purple wooden sticks into crunchy orange carrots.
Sophia dusted the soil off her hands, watching the workers under Irene's guidance meticulously bury every single seed into the black soil that emitted heat.
"Your Majesty, all sowing is complete," Victor said, wiping the sweat from his forehead. Even though the autumn wind was rustling outside, staying in this greenhouse for just a short while made one feel hot all over.
"Very good." Sophia looked at this indoor field full of vitality and nodded with satisfaction. "This is not just a greenhouse; this is the granary and hope of the Kingdom of Mason. Guard this fire well. This Queen wants to see green seedlings emerging before the snow falls."
Compared to Irene, who was researching enthusiastically and only knew invention, and Delilah, who was busy moving things, Princess Vasha appeared somewhat out of place. She stood in a corner of the greenhouse, watching this group of people operate with the precision of a machine under the command of a sixteen-year-old girl.
Irene had inventions that could make steel roar and turn cold winter back into warmth. Daphne had magic that could heal wounds and bring the dead back to life. Delilah possessed superior martial arts and immense strength. Even Willow could manage the entire Inner Palace without a single leak.
"What about me?"
Vasha looked down at her own palms, which were fair but possessed no special power. In the Kingdom of Orr, she was a noble tool used for marriage alliances. Coming to Mason, she had wanted to unfold a grand plan, but everyone here was excellent to the point of being god-like. That anxiety of 'I am good for nothing except eating and sleeping' finally reached its peak after witnessing the Divine Miracle of the greenhouse.
Late at night, inside the side hall of the Mason Palace, oil lamps flickered.
Sophia was paralyzed on a chair, eyes closed, enjoying a shoulder massage from Willow. Just as she was about to fall asleep, Vasha's voice, soft but carrying a trace of trembling, came from outside the door.
"Your Majesty, Vasha requests an audience."
Sophia opened her eyes, a trace of confusion flitting across her pale golden pupils. What time is it? Could it be that the First Princess isn't used to living in Mason and wants to go back to Orr?
Moments later, Vasha walked in. She was not wearing that magnificent Orr formal dress, but had changed into a simple, elegant linen long skirt, her entire person appearing thin and fragile.
"Your Majesty..." Vasha suddenly knelt at Sophia's feet, her voice containing suppressed sobs. "Vasha is dull-witted. I watched Miss Irene reshape the seasons, and watched Daphne display Divine Miracles. But I, aside from that shallow noble etiquette, know nothing at all. Can I really find a place in the Kingdom of Mason? Or is it that I can only be an exquisite piece of art, a useless flower vase?"
She seemed to have no strengths other than beauty, status, and etiquette. In the Royal House, she was noble and respected. But in Mason, stripped of her princess identity, she was not even as efficient and thoughtful as Willow.
Sophia looked at this princess who had broken down late at night and sighed slightly. This is probably the consequence of stepping out of one's comfort zone. She had anticipated that Vasha would break down eventually, but she hadn't expected it to happen so fast. The reason she hadn't planned to bring Vasha along initially was because of the accident that was Daphne.
She waved her hand, signaling Willow, whose expression was not very good, to withdraw first. Then she propped up her body, her gaze looking straight at Vasha.
Sigh, this kind of new employee psychological counseling is the most troublesome. I don't have any great wisdom either; I can only bring out that HR set from my previous life to bluff a bit.
"Vasha." Sophia's voice remained cold, yet it carried a weight that allowed no doubt. "Do you think that for a kingdom, the most important things are those glowing magics or the muskets that can explode?"
Vasha froze, stammering, "Is that not so?"
"Wrong." Sophia stood up and slowly walked to the window, turning her back to Vasha. "If the Kingdom of Mason is a machine, Irene is the parts, and Daphne is the lubricant. And you, Vasha, you are the hand that controls the switch."
Sophia turned around, her tone steady. "This Queen does not need you to go into battle to kill enemies, nor do I need you to sit in a laboratory and get blown up until you're black. What This Queen needs is your understanding of the powerful figures of various countries. Why not try doing things that don't require excessive physical strength or special Divine Miracles?"
"For example, managing commerce or learning accounting. If This Queen remembers correctly, you are very patient and possess an orderliness capable of integrating complex affairs. On this land that is still savage, establishing the rules of civilization is far more difficult than manufacturing a gun."
Sophia pointed casually. "You can try to clear up the consumption accounts of those 'greenhouses', and make a comparison report on the seed output of the Kingdom of Orr. If you can make every single one of This Queen's gold coins be spent where it matters most, then you are This Queen's assistant to the Prime Minister."
Vasha raised her head, looking at that young girl under the moonlight who resembled a god.
Order capable of integrating complex affairs.
Establishing the rules of civilization...
In that instant, Sophia's plain workplace guidance was instantly deified in Vasha's heart!
"I understand!" Vasha's eyes turned from confusion to fanatical shock.
Her Majesty brought me back not as an accessory to Daphne at all! She wants me to jump out of simple power struggles and participate in that grander cause, to reconstruct the order of the world!
No wonder, no wonder she dared to challenge other kings in public; no wonder she dares to think and act! So Her Majesty actually intends to achieve such great feats later?
Irene and the others are merely the sword and medicine in Her Majesty's hands, but Her Majesty actually wants to cultivate me into the cornerstone of internal affairs for this new world! Such trust, such a grand vision that transcends bloodlines and national feuds—is this the true face of Truth?!
She actually trusts me this much; such trust is an honor that even those who have been by Her Majesty's side for a long time don't have, right?
Vasha heavily knocked her head on the floor in a kowtow, her voice hoarse from excitement. "Vasha understands! Thank you, Your Majesty, for your guidance! From this day forth, Vasha shall be the sharpest Pen of Order in Your Majesty's hand! I will definitely study how to manage trade well and calculate the destination of every single grain for the Kingdom of Mason!"
Watching Vasha rush out of the room to work overtime as if injected with chicken blood, Sophia was a bit bewildered.
I just said two sentences telling you to be an accountant; why are you acting like you're going to save the world?
Forget it, as long as she doesn't keep crying.
