**DAY 6 - MORNING (5:00 AM)**
Arjun's alarm didn't go off.
It never went off anymore.
He woke naturally at 4:47 AM, his internal clock synced to the System's demands like a prisoner learning the rhythm of his chains.
He lay in his bunk for a moment, staring at the ceiling in the dark.
His roommates were still asleep. Karan snored softly below him. Dev mumbled something about "flame coefficients" in his sleep. Aarav was perfectly still, like always.
Arjun pulled up his Status screen.
**[HOST STATUS - DAY 6]**

**[DAYS UNTIL AFFORDABLE: 3 (if all daily quests completed perfectly)]**
Three more days.
Arjun could do three more days.
He had to.
He climbed down from his bunk as quietly as possible, grabbed his training clothes, and slipped out of the room.
The hallway was empty. Most students didn't wake until 5:30.
But Arjun needed the extra time.
The System's daily quests reset at midnight, and he'd learned the hard way that completing them early meant less risk of failure.
He walked to Training Field Beta—the smallest of the five fields, usually empty at this hour.
The morning air was cold. His breath misted in the pre-dawn darkness.
He dropped into push-up position.
**[DAILY QUEST: MORNING TRAINING]**
**Complete:**
- 50 push-ups
- 50 sit-ups
- 2-kilometer run
**Reward: +1 STR, +1 STA, 10 SP, 35 XP**
**Failure Penalty: -5 HP, -10 SP**
**Time Remaining: 2 hours**
He started.
One.
Two.
Three.
His arms burned.
Ten.
Fifteen.
Twenty.
His muscles screamed.
Thirty.
Forty.
Just ten more. Just ten more. Just—
Fifty.
He collapsed, gasping.
**[PUSH-UPS: COMPLETE]**
Sit-ups next.
He forced himself upright and began.
One. Two. Five. Ten. Twenty.
By forty, his abs felt like they were tearing.
By fifty, he couldn't feel his core at all.
**[SIT-UPS: COMPLETE]**
Finally, the run.
He stood on shaking legs and started jogging around the field perimeter.
Two kilometers. Eight laps.
Lap one: His lungs burned.
Lap three: His legs felt like lead.
Lap five: He wanted to stop. To just collapse and let the penalty hit.
No. I need that SP. I need to survive.
Lap eight.
Done.
He collapsed on the grass, chest heaving.
**[MORNING TRAINING: COMPLETE]**
**[REWARDS GRANTED]**
- STR: 19 → 20
- STA: 17 → 18
- +10 SP (Total: 65 SP)
- +35 XP (Total: 213/500 XP)
The changes rippled through his body immediately.
His muscles felt denser. Stronger.
His breathing steadied faster than yesterday.
It's working. The System is actually working, Arjun thought as he lay on the grass for five minutes, watching the sky lighten from black to deep purple.
Then he stood and walked back to the dorms.
He had two more quests to complete today.
And two more days after this.
**6:45 AM - CAFETERIA**
By the time Arjun reached the cafeteria, Squad 9 was already at their usual table.
Raj had somehow acquired actual eggs—not the synthetic paste, but real scrambled eggs—and was distributing them like a drug dealer.
"Where did you get those?" Nikhil hissed, looking around nervously.
"Don't ask questions you don't want answered," Raj said quietly, sliding a portion onto Nikhil's tray.
"I'm asking," Nikhil insisted.
"And I'm not answering," Raj replied with a slight smile.
Anika grabbed her portion without comment. She'd stopped questioning Raj's black-market operations on Day 3.
Arjun sat down, and Raj immediately pushed eggs onto his tray.
"Eat. You look like death," Raj ordered firmly.
"Thanks," Arjun muttered.
"I'm serious. You've lost weight. Your face is thinner," Raj observed with concern.
Arjun had lost weight. Three kilograms in six days. The System's brutal training regimen was reshaping his body whether he liked it or not.
"I'm fine," Arjun said, shoveling eggs into his mouth.
They were incredible. Fluffy. Buttery. Nothing like the cafeteria's gray protein paste.
"Raj, if you ever stop cooking, I'm dropping out of Base 1," Sameer said with complete sincerity.
"Noted," Raj acknowledged.
Anika was staring at Arjun again.
She'd been doing that a lot lately.
"What?" Arjun asked, meeting her gaze.
"You're hiding something," Anika stated flatly.
"I'm not—" Arjun began.
"You wake up at 4:45 every morning. You skip social events. You look exhausted twenty-four-seven. And yesterday, I saw you staring at empty air for ten minutes like you were reading something invisible," Anika interrupted, ticking off points on her fingers.
Shit. She noticed the Status screens, Arjun realized with growing alarm.
"I'm just training extra," Arjun said carefully, keeping his voice neutral.
"Why?" Anika demanded.
"Because I'm weak. You saw the tournament. Vikram destroyed me. If I want to survive Green Portal expeditions, I need to get stronger," Arjun explained.
It wasn't a lie.
It just wasn't the whole truth.
Anika's eyes narrowed, but before she could press further, Nikhil interrupted.
"Hey, did you guys hear? We're getting our Beast Weapons today!" Nikhil announced excitedly.
That got everyone's attention.
"Today? I thought it was next week," Sameer said, surprised.
"Schedule changed. Master Desai sent a message this morning. Weapon requisitions are being distributed after morning classes. We pick them up at the Armory at 14:00," Nikhil explained.
Raj grinned widely. "Finally. I've been waiting for this."
"What are you getting?" Anika asked him.
"Gauntlets. Stone-reinforced. Perfect for a tank," Raj answered with satisfaction.
"I'm getting a staff. Support mage life," Nikhil declared.
"Bow. Flaming arrows," Sameer added with enthusiasm.
They all looked at Arjun expectantly.
"Gauntlets. Same as Anika," Arjun stated.
"Why gauntlets? You're a ranged fighter. Wouldn't a sword or bow make more sense?" Nikhil questioned.
"Gauntlets are versatile. I can channel Bolt through them for close-range shocks, or use them defensively if an enemy gets too close," Arjun explained.
And they work for Void techniques too. Dimensional cuts from my fists. Spatial grabs. But I can't tell you that, he thought but did not say.
"Fair enough," Nikhil accepted.
They finished breakfast and headed to class.
**8:00 AM - CLASSROOM 14**
Master Desai was already at the front of the room when they arrived.
Today's topic was written on the holographic board:
**AFFINITY FUSION: COMBINING ELEMENTS FOR DEVASTATING EFFECTS**
The class settled into their seats.
Desai waited for silence, then began.
"Today, we discuss the difference between a good mage and a great mage. That difference is fusion," Desai announced, his voice carrying clearly through the room.
He pulled up a holographic diagram showing two Cores—one red for Flame, one silver for Gale—merging their Aether streams.
"Affinity Fusion is the art of combining two or more affinities into a single technique. The result is exponentially more powerful than using each affinity separately," Desai explained carefully.
He gestured at the diagram with his scarred hand.
"For example: A Flame mage can create fire. A Gale mage can create wind. But a mage with both affinities can create a firestorm—a tornado of flame that incinerates everything in a hundred-meter radius," Desai illustrated.
The class leaned forward with keen interest.
"However," Desai continued, his tone darkening significantly, "fusion is extremely difficult. It requires perfect synchronization between your Cores. If you lose control, the Aether backfires and you die. Painfully."
He pulled up a video file.
It showed a training field. A student—maybe nineteen years old—standing in the center, hands raised confidently.
Fire in one hand. Water in the other.
He brought them together, attempting fusion.
For a second, steam began to form promisingly.
Then the Aether destabilized catastrophically.
The explosion was instantaneous and brutal.
The student's body was torn apart before he could scream.
The video cut to black abruptly.
The classroom was dead silent.
"That was what happens when fusion fails. The student's name was Arjun Malhotra. He was a Second Year. Dual affinity: Flame and Aqua. He attempted steam fusion without proper training," Desai said quietly, letting the horror sink in.
He paused deliberately.
"Fusion is not something you experiment with casually. You train for months under supervision. You start with the absolute basics. And you accept that failure means death," Desai stated with absolute seriousness.
A girl raised her hand tentatively. "Are there safe fusions? Like, easier combinations?" she asked nervously.
"Yes. Some affinities have natural compatibility," Desai confirmed, pulling up a new chart.
---
### **FUSION COMPATIBILITY CHART**
**EASY FUSIONS (Novice-tier can attempt with supervision):**
**Terra + Aqua = Mud Control**
- Mix earth and water
- Create quicksand, mud walls, swamp terrain
- Low risk of backfire
**Flame + Gale = Fire Enhancement**
- Wind feeds flames, increases heat and spread
- Does NOT create firestorm (that's Adept-level)
- Moderate risk
**Bolt + Aqua = Electrified Water**
- Conduct electricity through water
- Stun enemies, create electric fields
- Moderate risk (can shock yourself)
**Terra + Gale = Sandstorm / Dust Cloud**
- Combine earth particles with wind
- Create obscuring clouds, erosion attacks
- Low risk
---
**DIFFICULT FUSIONS (Adept-tier minimum):**
**Flame + Terra = Lava / Magma**
- Melt earth into molten rock
- Extremely destructive
- High Aether cost
**Frost + Aqua = Ice Mastery**
- Perfect ice control, freeze oceans
- Requires precise temperature management
- High risk of frostbite (self-damage)
**Bolt + Gale = Storm Calling**
- Create thunderstorms, lightning-infused wind
- Devastating area-of-effect
- Very high Aether cost
---
**MASTER-TIER FUSIONS (Do NOT attempt):**
**Flame + Frost = Temperature Annihilation**
- Simultaneous heat and cold, creates explosive pressure
- Usually kills the caster
**Void + Anything = Dimensional Chaos**
- Unpredictable, reality-warping effects
- Forbidden in most training environments
**Psyche + Any Element = Elemental Mind Control**
- Force enemies to hurt themselves with their own magic
- Illegal under international law
---
Desai closed the chart with a gesture.
"For those of you with dual affinities, you will begin basic fusion training in Month 3. Do NOT attempt it before then. I don't want to scrape anyone off the training field," Desai warned sternly, looking directly at Anika and a few others.
Anika raised her hand immediately.
"Yes, Cadet Rathore?" Desai acknowledged.
"Terra and Gale. What's the optimal fusion for combat?" Anika asked with focused intensity.
"Sandstorm in the short term. At Adept-tier, you can learn Dust Blade—wind-compressed earth that cuts like a sword. At Master-tier, Earthen Tornado—combine your affinities into a rotating pillar of stone and wind," Desai outlined methodically.
Anika's eyes gleamed with ambition. "How long until I can do that?" she asked eagerly.
"Sandstorm? Six months. Dust Blade? Two years. Earthen Tornado? Five years minimum," Desai answered honestly.
"I'll do it in three," Anika declared with confidence.
Desai smiled slightly. "I believe you," he said with a hint of approval.
---
Vikram Sehgal raised his hand from the front row.
"Yes, Cadet Sehgal?" Desai called on him.
"Flame and Terra. What's my best fusion?" Vikram asked with barely concealed eagerness.
"Lava. You'll melt battlefields. But it's Adept-level minimum, and it drains your Core in seconds. Don't try it until you hit Level 6," Desai instructed firmly.
"What if I try it now?" Vikram challenged.
"Then you'll die, and I'll have to write a very awkward letter to your parents explaining that their son ignored explicit warnings and became a puddle of melted flesh," Desai replied without a trace of humor.
Vikram shut up immediately.
---
The lecture continued for two more hours.
Desai showed examples of successful fusions—videos of Master-tier mages creating ice tsunamis, lava geysers, lightning hurricanes.
It was beautiful.
It was terrifying.
And Arjun couldn't stop thinking:
I have three affinities. Bolt, Void, and Resonance. What happens if I try to fuse them?
The System pinged unexpectedly.
**[NEW RESEARCH QUEST AVAILABLE]**
**[FUSION EXPERIMENTATION: PRIMORDIAL TRIPLE FUSION]**
**Attempt to fuse Bolt + Void + Resonance**
**Reward: Unlock unique fusion technique, +500 XP, +200 SP**
**Failure: Possible death**
**Recommended Level: 15+**
Nope. Not touching that, Arjun decided instantly.
He dismissed the notification with a mental command.

**12:00 PM - CENTRAL GARDENS**
After class, Arjun tried to slip away to meditate—he still needed to complete that daily quest—but Anika caught his arm firmly.
"We need to talk," Anika said with determination.
"Anika—" Arjun began.
"Now," Anika interrupted, her grip tightening.
She dragged him to a quiet spot under the cherry blossom trees, far from other students who were scattered across the gardens.
Raj started to follow protectively, but Anika shook her head sharply at him.
"Just us," Anika stated firmly.
Raj nodded reluctantly and walked away, though he looked worried as he glanced back.
Once they were alone, Anika crossed her arms defensively.
"You're going to tell me what's going on. Right now," Anika demanded.
"I already told you—" Arjun started.
"Bullshit," Anika cut him off, her voice quiet but sharp as a blade. "You're my brother. I've known you for sixteen years. I know when you're lying."
Arjun looked at her carefully.
Her short hair was messy from training. Her eyes were fierce with concern and frustration. She wore their father's leather jacket despite the warm weather.
She looked so much like their mother when she was angry.
He sighed heavily.
"If I tell you, you can't tell anyone. Not Raj. Not the squad. No one," Arjun said seriously.
"I promise," Anika agreed immediately.
"Anika, I'm serious. If anyone finds out, I'm dead. Or worse—they'll lock me up and use me as a weapon," Arjun warned with genuine fear.
Her expression shifted from anger to deep concern. "What are you talking about?" she asked, her voice softening.
Arjun looked around carefully. No one was nearby to overhear.
He held out his right hand toward her.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then he stopped suppressing it consciously.
Black veins spread across his palm like dark lightning, glowing faintly with an eerie light.
Anika's eyes went wide with shock.
"What the hell is that?" Anika whispered, staring at his corrupted hand.
"Void affinity. I didn't just awaken Bolt at the ceremony. I awakened Void too. That's why the Echo Stone shattered," Arjun explained quietly.
Anika stared at his hand, processing the information.
"Void is forbidden. They monitor Void users. Put them under constant surveillance," Anika said slowly, understanding the implications.
"I know," Arjun confirmed grimly.
"And you've been hiding it this whole time?" Anika asked incredulously.
"Yes," Arjun admitted.
"How?" Anika demanded.
"Grandma taught me. Before she died. Tantrik rituals to suppress the signature," Arjun explained.
Anika was quiet for a long moment, clearly struggling with the revelation.
Then she grabbed his hand—the corrupted one—and held it tight without hesitation.
"Does it hurt?" Anika asked with genuine concern.
"Sometimes," Arjun answered honestly.
"Is it killing you?" Anika pressed, her voice breaking slightly.
Arjun hesitated, but couldn't lie to her directly.
"Yes," he admitted quietly.
Anika's grip tightened painfully. "How long?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I don't know. A few months, maybe. Unless I can figure out how to manage it," Arjun said as calmly as he could manage.
"And that's why you've been training like a maniac? Why you look exhausted all the time?" Anika asked, piecing it together.
"Yeah," Arjun confirmed simply.
She let go of his hand and punched him in the shoulder without warning.
Hard.
"Ow! What was that for?" Arjun protested, rubbing his shoulder.
"For not telling me sooner, you idiot!" Anika said fiercely, her eyes wet with unshed tears. "I'm your sister! We're supposed to handle things together!"
"I didn't want to put you at risk—" Arjun tried to explain.
"I don't care about risk! I care about you!" Anika interrupted passionately. "You can't do this alone. You're going to burn out, or get caught, or—"
She stopped abruptly.
Took a deep breath to compose herself.
"Okay. Okay. We fix this. Together. What do you need?" Anika asked with determination.
Arjun felt something in his chest loosen with relief.
"I need time. And I need to get stronger. There's a method I'm using. A training program. It's helping, but it's slow," Arjun explained vaguely.
"What kind of program?" Anika questioned.
He almost told her about the System.
Almost.
But something stopped him.
The System felt too personal. Too dangerous to share with anyone.
"Just a strict regimen. Meditation. Combat drills. Aether circulation exercises," Arjun said, which was technically true.
It wasn't a complete lie.
Anika studied his face carefully, searching for deception.
"You're still not telling me everything," Anika observed accurately.
"No," Arjun admitted.
"But you will. Eventually," Anika stated rather than asked.
"Maybe," Arjun hedged.
She shook her head with exasperation. "You're impossible."
"I know," Arjun agreed with a faint smile.
They stood in silence for a moment, cherry blossoms drifting down around them like pink snow.
"Does Raj know?" Anika asked after a pause.
"No," Arjun answered.
"Are you going to tell him?" Anika questioned.
"I don't know. Maybe. When it's safer," Arjun said uncertainly.
"He's going to be hurt that you didn't trust him," Anika pointed out gently.
"I know," Arjun acknowledged with guilt.
Anika sighed deeply. "Alright. I'll keep your secret. But you have to promise me something," she said seriously.
"What?" Arjun asked.
"If it gets too dangerous—if you're really dying—you tell me. Immediately. And we figure something out together. Deal?" Anika demanded.
Arjun nodded firmly. "Deal."
She hugged him suddenly and fiercely, pulling him close.
"Don't die on me, okay? I already lost Mom and Dad. I can't lose you too," Anika said into his shoulder, her voice muffled.
"I won't," Arjun promised, hugging her back tightly.
He hoped desperately it wasn't a lie.
**2:00 PM - BASE 1 ARMORY**
The Armory was a massive warehouse on the eastern edge of Base 1, surrounded by triple-layer security wards that shimmered visibly in the afternoon sun.
Two hundred First Year students lined up outside, buzzing with excitement and nervous energy.
Inside, the walls were lined with weapons.
Thousands of them.
Swords. Daggers. Bows. Staffs. Gauntlets. Axes. Spears.
All Basic-tier, all forged from Feral beast crystals, all glowing faintly with residual Aether that made the air hum.
A bored-looking quartermaster stood behind a reinforced desk.
"Name and weapon preference!" he barked mechanically as students approached one by one.
When Arjun reached the front of the line, he said clearly: "Arjun Rathore. Gauntlets."
The quartermaster checked his tablet without looking up. "Bolt affinity, Level 2. Gauntlets... here," he announced.
He tossed a pair of metal gauntlets onto the counter with a metallic clang.
They were simple—gray steel with no ornamentation, featuring faint blue etchings along the knuckles that pulsed softly.
[BASIC BEAST WEAPON: VOLT STRIKER GAUNTLETS].
Tier: Basic
Origin: Aether Wolf crystal (Feral-tier, Bolt affinity)
Stats: +3 STR, +2 AGI
Active Skill: Static Discharge - Release a short-range electric shock (stuns for 2 seconds, 20-second cooldown)
Durability: 100/100
Value: ~1,200 credits
Arjun picked them up carefully.
They were heavier than he expected—maybe one kilogram each, solid and well-balanced.
But when he slipped them on, they fit perfectly as if molded to his hands.
And he could feel the Aether inside them pulsing rhythmically. A faint buzz, like electricity just beneath the surface waiting to be unleashed.
"Channel Aether into them. See if they work," the quartermaster instructed in a bored tone.
Arjun closed his eyes and pushed Bolt Aether from his Core into the gauntlets deliberately.
The blue etchings lit up brightly.
Electricity crackled across the knuckles with an audible snap.
"Good. They're bonded to you now. Don't lose them. Replacement cost is two thousand credits," the quartermaster warned flatly.
"I won't," Arjun promised, already thinking about the astronomical cost.
Arjun stepped aside to examine his new weapons more closely.
Anika was next in line.
"Anika Rathore. Gauntlets," she stated confidently.
"Terra affinity, Level 2. Gale secondary," the quartermaster noted, pulling out a different pair from storage. "Stone Fist gauntlets. Reinforced with Terra Brute crystal."
[STONE FIST GAUNTLETS]
Stats: +4 STR, +1 STA
Active Skill: Stone Shell - Cover fists in rock (doubles punch damage for 5 seconds, 30-second cooldown)
Anika grinned widely as she put them on, flexing her fingers experimentally.
"Perfect," she declared with satisfaction.
Raj got his weapons next, approaching the counter with barely contained excitement.
[MOUNTAIN GUARD GAUNTLETS]
Stats: +2 STR, +3 STA
Active Skill: Earth Anchor - Root yourself to the ground (cannot be moved for 10 seconds)
"These are amazing," Raj whispered reverently, staring at them like they were made of pure gold.
Nikhil received a polished wooden staff with earth-tone engravings..
Sameer got a composite bow with flame-red string that glowed when he touched it.
Squad 9 was now fully armed.
3:00 PM - TRAINING FIELD ALPHA
Lieutenant Sharma stood at the front of the massive field, arms crossed over her chest authoritatively..
"Alright, First Years! You have your weapons! Now let's see if you can use them without killing yourselves!" she announced loudly.
She pointed at the training dummies spread across the field in organized rows.
"Pair up! One person attacks, one person observes! Switch every five minutes! GO!" she ordered.
Squad 9 paired off quickly.
Arjun partnered with Raj.
"You go first," Raj offered generously.
Arjun nodded and approached a reinforced training dummy.
He raised his fists, feeling the weight of the gauntlets..
The weapons felt natural, like extensions of his arms rather than foreign objects.
He channeled Bolt Aether deliberately.
The etchings glowed blue with power.
He punched forward with full force.
CRACK.
His fist connected with the dummy's chest, and electricity exploded outward in a brilliant flash.
The dummy's torso caved in dramatically, burnt and smoking from the electrical discharge.
"Holy shit," Raj whispered in amazement.
Arjun stared at his gauntlets with new respect.
Without the weapon, that punch would have done nothing significant. With it, the destructive power was remarkable.
He punched again experimentally.
CRACK.
Again.
CRACK.
Each hit was devastating, far beyond his natural strength.
The dummy was reduced to rubble within thirty seconds of sustained assault.
"Okay, Rathore, you're done. Don't destroy all our equipment on Day 1," Sharma called out as she walked over, her tone mixing approval with exasperation.
"Sorry, ma'am," Arjun apologized.
"Don't apologize. That was good form and excellent power control. But pace yourself. You're burning through Aether fast," Sharma instructed professionally.
She was right, Arjun realized.
He checked his AP mentally: 180/240.
Three empowered punches with the gauntlets had cost him 60 AP total.
That's twenty AP per empowered strike. I can only do twelve before I'm completely empty, Arjun calculated mentally.
He'd need to be much more careful in actual combat situations.
Raj's turn came next.
He slipped on his Mountain Guard gauntlets and activated Earth Anchor with concentration.
His feet sank into the ground immediately, roots of stone spreading outward in a visible pattern.
Sharma tried to push him experimentally.
He didn't budge even slightly.
She pushed harder with both hands.
Nothing moved.
"Excellent work. You're a natural tank," Sharma praised genuinely. "But remember—being immovable means you can't dodge incoming attacks. If an enemy has ranged capabilities, you're a sitting target."
"Understood, ma'am," Raj acknowledged seriously.
They trained intensively for two more hours.
By the end of the session, Squad 9 had developed a much clearer understanding of their weapons' capabilities and limitations.
ARJUN: Fast, high-damage strikes with excellent precision. Low sustainability with only twelve empowered punches maximum before Core depletion.
ANIKA: Balanced offense with Stone Shell turning her into a close-combat monster for brief five-second bursts of devastating power.
RAJ: Pure defense specialist. Earth Anchor made him a living wall that nothing could move or topple..
NIKHIL: Support role. His staff extended his Terra manipulation range by fifty percent, allowing for better battlefield control.
SAMEER: Ranged DPS with surprising effectiveness. Flaming arrows were terrifyingly powerful, though he set three training dummies on fire accidentally during practice.
They were evolving from a random collection of students into a real combat squad with defined roles.
8:00 PM - ARJUN'S BUNK
Arjun sat cross-legged on his bunk, curtains drawn for privacy.
[DAILY QUEST: AETHER CIRCULATION]
He'd failed this critical quest three times in six days.
Tonight, he absolutely had to succeed.
He closed his eyes with determination.
Reached inward for his Cores carefully.
Bolt Core: Warm, stable, glowing blue-white with familiar energy.
Void Core: Cold, hungry, pulsing black with dangerous power.
Okay. Slow. Careful. Don't let them mix under any circumstances, Arjun reminded himself.
He pulled Aether from his Bolt Core gently.
Circulated it through his pathways
methodically.
Right arm.
Shoulders.
Left arm.
Chest.
Legs.
Back to Core.
Slow. Steady. Controlled.
The Void Core pulsed ominously.
No. Stay sealed, Arjun commanded mentally.
He reinforced the barrier using tantrik techniques Grandma had taught him—mental visualizations of chains and locks containing the dangerous power.
The Void Core settled reluctantly.
He continued circulating with intense focus.
Ten minutes passed.
Twenty.
Thirty.
[DAILY QUEST: AETHER CIRCULATION - COMPLETE]
[REWARDS]
+5 max AP (245 → 250)
+15 SP (65 → 80 SP)
+25 XP (213 → 238 XP)
Aether Corruption: NO INCREASE
Arjun let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
I did it, he thought with relief and satisfaction.
Finally.
He checked his Status screen eagerly.
[SP: 80/150 needed]
[70 SP to go.]
[2 more days.]
He could make it.
He had to..
9:30 PM - CENTRAL GARDENS
Raj found Anika sitting alone under the cherry blossom tree, staring at nothing in particular.
"Hey," Raj said softly as he approached.
She looked up. "Hey," Anika replied quietly.
"You okay? You've been quiet since this afternoon," Raj observed with concern.
"Yeah. Just thinking," Anika said noncommittally.
Raj sat down beside her carefully. The garden was empty except for them and the distant glow of barrier wards illuminating the night sky.
"Want to talk about it?" Raj offered gently.
Anika was quiet for a long moment, clearly debating.
"Do you ever feel like you're not strong enough? Like no matter how hard you train, it won't be enough?" Anika asked finally, her voice vulnerable.
Raj blinked in surprise. "All the time," he admitted honestly.
"Really?" Anika asked skeptically.
"Are you kidding? I'm the slowest person in our squad. I can barely keep up during runs. I'm terrified I'm going to be dead weight when we enter the portals," Raj confessed.
Anika looked at him with genuine surprise. "You're not dead weight. You're our tank. You held off that entire wave of practice dummies today while the rest of us regrouped," she pointed out.
"That's different. That's just standing still and being fat," Raj said self-deprecatingly.
"Don't talk about yourself like that," Anika said
sharply.
"It's true," Raj insisted.
"No," Anika said firmly, turning to face him directly. "You're not just fat. You're strong. You're brave. And you're the best person I know."
Raj felt his face heat up with embarrassment. "I... thanks," he managed.
They sat in comfortable silence for several moments.
Then Anika said quietly, "Arjun's hiding something."
Raj's stomach sank with worry. "What do you mean?" he asked carefully.
"I don't know exactly. But he's different. Distant. And he won't tell me what's wrong," Anika explained with frustration.
"Did you ask him directly?" Raj questioned.
"Yeah. He said he's fine. But he's lying," Anika stated with certainty.
Raj hesitated before speaking. "Maybe he just needs time," he suggested diplomatically.
"Maybe," Anika said, though she didn't sound convinced at all. "But if something's really wrong... if he's in danger... I need to know."
"We'll figure it out. The three of us always do," Raj said with quiet confidence.
Anika smiled slightly at that. "Yeah. We do," she agreed.
They sat under the cherry blossoms until curfew approached, talking about nothing and everything, and for a little while, the weight of secrets didn't feel quite so heavy.
**11:47 PM - ARJUN'S BUNK**
Arjun lay in his bunk, unable to sleep despite his exhaustion.
He pulled up his Status one more time with a mental command.

Arjun stared at the notification with growing dread.
Eight days.
In eight days, he'd enter a real Fracture Zone for the first time.
Face real Echo Beasts that wanted to kill him.
Risk real death with no safety nets.
I need to be ready, Arjun thought with determination.
He closed the notification and forced himself to sleep.
Tomorrow was Day 7.
One day closer to the manual.
One day closer to survival.
One day closer to the portal.
To be continued.....
