Vedika's POV
I was going inside the building after ruining my day because of that Mr. Careless.
Kya hi mast mood mein nikli thi ghar se ki Operation Moon ka first day hai, sab acche se ho jaaye.
(What a great mood I left home in thinking it was the first day of Operation Moon and everything would go well. But no, God just doesn't let me stay happy for even a little while. Now please just make sure nothing worse happens and everything goes well. And no one should suspect me or even pay attention to me so I can quietly do my work.)
Apne aap se baatein karte karte I reached the entry point and verified my identity with the ID card they had provided at the time of hiring.
Then I went towards the reception.
"Hello, Good Morning. I am Prisha Mehra," I said to the receptionist girl politely.
"Good Morning, ma'am. How can I help you?"
"Where is Mr. Tahir Ahmed's office?" I asked her as I had received a mail from the HR Department to report to him first.
"Oh, HR Department Head Mr. Tahir Ahmed?"
"Yes."
"His office is on the second floor, ma'am."
"Okay, thank you."
I replied casually and went towards the lift. Reaching the second floor, I found the office and knocked on the door.
"Yes, come in."
I opened the door and stepped inside.
"Good Morning, sir. I am Prisha Mehra, recently hired as Management Executive."
"Oh okay, Miss Prisha."
He nodded slightly before speaking again, "Before reporting to Surya... sorry, I mean before reporting to the M.D. sir, I wanted you to complete the rest of the important formalities first."
Then he picked up a file from his table and handed it to me.
"Fill all these forms, sign them, and provide all the required documents by afternoon to Raj Sharma, my assistant. Okay?"
"Yes sir."
"And let me take you to the M.D. sir's office to introduce you."
"Yes sir."
Then I followed him. We went towards the lift and reached the seventh floor, the topmost floor of the building.
The moment I stepped out of the lift, my eyes slightly narrowed in confusion.
There were glass security doors here first of all, which already looked weird because the other floors didn't have anything like this. And on top of that, there were two guards standing there too.
Why is there so much security here?
I thought in my mind immediately.
Then Tahir sir gave some sort of access card to the guards. It looked completely different from my normal office ID card. Generally all ID cards have almost the same design, right? But this one was different. Maybe it was for senior-level employees.
The guards allowed us inside and I quietly followed him.
"You'll get your access card after submitting the forms I gave you," Tahir sir informed me while walking ahead.
"Sir, I already got the ID card," I replied instantly.
He looked at me and explained patiently, "That is the general entry card for the office. But the one I'm talking about is specifically for this floor. This is the M.D.'s floor. No one can enter here without that access card. And now you are going to work in this department, so you'll need one too."
"Oh... okay sir."
I replied slowly, still confused.
What is going on? All this is so weird.
Because this level of security is definitely not common. I have visited so many offices before but this is something I'm seeing for the first time.
But I'll find the answers to all these questions soon enough.
Then he stopped in front of a huge office cabin and looked at me.
"Wait a minute."
I nodded and he entered inside first.
I hope ab sab acche se ho jaaye bhagwan ji please. Ab aur kuch gadbad mat karna. Aaj ke liye pehle wali problem hi kaafi thi.
(I hope everything goes well now dear God. Please don't create any more problems now. The earlier disaster was already enough for today.)
A few moments later he came back out.
"Come."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nervousness, and walked inside.
But the moment my eyes landed on the person sitting there, I froze completely.
Lo ho gayi gadbad.
(Great. Now everything is ruined.)
Because the person sitting in front of me was none other than the same man I had fought with in the parking lot.
And he was the M.D. of Zyvora Systems.
Baj gaye mere toh band. Kaha soch rahi thi ki attention nahi milegi aur chup chaap apna kaam kar lungi, par ab toh tu gayi Vedika. Tune toh pehle din hi isse panga le liya. Ab toh iski nazar humesha mere work par hi rahegi.
(I'm completely doomed now. I thought no one would notice me and I would quietly do my work, but now you're done for Vedika. You already picked a fight with him on the first day itself. Now his eyes will always stay on my work.)
Wait...work...
Kahin job se hi na nikal de abhi ke abhi? Nahi nahi yaar aisa nahi hona chahiye. Mera pehla aisa sting operation hoga jisme me main pehle hi din bina kuch kiye fail ho gayi?
(What if he fires me from the job right now itself? No no this can't happen. It would be My first sting operation where I will fail on the very first day without even doing anything?)
No no no... it can't end like this.
I have to find Shreya somehow and for that I have to stay here. I can't waste this chance because of him.
I came out of my thoughts when his shocked voice reached my ears, exactly matching my own expression.
"You?"
"Again?"
Then he looked at me carefully and asked, "What are you doing here in my office?"
Before I could say anything, Tahir sir immediately spoke, "Sir, what happened? She is Prisha Mehra, your department's new Management Executive."
His expression instantly calmed down.
"Nothing happened. I'll talk to you later, Tahir."
Tahir sir looked slightly confused like, what did I even do? But still he nodded politely.
"Okay sir."
And then he left us alone.
No no no sir, aapne kuch nahi kiya. Maine kiya hai. Ab meri wajah se aapko lecture sunna padega.
(No no no sir, you didn't do anything. I did. Now because of me you'll have to listen to his lecture.)
Arrey yaar main kya bole jaa rahi hu? Serious Vedika. Be serious.
(Oh God what am I even saying? Serious Vedika. Be serious.)
Now only the two of us were inside the office.
He slowly walked towards me and I stiffened slightly.
Now what will he do? Why is he coming here?
Then stopping near me he asked calmly,
"So... what was your name?"
Before I could answer, he smirked faintly.
"Mehra... Miss Mehra, right?"
Why are you getting scared of him Vedika? You haven't done anything wrong. Otherwise he'll prove himself right. It was his mistake, not mine. He suddenly came in front of my car. You don't need to be scared of him. I'll see how he fires me. I didn't break any office rules.
I straightened myself slightly and replied confidently,
"Right. I am Prisha Mehra. Good Morning, sir."
"Sir?" he repeated sarcastically. "Good Morning?" he said making air quotes with his fingers.
He added, "Really Miss Mehra? Itni formality? Wow... nice to see your new behaviour. Abhi bahar hi toh mile the na. Yaad toh hoga hi."
(So much formality? We just met outside. You remember that, right?)
I forced a fake smile while controlling my irritation. Otherwise I could have given him a proper reply too. But no. I wanted this job. Isliye chup hu warna batati main isse toh.
(That's why I'm quiet otherwise I would have definitely answered him back.)
"Yes, I remember very nicely," I replied through gritted teeth with a fake smile. "But now I'm just following office rules and behaving professionally because you are my boss. So obviously I'll call you sir. It's common sense."
Then under my breath I murmured, "Which you clearly don't have."
"What did you just say?"
Did he hear that? But I had said it very softly.
"No nothing. I just said I have this much common sense."
"Yes, I can clearly see your common sense," he replied calmly. "But tell me one thing... how can the morning be good when you already made it bad?"
Haan toh mera konsa dream tha ki jisse main bahar itna lad kar aayi hu wahi mera boss niklega. Par khair, ab jo ho gaya so ho gaya. Meri hi kismat kharab hai.
(Yeah like it was my dream that the same person I fought with outside would turn out to be my boss. But anyway, what's done is done. My luck is just bad.)
"Yeh tum kya apne aap se baatein kar rahi ho kab se?" he suddenly asked, raising his brows slightly in confusion.
(Why have you been talking to yourself continuously?)
I instantly came back to reality.
"Nahi... kuch nahi."
(No... nothing.)
"Isse logon se takrane ke saath saath khud se baatein karne ki bhi bimari hai. Oh God, kaha phass gaya main."
(Along with crashing into people, she also has a habit of talking to herself. Oh God, where have I gotten stuck?)
He muttered it while slightly turning his face away but unfortunately I still heard it.
Excuse me?
He is blaming me? How can he do that?
I instantly got frustrated and snapped,
"Acchha mujhe takraane ki bimari hai aap takrate hai humesha aur mujhe blame kar rahe hai aur aap nhi fase main fass gayi hu..."
(Oh really? I have a habit of crashing into people? You yourself always come in front of me and then blame me for it. And you didn't stuck i got stucked.)
"Ji nahi," he replied instantly. "Tum takraati ho humesha. Pehle café aur aaj parking lot."
(No. You're the one who keeps crashing into me. First at the café and now in the parking lot.)
"Hm. Kuch bhi. You were walking without looking. It was your mistake. Just accept it."
"Oh? My mistake? Really?"
"Yes."
He closed his eyes for a second like he was controlling his patience before speaking calmly,
"Agar tum phass gayi ho na toh you can leave the job. You don't need to work here forcefully."
(If you feel trapped here then you can leave the job. You don't need to work here forcefully.)
And then he gestured towards the door casually.
My heart literally stopped for a second.
Vedika, can't you control your tongue for once? Kaha tha na patience rakh. Ab dekh kya ho gaya.
(Vedika, can't you control your tongue for once? I told you to stay patient. Now look what happened.)
No wait. You are not leaving. Just remember why you came here and focus only on that.
I closed my eyes for a second and suddenly Shreya's memories flashed inside my mind rapidly.
I took a deep breath before opening my eyes again.
"You cannot fire me on my first day because of personal issues. Be professional."
"Wait a minute," he replied calmly. "When exactly did I fire you?"
I blinked in confusion.
"I only advised you that if you're feeling trapped here then you can leave. And about professionalism..."
A faint smirk appeared on his lips.
"I'm already professional."
Whattt? He didn't fire me?
Haash... thank God bach gayi.
(Thank God, I'm saved.)
But wait... why isn't he firing me? Something is definitely going on inside his mind. What exactly is he planning now?
Why would he keep me in his office after all this? Kuch samajh hi nahi aa raha.
(I'm not understanding anything.)
Leave it Vedika. Just be happy you still have the job. Now focus on why you came here. Aur inse toh main 10 feet ka distance bana ke rakhungi taki kuch aur kand na ho.
(And I'm definitely going to maintain a ten feet distance from him so no more disasters happen.)
Baki jo hoga dekha jayega. Darti hu kya main kisise? Never. Vedika Roy is the kind of person who doesn't fear anyone. Bohot dangerous logo ka saamna kiya hai maine. Dekh lungi inhe bhi. Hmm.
(Whatever happens later will be handled later. Do I get scared of anyone? Never. Vedika Roy is the kind of person who fears no one. I've faced far more dangerous people before. I'll handle him too.)
"What are you thinking?" he suddenly asked. "Are you planning to leave or work here? What's your final decision?"
"Of course I'll work here. I came for this job only. Why would I leave?"
"Okay then. All the best."
He smiled slightly.
There is definitely something wrong here. Why is he suddenly behaving sweetly? Our history clearly says sweetness does not exist between us.
Then he walked towards his table, picked up the intercom and said,
"Come to my office."
Kise bulaya hai?
(Whom did he call?)
A few moments later the door opened and a girl entered inside.
"Yes sir?"
"Meet Miss Mehra... uhm, Miss Prisha Mehra. She is our new Management Executive. Please brief her about the rules and regulations and show her desk as well."
"Okay sir."
Then he looked at me.
"She is my secretary. She'll guide you regarding your work."
I nodded silently.
Ohh... toh yeh work ke liye tha. Main toh kuch aur hi soch rahi thi.
(Oh... so this was related to work. I was thinking something completely different.)
"Hii Miss Prisha," she greeted politely.
"Hello," I replied with a small smile.
"Come, I'll show you your desk."
"Yes, sure."
I walked out with her but before leaving I turned back once.
And he was already looking at me. His eyes held something unreadable, almost like he was silently saying this isn't over yet.
I immediately looked away and followed her outside.
Then she introduced me to everyone in the department. Tara, Rohit, Meera, Shiv, Jay and Gauri.
Then she left and I finally sat at my desk.
So we are only seven employees in this department. Okay... that explains why this floor feels so silent.
And one more thing I noticed... CCTV cameras.
Everywhere. Literally everywhere.
This place has insane security. I'll have to be extremely careful and work without getting caught on cameras.
I was still lost in thoughts when suddenly my eyes landed on the curtains of the office cabin in front of me.
The curtains slowly opened.
And there he was.
His office was directly in front of my desk.
Wait... why did I not notice this before?
Then he looked straight at me and a mischievous smile slowly appeared on his face.
Wow. What a view.
