Alaric's POV
"Get away from her!" The words ripped from my throat, raw and desperate.
I stumbled to my feet, lurching forward with whatever strength remained in my body. The armored bastard barely lifted his wrist, and suddenly I was flying through the air like discarded trash. My body crashed into the unforgiving ground with bone-crushing impact, and my vision blurred as explosions of light burst behind my closed eyes.
When the world stopped its violent spinning, I forced myself to witness the horror playing out before me. What I saw would burn itself into my memory forever.
Draven hunched over Zinnia's lifeless body, crimson dripping from his mouth as he casually wiped away traces of his feast. Her golden eyes gazed at absolutely nothing, stripped of every spark of life and warmth I'd fallen in love with. Her chest barely moved, each shallow breath a battle she was losing.
Vivienne's broken wails filled the courtyard, sharp and wild with grief.
