I watched Xander march furiously toward the locker room exit. His threatening words hit me like a punch to the gut, sending my heart hammering against my ribs. But despite his warnings, I couldn't escape the conviction that Lyra was my salvation, not my downfall.
Maybe she's the key to getting me out of this nightmare.
My eyes wandered to Ash, who seemed completely unbothered by our heated confrontation. He stood under the streaming water with his eyes closed, casually working his shoulders as the spray drenched his dark hair. I jerked my gaze away before he caught me staring. Cranking the shower handle with more force than necessary, I snatched my towel and practically fled to my locker. I threw on my clothes and bolted before Ash finished his shower.
I burst through the locker room doors, my head still spinning from the confrontation. Technically, I hadn't lied to Ash about what I wanted.
