What the hell just happened?
My gaze remained locked with Ash's dark eyes. They held mine with an intensity that made my breath catch, even as Killian scrambled behind Xander like a frightened child. The cafeteria had gone silent around us, every student frozen in place.
Kenji hauled himself to his feet during the chaos. His hand clamped down on Ash's shoulder, jerking him from my grasp. The contact seemed to snap something inside Ash.
He blinked hard, as if surfacing from deep water. Our connection severed abruptly, leaving me feeling strangely empty. Ash wrenched his shoulder free from Kenji's grip with violent force, stumbling backward several steps.
His eyes darted around the room like he couldn't quite focus. He shook his head sharply, took another step back, and then his body began to shift. Bones cracked and reformed as his human shape dissolved into that of a massive black wolf.
