My conversation with Xander left me feeling worse than before. I had hoped we could find some resolution, maybe even clarity, but watching him walk away only reminded me how hopeless everything had become. The harsh reality crashed down on me like a tidal wave.
Killian had turned me down cold.
Ash was furious and desperately trying to sever our mate bond.
Alaric wanted nothing to do with me.
And Xander was so obsessed with having me that he was willing to destroy everything just to claim me for himself.

I abandoned my afternoon classes and dragged myself back to the dormitory like a wounded animal seeking shelter. The empty room felt like a blessing when I pushed through the door. My book bag hit the desk with a loud thud before I stumbled toward my bed and collapsed face-first into the mattress.
