The city began to sing at midnight.
Not with sound.
With memory.
Kael felt it first in his bones—a faint vibration, subtle but wrong, like someone whispering his name from very far away. Shadowfang trembled in his hand, the runes along the blade pulsing like a heartbeat. Beneath his skin, the mark of the Veil burned, as if something ancient was unlocking.
Then the sky cracked.
Stars vanished, one by one.
And above the city, crowns appeared.
Not one.
Ten.
Floating in silence, broken and burning, each forged from a different era. Some were golden and shattered, others black and bleeding light. Each crown carried the weight of a forgotten reign.
The city stopped breathing.
People froze in the streets. Voices died mid-word. Even fire stood still.
Then the first voice came.
"My name was erased…"
A figure descended from the crown—a translucent king, his body made of memory and regret. His eyes burned with centuries of betrayal.
Then another appeared.
And another.
The Fallen Kings had returned.

Kael ran.
The streets were no longer streets—they were visions. Wars replayed themselves in flashes of fire. Betrayals screamed from the walls. Oaths shattered in the air like glass. The past was bleeding into the present.
One of the kings landed in the plaza, his crown dripping crimson light.
"My throne was stolen," he roared.
"My name was devoured!"
He raised his hand—and an entire building collapsed into ash.
Kael shadow-stepped forward, blade ready, but he didn't strike.
He listened.
The Veil flared.
Memories slammed into his mind.
A king betrayed by the gods.
A king murdered by his own son.
A king erased so another could rule.
Kael staggered back, gasping.
These were not monsters.
They were wounds that history refused to heal.
"Kael!"
He turned.
The Memory Keeper was running toward him, fear in her eyes.
"If you don't stop this, the city will tear itself apart!" she shouted. "The kings don't want destruction—they want to be remembered."
Kael looked up.
The crowns were burning brighter, feeding on the city's fear.
"How do I stop them?" he asked.
She grabbed his hand.
"The way you stop everything," she said. "By naming it."
Kael stepped forward.
He lowered his sword.
Then—slowly—he knelt.
Just as kings once knelt before the throne.
"I remember you," Kael said.
The Veil screamed.
The city shook.
"I will carry your stories," he continued.
"But I will not let the world bleed for them anymore."
The first king trembled.
Then knelt.
His crown shattered into dust.
One by one, the others followed.
Crowns fell from the sky—not as weapons, but as quiet stones.
The city exhaled.
The Memory Storm faded.
Silence returned.

Kael stood slowly, exhausted.
The Keeper stepped beside him, her hand close to his, but not touching.
"This is only the beginning," she said softly. "You are no longer just an heir. You are a judge."
Kael looked up.
One crown still remained in the sky.
Black.
Unbroken.
From a distant tower, the Crown Hunter watched, applauding slowly.
"Impressive," he said. "You freed the kings."
His eyes burned with anticipation.
"Now it's time to face the gods."
Deep beneath the city, stone screamed as ancient doors opened.
The heart of the throne called.
And Kael answered.
