Chapter 1 - The Beginning

A soft voice came from the screen.

"I like you."

The woman stared up at the man, eyes wide. "Pardon?" she almost shouted, unsure if she had heard him right. The words sounded too unreal.

"Let's get married," he said again, smiling brightly

The episode ended there.

Kim Ji-won screamed in frustration. "This is ridiculous! Why end it there?" She jumped to her feet, pacing the room. Her hands rested on her waist as she wondered how to get the next episode faster. "I should sue the movie industry," she muttered, staring at the ceiling.

A knock broke her thoughts.

"Come in," she said sharply.

The maid entered and informed her that breakfast was ready. "I don't feel like eating," Ji-won replied irritably. "I'm already annoyed."

"Your husband wants to see you," the maid added carefully.

Ji-won frowned. Her marriage was nothing but a hollow shell. From the outside it looked perfect, but inside it was cold and tense. She and her husband barely spoke, and love had never existed between them. She knew he was not calling her to make peace.

She walked to the dining room slowly and sat down. Oxtail soup and rice were served, a dish she never liked.

"Morning," Park Sohyun said flatly, sipping his coffee. As usual, he had not touched any food.

Ji-won looked at him. His eyes were cold and distant, as if she were a stranger instead of his wife. He sat across from her in his neat brown suit, ready for work, calm and detached.

Sohyun had always chased perfection. It had made him successful, but his marriage had disrupted his orderly life. Their union had been arranged years ago when their families joined companies. Now that he was in charge, Ji-won's involvement felt like a constant problem.

Ji-won yawned, covering her mouth. "What?" she asked when she noticed him staring.

"Why did you do it?" Sohyun asked sharply.

She rolled her eyes. "I'm tired. I barely slept."

His face hardened. "Do you think this is funny?"

"It seemed like a good idea at the time," she said hesitantly.

"Are you out of your mind?" he snapped. "This is a company, not a game."

The silence was heavy.

"Yes, I'm crazy," Ji-won shot back. "You never let me be involved anyway."

"So?" he replied coldly.

"It's my father's company too," she said firmly. "I had the right to decide."

"That's exactly why you should be serious!" he yelled.

She flinched. Seeing her reaction, he sighed. "I'm sorry. But don't ever make decisions like that without talking to me. I already rejected that project."

"No," she whispered.

His eyes narrowed. "What do you mean, no?"

She stayed silent.

"Kim Ji-won," he continued, "what happened to all the projects I trusted you with?"

Guilt washed over her. Every failure came rushing back.

"You relied on your instincts then too," he said coldly, standing up. "We may be childhood friends, but business is different."

"I'm smart too," she said bitterly.

He sighed. "No one said you aren't."

They stood facing each other. "We've been married for six years," she said quietly.

"Not now," he replied. "We'll talk later."

Her heart sank. "I want a divorce."

He laughed softly. "You're joking."

"I'm serious," she said, her firmly but her voice unsteady

He smiled, cold and sharp. "We'll see."

"I'm going to court today," she added.

He paused, surprised. "You really mean it?"

She nodded. "I want a divorce."

Sohyun turned toward the door. "Then I'll see you in court," he said, walking out of the house.

Jiwon had everything ready—the documents, the resolve, the fire in her chest. Today was the day she would finally collect the divorce papers she had filed for. She wore her darkest shade of red, perfectly matched with her lipstick. The dress clung to her curves, her cleavage daring, the hem grazing just above her ass. To a stranger, she might have looked scandalous—almost reckless.

Her hazel eyes shimmered beneath the city lights as she sang along to Bad Blood by Taylor Swift, every lyric dripping with fury, like she was ready to draw blood. With a confident strut, she headed toward her Ferrari 250 GTO.

She let out a heavy sigh as she slid into the driver's seat. This was war—and she was armed. The music roared as she sped toward the Seoul Family Court, bass pounding through her veins. But as she drew closer, the volume faded, and a chill ran down her spine.

This was real now.

Her hands trembled slightly on the steering wheel as she whispered a prayer—desperate for approval.

"Come on, Jiwon, don't get nervous now," she muttered to herself. "This is what you want. (Breathe in… breathe out.) Besides, it's not your first rodeo."

She focused. On what mattered.

When she arrived at the court, she exhaled sharply and stepped out of the car, heels clicking against the pavement as she strode inside. No one dared stop her—she was a VIP here. She adjusted her glasses with dramatic flair and walked straight into her divorce lawyer's office.

"Hey," she said casually, settling into a chair and crossing her legs.

"Come in, Mrs. Park," the lawyer said, her tone laced with sarcasm.

"Sorry," Jiwon replied in English, flipping her hair back.

"It's been denied," the lawyer said, cutting straight to the point.

"What?!" Jiwon exclaimed, yanking her sunglasses off and uncrossing her legs abruptly.

"Mrs. Park—"

"Choi Jiwon," she interrupted sharply.

"We've been through this so many times," the lawyer continued, unfazed. "And we both know how this always ends."

"But this time it's different," Jiwon insisted, excitement flashing in her eyes. "I can feel it."

"And you've felt that way for the past three years."

Jiwon sighed in frustration. "Should I just kill you all, or sue

?"

Her deadly stare made her intent clear—she wasn't leaving without what she came for. The lawyer could see the desperation etched into her face.

Unfortunately, Jiwon's husband had arrived earlier, issuing a warning: do not proceed with the divorce. If she did, Jiwon would lose everything—and the lawyer was not to let his wife walk away unsatisfied. It was the hardest case she had ever handled.

"You're going to approve this, or you'll lose your job," Jiwon threatened.

The lawyer almost laughed at how alike they were.

"Either way, I'm going to be dead," she said flatly.

"What do you mean?" Jiwon asked.

Jiwon walked out victorious—she had gotten her go-ahead. She felt on top of the world.

The best way to celebrate this is with some Misandre sherry, she thought as she strutted back toward her Ferrari.

"Jiwon?" a hesitant voice called out.

She turned to see a man standing near a Bentley truck. He was tall—strikingly so—with a powerful masculine build. His broad shoulders were noticeable even from afar. A bright, excited smile spread across his face as he approached her.

As he came closer, his amber eyes gleamed under the light. His sharp, pointed nose gave him an intimidating edge, while his slim pink lips curved warmly.

"Kang Joon Gi," Jiwon said, returning the smile.

He stopped in front of her, openly admiring the sight. She looked as beautiful as ever—though her makeup suggested she was ready to commit murder.

Noticing his lingering stare, Jiwon touched her makeup self-consciously, suddenly awkward.

"It's been so long, Jiwon."

"I know!"

He was her high school lover—briefly. They'd dated for only a week before breaking up. Back then, he'd been a bully, and it hadn't felt right.

"It's been, like, eight years," she added, hugging him lightly and pulling away before he could deepen it.

"Heard you got married," he said.

"Yeah."

"Congratulations."

A pause. "So… what brings you here?"

Jiwon glanced around, suddenly realizing they were still at the courthouse.

"Just visiting a friend," she lied.

Joon Gi saw straight through it.

"What about you?" she asked.

"Oh, me?" He smirked. "I'm a divorce lawyer."

He punctuated it with a wink.

Jiwon burst into laughter. "Hey, be serious!"

Her soft laughter left him momentarily speechless. When she noticed the sudden seriousness on his face, she cleared her throat.

"Wow. Who would've thought? The high school bully becoming a lawyer—a divorce lawyer, at that. Interesting."

"It's because you broke my heart, Jiwon," he joked.

She smiled softly. He still had his humor.

She studied him closely, taking in how much he'd changed. He looked responsible, strong, undeniably wealthy—more mature than she ever expected. She wondered what had happened to transform him so drastically.

Then she noticed the ring on his finger and felt guilty for even checking him out.

"Did you get married or something?" she joked, secretly hoping he hadn't.

He chuckled. "Typical Jiwon—always jumping ahead. But you're right. I am married."

Her smile faltered. "Oh… congratulations."

"I'm married to my work."

She laughed sheepishly. "LOL," she said, brushing it off.

"I should go," she said suddenly. "My husband's waiting for me."

A lie—but he let it slide.

"Maybe we could meet up sometime," he suggested.

She smiled. "Sure."

"Can I get your number?" he asked reaching out for his phone.

She typed it into his phone and handed it back. "Here."

"You look lovely,by the way " he said, flashing her a sweet smile as he walked away.

Jiwon smacked her forehead with her palm, feeling foolish. She chuckled softly as she watched him disappear, old memories flooding back as she climbed into her Ferrari.
