Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Identity Bonus

Nawaki's eyes widened in surprise as he stared at Minato. "Didn't you say Sunagakure was about to attack?"

"Hmm, they probably had a sudden change of heart and retreated," Minato replied casually, nodding.

"Come on—" Nawaki's mouth twitched. "You definitely did something, right?"

"I just used the Flying Thunder God Technique with Senior Sakumo for a decapitation strike." Minato paused. "And fired off a couple of Ninjutsu."

"Oh, I see? That's good, I guess," Nawaki sighed. "Better than me just running errands here."

"Don't even think about it. Your skills aren't ready for the front lines," Minato said, taking Nawaki's hand. He condensed a tiny Chakra blade between his fingertips and lightly slashed across the back of Nawaki's hand.

Ssssh—

A shallow cut appeared, and Nawaki hissed in pain. "Ouch! What are you doing?"

"Treating the wounded, of course. There are dozens of them here. How long would it take you to finish?" Minato wiped the blood from Nawaki's hand with his thumb, swiftly formed hand seals, and added with a teasing tone, "If you don't even know how to use a Summoning Technique, how can I trust you on the battlefield?"

Poof!

A cloud of smoke erupted.

A three-meter-tall slug materialized inside the tent.

"Long time no see, you two~"

The slug's tentacles twitched. "Are you here to treat the wounded?"

Minato nodded politely. "Yes, we would be grateful for your assistance, Lord Slug."

"Alright, leave it to me!"

The slug's voice chirped with enthusiasm, and it rapidly split into dozens of smaller forms.

Noticing the commotion, the Medical Ninjas inside the tent turned to look.

"Whoa! Isn't that Lord Slug?!"

A Medical Ninja in a white protective suit's face lit up with delight. "Hey, what's your connection to Lady Tsunade?"

"Hmph, Tsunade is my Big Sis. And this guy beside me is her disciple!" Nawaki crossed his arms, his voice swelling with pride. "Namikaze Minato—Konoha's top genius! Heard of him?"

A small slug landed on his shoulder. As Yang Release Chakra flowed through it, the wound on the back of Nawaki's hand rapidly healed.

"So you're Lady Tsunade's disciple? How respectful of you." The Medical Ninja's eyes sparkled with excitement.

"Hey, hey, what is that? A slug?" A female ninja with an injured arm recoiled in revulsion, instinctively trying to dodge.

"Everyone, stay calm. This is Lady Tsunade's Summoning beast, Lord Slug, who possesses remarkable healing abilities."

The Medical Ninja who had just spoken with Minato stepped forward, picked up a Slug clone, and without further explanation, pressed it against the female ninja's arm.

"Ugh."

The female ninja pursed her lips. "It feels sticky."

Seemingly sensing her disdain, the Slug's tentacles twitched. "If you keep being so picky, I won't treat you anymore~"

The female ninja flushed with shame. "Uh—I'm sorry. I'm just a little scared. I was bitten by a bug when I was a kid."

"I don't bite people, because I have no teeth!"

The Slug said, and as if fearing she wouldn't believe him, opened its mouth wide. "See? Ah—"

Hearing the Slug's words, the surrounding people burst into good-natured laughter, instantly dispelling the tense atmosphere.

Before long, thanks to the Slug's treatment, most of the patients were nearly healed, except for those with severe injuries.

As news of the Sunagakure forces' retreat spread through the camp, the people's spirits soared.

After thanking the Slug, Minato dispelled the Summoning. "Alright, we should head back now."

"Thank you for all your hard work," the Medical Team leader said quickly as Minato prepared to leave. "Without you, Minato-kun, we'd have been working until who knows when."

Minato nodded gently. "Not at all. You're too kind."

"By the way, Minato-kun, are you from the front lines?"

"No, our mission is to remain at the outpost, handling intelligence work."

"I knew it—"

The Medical Team leader nodded in understanding. "While I think the Medical Team would suit you better, your age does make the front lines unsuitable."

"It's alright. The outpost isn't far from here. If you get overwhelmed, feel free to send someone to fetch me at any time."

Minato replied politely, "I'm not as skilled as Teacher, but I do know the basic Healing Palm Technique."

His words were mostly politeness, though not entirely.

When acting as a Medical Ninja, he represented not only himself but also Tsunade's reputation.

Though Minato didn't obsess over such matters, he did hope to enhance Tsunade's renown.

After all, the prestige of one's position could prove useful at times.

Think of queens, teachers, investigators, and so on.

"The basic Healing Palm Technique—"

Is this really basic?

Hearing Minato's words, the head of the Medical Team couldn't help but marvel, "Truly worthy of being Lady Tsunade's disciple!"

A-Rank Ninjutsu, kid!

Once you master it, you'll be immediately hired at Konoha Hospital!

And you're calling it basic?

At this time, Tsunade's medical skills had reached the pinnacle, but her reputation still lagged far behind her later fame. Most people still knew her primarily for her beauty and monstrous strength.

Only they, the Medical Ninjas, truly understood how extraordinary the First Hokage's granddaughter's medical expertise was.

"Minato-kun!"

Hearing his name called, Minato turned and saw Shirakumo Fūta waving to their group.

Minato hurried over. "Senior Shirayuki."

"I'm so relieved you're safe."

Seeing Minato unharmed, Shirakumo Fūta breathed a sigh of relief.

He had been teleported to the front lines by Minato using the Flying Thunder God Technique.

When he learned that Minato had been ordered by the Hokage to go alone to support Hatake Sakumo, he thought the Hokage had gone completely mad.

Even though he had witnessed the Flying Thunder God Technique's incredible mobility, Minato was still just a child, about the same age as his son. This couldn't help but worry him.

Fortunately, the boy had returned safely.

"We'll hold off on the order we just received until the support troops arrive," Shirakumo Fūta said. "Let's rest in the tents for a while. The support troops should arrive around nightfall."

Minato nodded, and the group went into the tents.

The moment they entered, they were immediately repelled by a pungent odor of sweat.

"It's a bit... intense," Shirakumo Fūta said with some helplessness. "It's the front lines, after all, so it's not convenient to wash. Plus, the Land of Rain is perpetually damp and dreary, so we're stuck in these tents."

"How about we grab some food instead?"

Nawaki forced a smile. "Minato, aren't you always hungry? You must be starving by now, right?"

Minato shook his head. If their living conditions were this bad, how good could the food be?

It seemed the Four Pillars Technique would have to make a long-awaited appearance once more!
