Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Nick

"Holy cow!" Nick hissed under his breath, his face heating up as his eyes landed on the massive tent under the sheets beside him. His gaze traveled upward, tracing the plush blanket, and settled on Dan's face. The alien's intense, unblinking eyes locked onto his, filled with a hunger that was becoming disturbingly familiar. Lust radiated off Dan in palpable waves, and it was impossible to ignore.

It wasn't the first time Nick had caught him looking like that. The brooding alien's gaze seemed to strip him bare, making his skin flush and his breath catch in his throat. What was even worse or perhaps better was that Nick had started craving it. That predatory glint in Dan's silvery eyes sent a thrill down his spine. It was intoxicating to know he was the reason behind that burning hunger. A part of him felt empowered, even smug, realizing how deeply he affected Dan. It was a dangerous game of attraction, and Nick wasn't sure he wanted to stop playing.

Still, no matter how much he tempted or provoked Dan, the alien never touched him. Nick had tried everything, subtle and not-so-subtle. Like now, sprawled out in Dan's bed wearing nothing but a flimsy pair of shorts that left little to the imagination. Yet, Dan remained steadfast, his hands fisting the sheets instead of reaching for him.

Nick wasn't sure if Dan was hard because of him or if it was just... a Grosh thing. After all, Dan seemed to wake up aroused nearly every morning since Nick had moved in. Though, if he were being honest, Nick wasn't any better. If Dan was hard every morning, Nick was hard all the damn time. His body betrayed him, heating up and reacting the moment Dan entered the room. It was mortifying.

The alien's restraint baffled him. Dan had been assertive—possessive, claiming Nick as his without hesitation before. But now, it was like he'd taken a vow of celibacy. What the hell was he waiting for? Maybe he was afraid of getting him pregnant, like he had alluded to before. The thought should have terrified Nick—and it did, on some level but not as much as it should. Maybe it was the hormonal changes, or maybe he was just losing his mind, but the idea of having a child with Dan was starting to seem... not entirely terrible. Comforting, even.

Dan had given him some translated materials on Grosh reproduction, and Nick had devoured the information with equal parts fascination and medical curiosity. The Grosh were incredibly secretive about their reproductive biology, and Dan had warned him not to share the information with anyone, not even Ira. Nick understood the gravity of that secrecy. The Grosh guarded their mating practices like a closely kept treasure, and Nick wasn't about to jeopardize Dan's position by sharing forbidden knowledge.

According to the texts and confirmed by Dan, Nick was now considered an Omega. Something he was still coming in terms with.

Dan's venom had altered his biology at a fundamental level somehow. Outwardly, he still looked human, but internally, his body had been transformed to function like a Grosh omega male. It was surreal. They weren't even the same species, not from the same planet, yet something about their chemistry had triggered this "priming" state between them.

Nick felt like he was walking a tightrope, balanced precariously between disbelief and acceptance. His world had been turned upside down, his body betraying him in ways he couldn't fully comprehend. Yet, beneath the confusion and the fear, there was an undeniable pull, an instinctive desire that was becoming harder to deny. Every time Dan's piercing gaze locked onto his, Nick felt himself inching closer to surrender. And the scariest part? He wasn't sure he wanted to resist anymore.

Nick yawned, stretching his arms deliberately so they brushed against Dan. As he swung his legs over Dan to get to the other side of the bed where the bathroom was, Dan stopped him with a firm hand on his hip.

Dan's voice was rough and scratchy from sleep as he spoke. "I'm not going to fuck you, Nick."

"I don't want you to," Nick shot back, a little too defensively.

"No?" Dan asked, his tone taunting as he pushed Nick down, making him sit directly on the evidence of his arousal.

Words abandoned Nick in an instant. His body betrayed him, igniting with a heat that surged through every nerve ending already simmering with awareness.

"Nothing stopped you from pursuing me before," Nick accused, his voice shaky. "What's the issue now? Why are you acting all noble all of a sudden?"

"I'm respecting your wishes," Dan replied, pressing his hardness against Nick's ass for just a moment before pulling back. Without another word, he rolled out of bed and disappeared into the bathroom.

Like every morning, Nick stared after him in disbelief. Dan acted like nothing had happened, completely ignoring Nick's frustration. When he emerged from the shower, droplets of water glistened on his smooth skin, steam curling off his body. He smelled fresh, clean, and utterly sinful. He looked like a damn sex god.

Nick licked his suddenly dry lips, his eyes trailing over Dan as he got dressed in his business attire. He looked sharp, devastatingly handsome, and utterly edible. An image of dropping to his knees and sucking him off flashed through Nick's mind, and he barely managed to stifle the groan that threatened to escape.

"Don't drool, Nick. You're going to ruin the sheets," Dan teased, a smug smile tugging at his lips.

Nick snapped back to the present, his face heating. "I'm not drooling. I was thinking about work."

"Sure you were," Dan chuckled as he finished buttoning his shirt.

Nick clenched his fists, fighting the urge to jump him. God, he was even more attractive when he smiled. If they were a normal couple, Nick would have flaunted him to all his friends, kissed him in public, and declared to the world that this sex god was his. But they weren't a normal couple. Dan was an alien, and Nick was human. Their relationship was forbidden.

"How do the Omegas on your planet look?" Nick asked suddenly, curiosity getting the better of him.

"Why do you want to know?" Dan asked, raising an eyebrow as he adjusted his collar.

Nick shrugged. "I don't know. I was just wondering if they're more beautiful than us. If they're anything like you... you must be disappointed to have primed with me."

Dan crossed the room in a few strides and cupped Nick's face in his hands, tilting his head up to meet his gaze.

"Trust me, you don't need to worry about other men, no matter how beautiful they are," Dan said, his voice low and sincere.

"You don't have to flatter me," Nick muttered. "I know how I look. Even by human standards, I'm average at best. To the Grosh, I must be an abomination."

Dan didn't reply immediately, his eyes ran over Nick's face, a small, almost hidden smile playing on his lips. "You're right, Grosh are more beautiful than any human could ever be. But looks don't matter to us the way they do to humans. Our connections are purely biological."

"So, you're saying you'd fuck me even if I was ugly?" Nick blurted, his voice laced with bitterness. God, he sounded pathetic.

Dan leaned down and pressed a chaste kiss to his lips, a gesture that contradicted his previous words.

"Those are your words, not mine," Dan murmured before pulling back.

"Why don't you go bother one of your own kind, then?" Nick asked, unable to keep the jealousy from seeping into his voice.

"God, you're sexy when you're jealous," Dan groaned, leaning in again, this time kissing him more hungrily.

Nick shoved him away, frustration bubbling to the surface. "Obviously, there's no shortage of beautiful people back on your planet. Why waste your time with an ugly human like me?"

Dan sighed, rubbing a hand over his face as if trying to muster patience. "I don't have the energy to argue with you right now. I have a meeting to attend. When I come back, I expect to see you in Ira's office. We have things to discuss."

Nick didn't respond. He was too pissed to ask what Dan meant.

"Are we clear?" Dan asked, his tone serious now.

"Fine," Nick snapped, turning away.

Nick's day had been going perfectly fine until Dr. Desai asked him to get a 3D ultrasound.

"What? Dan put you up to this, didn't he?" Nick exclaimed, his voice laced with suspicion.

"I know it's a lot to take in," Dr. Desai said, her tone cautious, "but remember when I took your blood? Well, your reports show that your genes, the non-coding ones are similar to those of the Grosh. It's quite possible that you're biologically compatible with Dan for procreation."

Nick scoffed, Dan had been telling him so as well but he was still having a hard time trusting it. "We have 97% of our genes in common with monkeys, but that doesn't mean we can have babies with them," he argued. The fact that they had tested his DNA without his permission surely violated some laws.

"Just take the ultrasound, please," Dr. Desai implored, clearly exasperated. "Dan is giving me a headache, calling me every few hours. Do it for his peace of mind."

As handsome as the alien was, he seemed hell-bent on making everyone's lives miserable at NEAE. Well, maybe not that miserable, Nick thought, considering that the time he spent with Dan was the happiest he'd ever felt. Nick had never had anyone care for him as much as Dan did. It was scary, but it was also heartwarming. All of this, the situation, the emotions felt foreign, yet the thought of being with Dan somehow didn't.

Dr. Desai's phone buzzed loudly, interrupting his thoughts. She glanced at the screen and sighed. "See? It's him again." She turned the phone toward Nick, showing Dan's name flashing across the display before answering the call.

"Yeah," she said curtly into the phone. "Yes, I asked him. I'm trying my best... okay!"

Nick listened to the conversation and couldn't help but notice how worked up Dr. Desai looked.

Reluctantly, he laid down on the examination table as she prepared the 3D ultrasound machine. The hum of the device filled the room as Dr. Desai began scanning him.

Nick was well aware of what a human male's anatomy looked like under an ultrasound, but what appeared on the screen was completely different. His stomach sank as reality started to set in.

This wasn't normal.

He stared at the screen, wide-eyed, as Dr. Desai analyzed the image. What he saw could only be described as a uterus, flanked by two gland-like structures that resembled ovaries in a female.

"This is insane," Nick murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. Dan had been telling him that his body was transforming from within to complement Dan but this...this was a reality check Nick wasn't ready for.

Dr. Desai's eyes widened, her tone filled with awe. "My goddess, Nick. Such transformation in an adult male is a medical miracle."

Nick's heart hammered in his chest, overwhelmed with a mix of nervousness and something he couldn't quite name.

He didn't know how to feel. The thought of his entire body transforming, his biology shifting, felt absurd, almost impossible. He wanted to be angry at Dan, but from what he knew, Dan didn't have much control over the process either. Nick's body had started to change the moment they met. The venom Dan introduced had only accelerated the transformation.

Nick couldn't blame anyone, but that didn't mean he could easily accept the drastic changes happening to him either.

As he stared at the ultrasound screen, the reality of his transformation began to weigh on him. What did this mean for his future? For his relationship with Dan? For his humanity? Questions swirled in his mind like an unstoppable storm, each one more unsettling than the last.

"We should get Dan in," Dr Desai commented as she wiped Nick off and removed her gloves.
