Chapter 39 - DAY OF DEPARTURE!

'One of the hardest things to do is saying goodbye to a place you were so familiar with regardless of whether you loved or hated it, and for me it was mostly a bitter sweet goodbye. Everyone gathered at the town square to see us off, while I can't say that it was emotional for me I can't say that it wasn't either, these people have seen so many terrible things and have endured a lot of pain and suffering just because someone else thought it fit to oppress those they don't know.

Personally I can't let that go just because I'm weak and insignificant to the grand scheme of things, I'll train and get stronger, I'll learn everything I can about the outside world and get to experience everything out there. That way I can understand what it is the white folk chose to shield from us. I'll do it.

Although I must say that my determination was tuned down a notch when I noticed Njeri wasn't there that morning to see me off. Perhaps it was something I said or maybe she just couldn't bare seeing me leave without her, especially since she's the one whose always wanted to leave this place. A place that has now become a safe haven especially for other villages as well.

I couldn't worry about it at all that morning since things were extremely hectic and Akame was pressuring me to leave since he wanted to catch something . As such this is the beginning of my long journey, a journey that I am hopeful will bring lot's of fortune our way.

 ***

"Loliwe is divided into three parts. The eastern islands, the central island and the western islands." Akame explained, "Where we're going to is the central island or rather more appropriately Nairobi, the capital city."

Gil's eyes lit up, "Yep, we will be going after I check if I have everything."

He had brought a duffle bag with him, one that some of the ladies back in the village had sown for him. "Yeah, I've got everything."

He then turned towards Akame who, rather weirdly, had nothing on him other than an open hooded jacket that was obviously too big for him, black socks and sandals.

"Hey, um… where's your stuff?" Gil finally asked after a long time just staring at him.

"What?"

 "Like your luggage and stuff."

 Akame stretched out his hand.

 "?"

"Hand over your bag." He said.

Gil wondered where he was going with this but still gave him the bag regardless.

As soon as Akame touched the bag with his left finger, black bubbles began forming around it. It appeared as though they dissolved the bag and soon it disappeared.

"Well." Akame quickly turned, "Let's go."

 "How did you do that?"

"I'll explain on the way." He then turned to Catherine who was bent over looking at something. "You coming or not?"

"I'm coming, don't leave me behind!" She shouted skipping towards the pair.

"I know you've probably already planned this out, but how do we get from this half of the island to the center (We're on the easter islands right?)" Gil asked.

"Using a boat obviously, how dumb could you be?" Catherine stuck her tongue out.

"What, I---I knew that." Gil defend himself, "Plus you have no right to call me stupid, idiot."

"Akame Gil called me dumb." Catherine reported.

"Would it help if I told you that you are both stupid?"

 "Why?" The responded in unison.

Akame took out something from him pocket. It seemed like a small hand held telephone, and it was.

FLIP!

Akame flipped it open to reveal a tiny screen and monitor.

"Ok so, we're here." He pointed at the red dot at the screen's center.

"Are we the red dot?" Catherine asked.

"Yes, as you can see this dust road stretches out for miles, meaning that we'll need to walk all the way… here." He pointed at what appeared to be the end of the map.

"Is that the end of the world?"

"Sadly no, it's the ocean. Here is a small port city by the name of Kisumu, we should be able to take a train over to the capital, where we'll then be able to grab a boat all the way to the land of the east sun, or my home in short."

"Ok, so we've got a solid plan." Catherine nodded, "No need to fear boys if trouble were to find us as we journey on wards I will make sure to protect us. After all I am a genius."

"Where are you learning all these complicated words from?" Gil was not feeling safe at all.

"That's my little secret." She chuckled. "Now, we go!" She ran off following the dirt road. This is the same road that cut through to the old graveyard which seemed to be doing better nowadays, not like Gil would've known he hadn't passed here in over a year.

"So how long will it take us to get there, a day, maybe two?" Gil asked.

"About 2 hours, if we keep walking that is, but if we do stop for a brake add a half an hour to than initial 2 hours."

"Seriously, it doesn't seem that long, we might be able to get to endo in just 2 days."

 "Not a chance."

 "What! Why?"

"You'll know when we get there, for now I'll just say that you shouldn't get your hopes too high."

The trio continued on their journey, as for you and me dear reader, why don't we take a little break from them and head over to another group that just also happens to be in Kisumu, the port city of Loliwe.

 ***

KISUMU, THE PORT CITY OF LOLIWE

The city was buzzing with life that morning. The hum of morning traffic mixed with the noise of cur engines roaring in jams was the city life. Especially for the locals in this city, while it wasn't big, it was the only city on this part of the country and as such people from all over got to visit this place and inevitably live here.

Of course, as with any city, there were places away from the noise, and no it wasn't on some enclosed part of the city. If your looking to get away from daily noise don't look on the ground, look up.

KISUMU NATIONAL RESORT AND HOTEL!

Ah yes, a building that dwarfed all the others, I believe they call it a sky scraper. It was tall. Not the tallest in the country but taller than most. It had a total of 200 floors from top to bottom and of course would only serve those with enough money to make the president look poor, well that and government officials.

At the 150th floor, someone still tossed and turned in their bed, either unaware that they had a job to do or just didn't care and knowing her its probably the second one. But luckily for her, and us, she wasn't there alone.

"Wakey, wakey Iman." A man was with her, one who wasn't muscular but rather plump, but behind all that fat was a warm heart. He wore a black shirt and shorts, to compliment this he had his hair dyed black.

"Wakey, wakey." He gently pushed her shoulder.

 "Pasta… pasta milk." She whispered.

"What was that?" He leaned in closer.

 "Pasta milk."

"Pasta milk?" He looked at her for a moment, "The hell are you dreaming about?"

She was a complete mess, her blanket had been tossed to the other side of the room and not only that, the pictures on the walls were tilting from a crooked frame, there was the smell of alcohol soaked into the carpets.

CREAK!

 The door behind him opened.

"Eww." Exclaimed Justine as he walked in, "This place smells like a war zone." He covered his nose.

"Yoo, bitch, wake up." Justine grabbed both her legs and pulled her out of bed, causing her to knock the back of her head on the floor.

"The fuck is wrong with you asshole." She shot up from the ground.

"Don't get all fussy with me Missy, you're the one sleeping like you own the damn place." Justine retorted.

"That's coz I fucking do you asshat, I rented this suit for the week."

"Well technically your living in it for free coz the government's paying for it." The big man whispered into her ear.

"Lay off me Teddy." She said grabbing her head, "God I might just have the worse hangover in the universe.

"Of course you do, who in their right mind drinks Gunnies, 2.6L of it, no additives no nothing, just that."

"Fuck off me." She shouted as she headed out the door and found her way to the bathroom. She stared at her face which had a smooth round shape to it, not to mention that her skin was soft and beautiful, as though it radiated light.

Her hair was black and short only reaching her shoulder and she often tied it into a bun. Her eyes were black and she had long eyelashes, like any woman her age would. She sighed. But sadly all of those features were obscured by the fact that her face now looked like a dumpster with stains and blemishes not to mention her breath smelt horrible. So unlady-like.

ABOUT 7 MINUTES LATER.

After taking care of her business upstairs she descended down the building using the elevator, but only to the 100th floor because that's were her and her group were supposed to meet. The hall was big, and had a lot of people dinning that morning, probably for breakfast.

She spotted Teddy at the end of the room leaning against the wall. She walked their rubbing her eyes.

"Glad you finally decided to join us, Jericho." Angel took a bite out of her muffin, "Tell me, how do you feel when you sleep and we're awake doing work?"

"It feels pretty great actually." She reached over for one of her muffins and ended up taking the entire tray. "What a night."

 "Boys?" Justine asked.

"Not since I was 16. Annoying creatures, aren't they?" She took a bite. "So, what's on today's agenda?"

"What's on every agenda? More and more villages in this area have began rising up against the bishop's allocated to rule them, some even going as far as killing them. In revolt."

"Doesn't this have to do with that village you guys were first at… what was it, he's name starts with a G...Fuck, I can't remember." Jericho took a bit out of her muffin.

"Well, yeah, but its not like he's still alive or anything also we weren't even given that job by…" Before Justine could finish Angel shot him a look, one that threatened his morning meal, "I mean he isn't alive, no way."

"Shouldn't that send a message to all other villages that fucking around with the government ain't worth your life?" Jericho asked.

"You'd think so, but when they see another village get away with it with little to no repro-cations it tends to make that fear go away." Teddy answered, "Especially since no knew bishop came back alive, the only way to deal with this is cut it from the source."

 "So?"

"We find the village, deal with the locals while also appointing a knew bishop to rule over the place, with our authority no one would dare try and revolt. What do you think Angel?" Teddy looked at their leader.

"Not a bad idea, I can see that working. But to avoid us staying there for too long I suggest we call in the Vatican for a bishop first then do that."

"True, I ain't trying to go back there." Justine responded.

"I'm not trying to stay in this country longer than I have to, right Ted?" Jericho turned to her friend.

"Of course, especially when there are more jobs that more suit my repertoire." She held her chest in pride.

Angel rolled her eyes, "It shouldn't take long, probably a day or two."

Angel got up, "Find something to do until then." She left.

"Just don't stay out too late kids." Justine followed behind.

"So, wachu wanna do?" Ted asked getting up too.

"I was just gonna play video games and drink 'till we leave." Jericho followed, her hands in her pocket.

"How about we do some actual, knight stuff, you know like old times."

Jericho didn't say anything for a moment, "I guess we haven't done anything fun for a while, wachu have in mind."

He pulled out his phone, clearly excited as though he was planning this the entire time they were here. He then gave it to her.

"Woah, ok big guy." She shoved him with her elbow, "I like the way you think."

With that, the two were off to deliver some painful justice.
