Chapter 72 - The Practical Application of Large-Scale Silent Killing jutsus (Part Two)

Although he had no idea what Hagoromo planned to do specifically, Hyūga Hizashi still reacted swiftly. He pulled out paper and pen from his ninja pouch, pressed them against the Yatagarasu's back, and sketched out the precise positions of the enemies detected by his Byakugan.

He clearly marked the distances between the four enemy squads—arranged in a box-like formation—as well as their individual depths underground, leaving no detail out.

Hagoromo took the paper and glanced at it. With his borderline bug-level processing ability, once he overlaid the enemy positions onto the effective range of his jutsu, he immediately felt reassured.

The distribution wasn't too sparse, nor was it too dense.

He really could wipe them all out in one go.

"I happen to have a forbidden jutsu that's perfect for this situation…"

As he explained to Hizashi, Hagoromo reached into the ninja pouch on his back. It was stuffed full of miscellaneous items, and after rummaging around for a while, he finally pulled out what he wanted.

"Got it."

What he took out was a small scroll with a black cover—no thicker than a thumb, and only about ten centimeters long.

However, under Hizashi's Byakugan, the scroll was clearly sealed. A layer of chakra enveloped it, and the contents inside were completely obscured from view.

Next, Hagoromo placed the scroll between his palms and formed a special hand seal—one that wasn't part of the standard Twelve Hand Seals.

His left hand was held horizontally, parallel to the ground. His right hand stood vertically atop it. Four fingers from each hand interlocked, the fingers of the right hand pointing upward, while the fingers of the left pressed firmly against the back of the right hand.

His two thumbs clamped the scroll perfectly between his palms.

The seal resembled the Ox (丑) hand sign, but wasn't quite the same. It was a hand seal commonly used in Uzumaki Clan sealing jutsus.

"Release."

Puff.

As the seal was completed, a cloud of white smoke burst forth. Once the outer sealing formula was undone, the tiny scroll instantly reverted to its original size.

The scroll's true form was nearly forty centimeters in diameter and over a meter tall.

Hagoromo tucked the scroll under one arm, partially unfurled it with the other, then guided the Yatagarasu to fly low over the area where the sixteen enemy ninja were hidden.

At a specific point, he dropped the scroll straight down.

"I'm going to release the summoning now," Hagoromo said.

"What exactly are you planning to do?" Hizashi asked.

"It's not complicated," Hagoromo replied calmly. "Just leave it to me."

He didn't directly answer the question—only conveyed complete confidence.

Then, without hesitation, Hagoromo jumped off the Yatagarasu.

Hizashi had no choice but to follow. He still didn't fully understand Hagoromo's plan, though he was starting to form a vague idea.

After the two landed, Hagoromo truly dispelled the summoning.

Because they couldn't be certain how the enemy's sensory ninja detected chakra, and to ensure absolute secrecy, the two of them instinctively switched to hand-sign code for communication.

Hizashi gestured:

"That scroll just now—was it a large-scale sealing jutsu? Are you planning to use fuinjutsu to deal with all of them at once?"

Hagoromo responded:

"Correct."

Hizashi frowned slightly and signed again:

"But the range is enormous. Using a sealing jutsu on that scale will definitely cause a huge disturbance."

This method of communication heavily tested both eyesight and hand speed. Fortunately, such skills were basic training for ninja—otherwise, all one would see was Hizashi's hand moving back and forth without understanding a thing.

In truth, Hizashi also harbored doubts. A sealing jutsu covering a two-hundred-meter area was, by common sense, something nearly impossible for a single ninja to use.

Hagoromo replied:

"This uses silent-phase processing—ahem, correction—this uses a large-scale sealing jutsu with quiet-phase suppression. It has tremendous power and wide coverage, but produces virtually no sound. Perfect for a situation like this."

He answered Hizashi's stated concern. As for the doubts Hizashi hadn't voiced—Hagoromo had no way of knowing them.

As for how Hagoromo managed to express something as abstract as "silent-phase processing" with hand signals… one could only say that Konoha's hand-sign code was truly profound.

But Hagoromo wasn't done yet. What came next was the key point.

He pointed to a location—almost directly above one of the enemy squads.

"Stand here later. I'll force this squad out of the ground. Once they surface, you kick all four of them toward the scroll's location…"

Hizashi made a questioning gesture.

Hagoromo continued:

"The last squad is just barely outside the effective range of my jutsu, so they need to be pushed into it."

Now Hizashi understood.

So the range was just a bit short after all.

And yet—even so—this elite jōnin was still willing to trust a much younger ninja like Hagoromo.

There were reasons for that.

First, he knew Hagoromo was Uzumaki Kushina's disciple, and might truly possess large-scale sealing jutsus. Second—and more importantly—he had glimpsed part of that sealing formula earlier.

He hadn't understood a single bit of it.

But it looked terrifyingly advanced.

Hagoromo made a hand sign telling Hizashi to get ready.

He was about to flush the enemies out.

The enemies were buried about fifteen meters underground. To force them up, Hagoromo chose Chidori Sharp Spear(Lightning Release: Thunderclap).

More precisely—

Chidori Sharp Spear(Lightning Release: Thunderclap): Second Form.

This was a modification Hagoromo had made to the jutsu. The second form deliberately reduced the jutsu's raw power in exchange for extended reach.

The original Chidori Sharp Spear(Lightning Release: Thunderclap) had a range of five meters. The second form extended that to twelve meters—the absolute limit of the jutsu.

It still couldn't reach enemies fifteen meters below the surface.

But Hagoromo's goal wasn't to impale them.

It was to drive them out.

Unless the enemy were idiots, at that distance they would absolutely sense the presence of a high-threat Lightning Release jutsu. Once they realized they had been exposed, surfacing to counterattack would be the natural response.

That was when Hizashi's role came into play.

Sure enough—just as Hagoromo predicted—the moment the lightning spear pierced into the ground, the enemies burst out from beneath the surface!

At that exact instant, Hizashi unleashed Eight Trigrams: Air Palm.

Four consecutive strikes sent the enemy ninja—who hadn't even stabilized their footing yet—flying through the air.

The direction and distance were flawless.

At the same moment—

Hagoromo completed another hand seal.

As the seal formed, the distant scroll began to react.

What forbidden jutsu was he about to use?

Simple.

The Four Symbols Seal (Inner Variant).

Although it would drain the majority of his chakra—

Its power was more than sufficient.
