Chapter 95 - The Man Who Wouldn’t Die

Mae Yongsun glanced back, his eyes narrowing slightly just enough to catch Assad's reaction yet he didn't stop walking.

"Oh? Judging by that reaction… you know them."

A faint smirk tugged at his lips.

"Well, you'd have to since you worked with them before. "

Assad's breathing was becoming labored and the weight of the news was starting to push down on him so much he had to take a seat on the edge of a desk.

" ...What happened?"

Mae Yongsun continued to walk and did not respond right away. After a few moments, he brought his voice to an icy calm.

"There was an attack resulting in two districts, Saari and Kurayamiya being wiped out with countless injuries..."

Assad's breathing quickened yet again and the pain in his chest was not only from the grief of losing his friends, but from anger as well.

Mae Yongsun took a pause and continued, "Including the individuals you worked with in Kurayamiya."

Assad could only look at the picture of his friend and brothers in arms as they lost their battle against the enemy.

They were all gone... Tasia, Taura, Lokei, Kiichi, Pixia... Shuren... they were all dead...

"No..."

As Assad began shaking his head back and forth, the pain was becoming unbearable again.

"There is no way they would let themselves die like that!"

As he yelled, Assad's clenched fist hit the countertop he was sitting on, "WHO DID THIS TO THEM?!WHO—TELL ME RIGHT NOW!"

The chains rattled violently as he lunged for Mae Yongsun but was pulled backwards by a guard. He lost his balance and fell hard to the ground, the thud echoing throughout the now silent corridor.

Mae Yongsun looked down on him with her expression utterly unreadable.

"You're pathetic. You're asking the wrong question. It's not who did it, but who caused the situation in the first place. Now, let's continue forward, I do not want to be responsible for delaying your execution."

Assad pushed himself slowly off of the floor and into a standing position, his body stiff from the fall. The chains softly clinked together as he got his footing back.

Without saying anything to one another, they all began walking again.

'How?How could they all be dead? What kind of attack could wipe out two entire districts? Who would even have that kind of power and when did it happen?'

After walking for some time in silence, they finally reached the last door; they had stopped before a metal door. Mae Yongsun hesitated, turning slightly back to glance at Assad.

"Now it's time for you to meet your fellow killers, the ones you grew up with in the Sixty-Fourth."

The words struck Assad. Immediately his facial expression darkened.

"Tch."

Assad frowned heavily, irritated by Mae Yongsun's comment. He opened the door and as the door opened, Asssad's chain pulled him forward causing him to stumble. Also he had flinched and quickly squeezed his eyes shut because it was the first time in a long time that he had seen so much light.

However, regardless of what happened to Assad he continued to be pulled forcibly forward.

"Tch."

When he finally opened his eyes, he saw a man he'd never met before. Mae Yongsun moved forward in front of the man.

"First squad commander, here is the prisoner you requested execution of," Mae Yongsun said calmly.

Mentesh stood motionless, staring at Assad. His eyes roamed over him, calm and calculating like he was taking him apart with no knife or tool at all.

"Is he the one who was caught three months ago?"

Mae Yongsun gave a small nod, "He is."

"Execute him."

As soldiers brought Assad to his knees, a cold blade was placed against his neck. The executioner lifted the executioner's sword above his head and brought it down to cut through Assad's neck.

CLANG!

The noise filled the space with echoes and no blade pierced, something had stopped it from going through him. A hum of noise rippled through the surrounding crowd.

Flames erupted around him.

As soon as the executioner and soldiers immediately raised their arms and beat away the flames, they turned around to face the people.

As the flames extinguished themselves, Assad began to walk with a severed head have stayed into the fire and disappeared from their vision.

Somebody whispered around him, "What, in the hell?"

Yushin was standing with extended eyes and mouth open with shock. "That's, impossible…"

No one responded to Yushin.

They both were frozen staring at the subject of the inquiry, wanting to know what was going to happen next; as if this were exactly what all three were expecting.

Mae Yongsun gazed at Mentesh's direction.

"Did you find what you need sir?"

Mentesh nodded back in response then replied, his voice carrying some joy in it as he said with a smirk.

"Indeed, he will benefit."
