Chapter 44 - CHAPTER - 43

"By the way… how do you always manage to arrive on time if you don't have a car and live so far away?"

It was Rias who asked the question, her curiosity obvious. Ever since Arthur had transferred to the academy, she had occasionally wondered about that small mystery. His house was located quite far from the school, far enough that even driving there would take a considerable amount of time, yet somehow he always managed to arrive exactly on schedule.

Arthur shrugged casually.

"I usually fly," he replied without hesitation. "Before that, I took taxis every day."

The villa his parents had given him—technically inherited from the body's previous owner—was located on the outskirts of the city, far from Kuoh Academy. Under normal circumstances it would have been extremely inconvenient for a student, but for Arthur distance had stopped being a meaningful obstacle almost from the moment he arrived in this world.

At first he had relied heavily on Shunpo to travel quickly.

Now things were even easier. His control over telekinesis allowed him to move through the air at high speed, making the trip trivial.

Rias tilted her head thoughtfully.

"I see… in that case, I can call someone to pick us up."

She reached for her phone, clearly intending to contact someone from the Gremory household, but Arthur quickly stopped her.

Without warning, he bent down and lifted Asia into his arms before gently floating off the ground.

"Last one there washes the dishes," he announced with a mischievous smile. "Teleportation magic isn't allowed, and I won't be using Instant Transmission."

Before either of the girls could respond, Arthur hugged Asia securely against his chest and shot forward like a bullet.

For a moment Rias and Akeno simply stared at the empty sky.

Then they exchanged a glance.

A competitive spark appeared in both of their eyes.

The two girls spread their demonic wings and launched themselves into the air to chase him.

They had possessed wings their entire lives. Flying was as natural to them as breathing, and neither of them believed that someone who had only obtained supernatural abilities a month ago could possibly outpace them.

Unfortunately for them, Arthur's acceleration was absurd.

By the time they arrived at the academy gates, Arthur was already standing there with Asia in his arms.

Rias and Akeno landed beside him moments later, both of them clearly annoyed.

They were sulking.

Despite their frustration, they still walked into the academy together. Before separating, both girls leaned forward and kissed Arthur on the cheek.

The reaction from the surrounding students was immediate.

Several people gasped openly.

Kuoh Academy was already buzzing with rumors about Arthur Tempest, but seeing two of the school's most admired girls openly showing affection toward him caused the whispers to intensify dramatically.

Arthur simply ignored the attention.

Instead, he escorted Asia to her classroom.

Unfortunately, she could not be placed in the same class as the rest of them, but Arthur believed that was ultimately a good thing. At home they had plenty of opportunities to spend time together, whereas school was a place where she could experience something closer to a normal life.

He sincerely hoped she would make many friends.

As the two of them entered the classroom, the murmuring grew louder.

Arthur had no idea just how famous he had become within the academy. Among the girls, his name was mentioned constantly thanks to his appearance and his association with Rias and Akeno. Among the boys, the reaction was far less friendly.

Most of them simply envied him.

Arthur's gaze swept across the room, quickly identifying several familiar faces.

First there was the infamous trio of perverts led by Hyoudou Issei, the former protagonist of the original story. The three of them were staring at him with a complicated mixture of emotions: envy, resentment, and a faint trace of gratitude because of the money Arthur had once "given" them.

But Arthur's attention was drawn elsewhere.

Toward a girl sitting quietly near the window.

At first glance she appeared completely unremarkable. Her messy brown hair was tied into two braids, her golden eyes hidden behind thin-framed pink glasses, and her overall appearance gave off the impression of a shy, nerdy student who preferred staying unnoticed.

However, Arthur immediately recognized her.

Kiryuu Aika.

She was a recurring character in the original novel, known for her sharp tongue, teasing personality, and her rather unapologetic identity as a fujoshi.

In truth, she was one of Arthur's favorite characters.

He had wanted to approach her for some time but had never found a natural opportunity.

Perhaps sensing his gaze, Aika glanced up.

Their eyes met for just a moment.

Arthur gave her a friendly smile.

The reaction was instantaneous.

Aika's cheeks flushed bright red and she quickly turned away, convinced that someone as handsome as him could not possibly have been smiling at her.

Arthur chuckled quietly to himself.

After saying goodbye to Asia and leaving the classroom in a small uproar mainly because the girl had also tried to kiss him on the cheek before he left Arthur made his way toward his own classroom.

Classes passed smoothly.

For Arthur, academic work had become almost trivial. Thanks to his enhanced perception and mental abilities, understanding complex concepts and memorizing information required little effort. What once might have taken hours of study now took only a few minutes of careful attention.

During the second period, however, something unusual happened.

His phone vibrated quietly inside his pocket.

Arthur frowned slightly. It was rare for him to receive messages during school hours since only a few people had his number.

After asking the teacher for permission, he stepped out of the classroom and headed toward the bathroom so he could read the message in peace.

The message was from Rias.

She asked him to visit the student council office after classes were finished. Apparently, her friend—the student council president—wanted to meet the mysterious person who had disappeared from school for an entire week while training the Gremory peerage.

Arthur raised an eyebrow.

Before he could think further, a familiar notification sounded in his mind.

Ding!

[New mission generated]

=====

Someone wants to meet you

Difficulty: Easy

Type: Side Mission

Someone is curious about your identity. Show them why you deserve to be the new protagonist!

Objective: Make a great impression on the student council members (0/1)

Reward: Random Skill Card, 10,000 System Points

=====

Arthur smirked slightly.

The reward was not particularly impressive, but the task itself was so simple that it would be foolish to ignore it. Even if the mission only granted system points, it would still be worth completing.

Before returning to class, he sent Rias a brief reply confirming that he would go meet her friend.

As he walked back to the classroom, Arthur began thinking carefully.

'What should I do to impress that girl?'

He reviewed everything he knew about Sona Sitri.

Sona was not someone who valued flashy displays of power or empty arrogance. She respected intelligence, discipline, and strategic thinking above all else.

After a moment of thought, Arthur smiled.

A plan began forming in his mind.

He opened the system shop interface and quickly searched through the list of available abilities until he found the skill he had noticed the last time he browsed the store thoroughly.

It cost only five thousand points.

Without hesitation, he purchased it.

'With this… I'm ready.'

Satisfied with his decision, Arthur spent the rest of the day quietly practicing the skill while attending class. He quickly discovered that the ability had remarkable compatibility with [Instinct], allowing him to process information and predict patterns far more efficiently than before.

By the time the final bell rang, he felt completely prepared.

Arthur gathered his belongings and headed toward the student council building.

When he arrived, he knocked politely on the door and waited.

A few seconds later, a calm female voice invited him inside.

Arthur opened the door without hesitation.

"Good afternoon. My name is Arthur Tempest. I was told someone here wanted to meet me."

His tone was formal but not submissive. He did not bow or show exaggerated courtesy because he had no intention of appearing weak.

Inside the room, five people were seated around a large rectangular table.

The closest person to the door was a blond-haired boy with gray eyes: Genshirou Saji.

Next to him sat a girl with short white hair named Momo Hanakai and another girl with brown hair named Ruruko Nimura.

At the head of the table sat a slender young woman with glasses, short black hair styled in a neat bob, and sharp violet eyes.

Sona Sitri.

Standing slightly behind her was another girl wearing glasses. Her long black hair reached almost to her knees, her bangs parted neatly, and her heterochromatic eyes—one violet and one light brown—observed Arthur carefully.

This was Tsubaki Shinra.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Tempest-san," Tsubaki said first, bowing slightly.

"Please, take a seat, Arthur-san," Sona added calmly, gesturing toward the chair beside her.

Arthur walked over without hesitation.

The other members of the council did not greet him, which suggested that they had agreed beforehand to remain silent and allow Sona to lead the discussion.

Before Arthur could say anything further, Sona spoke again.

"Arthur-san… do you play chess?"

As she asked the question, Tsubaki calmly placed a chessboard between them.

Arthur glanced down at the board, then back up at Sona.

A confident smile appeared on his face.

"Not to brag," he said calmly, "but I'm fairly confident in my abilities."
