Chapter 40 - CHAPTER - 39

Shortly after Arthur and Rias began their fun, a second magic circle glowed outside the house. From it emerged a mature woman with silver hair, dressed in a blue-and-white French maid's outfit.

Grayfia Lucifuge.

She initially tried to enter Arthur's room directly by following the residual magic signature left behind by Rias. However, Arthur had already anticipated this. The entire interior of the house was sealed by Anti-Magic, making teleportation completely impossible.

Grayfia felt the resistance immediately.

Her brows knit together.

That energy was unnatural. Dense. Absolute.

She abandoned the attempt and moved toward the front entrance instead, her steps quick yet graceful. She rang the doorbell once, then again, and finally a third time.

No response.

At first, she considered forcing the door open, but her sensitive hearing as an Ultimate-class devil already told her everything she needed to know. What she had hoped to prevent had already begun.

There was nothing she could do except wait.

Knowing that Rias's queen and the church girl were inside, Grayfia chose to enter through proper means.

After a short while, Akeno finally opened the door. She was still wearing her pajamas, her long black hair slightly disheveled, and her eyes heavy with sleep. Behind her, Asia slowly descended the stairs in a long nightgown, clutching the teddy bear Arthur had bought her on their date.

"I apologize for disturbing you at this hour," Grayfia said calmly. "May I come in?"

Asia hesitated, unsure how to react to a stranger appearing so late at night, but Akeno stepped forward with a polite smile.

"Ara… Grayfia-san, this is unexpected. It's quite late, you know."

Grayfia felt a faint sting of irritation at the casual tone, but she entered regardless.

Akeno understood perfectly why Grayfia was here. She had practically been raised under her supervision, and she knew how rigid Grayfia could be when it came to matters involving Rias and the Gremory household.

"Anyway," Grayfia continued, removing her gloves, "I need to speak with Rias and Arthur. They've placed themselves in a very complicated situation."

Asia looked confused.

Akeno leaned down and gently explained everything in a whisper: Rias's arranged engagement, her desperation, and what she was currently doing upstairs.

Asia's face instantly flushed crimson.

She hugged the teddy bear tighter.

"T-they're really…?"

Akeno nodded with a mischievous smile.

"Yes. And judging by how long it's taking, they're being very thorough about it too."

Asia nearly melted into the sofa.

She offered to make tea, but Grayfia stopped her and prepared it herself with practiced efficiency, serving both girls.

They settled into the living room.

Waiting.

Time passed slowly.

The faint sounds from upstairs continued without interruption.

Akeno leaned back against the couch, crossing her legs comfortably.

"Ara… Grayfia-san," she said lightly, "it's been almost two hours already."

Grayfia kept her posture rigid.

"That is highly inappropriate."

Akeno tilted her head innocently.

"Is it? Rias has been suppressing herself for years. When someone finally lets go after that long… well, it tends to last."

Asia's ears turned bright red.

Akeno leaned closer to the blonde girl and whispered teasingly.

"Arthur-kun is surprisingly energetic, you know."

Asia buried her face behind the teddy bear.

Grayfia clenched her fingers around her teacup.

She knew the physiology of devils. She knew what prolonged intimacy implied. Still, hearing it framed so casually unsettled her.

She quietly extended her magical senses toward the upper floor.

Instantly, a foreign pressure slammed against her perception.

Her aura recoiled.

Whatever Arthur had erected was not merely defensive. It was absolute. Cold. Hostile to outside interference.

Grayfia withdrew at once, her expression darkening.

She turned her gaze toward Akeno, who was smiling faintly, clearly enjoying the situation far too much.

Asia eventually succumbed to exhaustion and curled up on the sofa, falling asleep while hugging her teddy bear.

Grayfia remained seated upright, hands folded, maintaining composure while inwardly questioning how things had spiraled this far.

Meanwhile, Akeno stared toward the ceiling, her lips curved in a soft smile.

She was nervous.

Excited.

And strangely relieved.

At least Rias had gone first.

That gave her time to prepare herself for what would come next.

Eventually, as the first rays of sunlight slipped through the windows, the sounds from upstairs finally faded away.

Grayfia immediately stood up and headed upstairs, followed closely by Akeno, who already knew exactly what kind of scene awaited them.

Her patience had completely run out.

After knocking once out of courtesy, Grayfia opened the door without waiting for an answer.

Her anger vanished the instant she stepped inside.

The first thing she saw was Arthur standing beside the bed, completely naked.

For a moment, Grayfia forgot how to breathe.

Her eyes instinctively traced his form, taking in every detail before she could stop herself. His skin was fair but carried a healthy warmth, not delicate, not rough, perfectly balanced between strength and elegance. His shoulders were broad, his arms powerful, and his abdomen was sharply defined, each muscle clearly visible beneath smooth skin. His posture was relaxed, yet naturally dominant, as though his body itself radiated authority.

Her gaze drifted lower before she realized what she was doing.

She swallowed.

Even after all this time with Rias, he was still visibly full of vitality, and the realization made her body react in ways she had not felt in decades. A strange heat bloomed in her lower abdomen, and her heartbeat picked up despite herself.

She felt embarrassed.

She felt confused.

She felt far too aware of her own breathing.

Then she heard Akeno step in behind her, and Grayfia immediately tore her eyes away, lifting her gaze to Arthur's face.

That somehow made things worse.

His features were breathtaking. Strong brows, sharp cheekbones, and a jawline that gave him an unmistakably masculine presence. His long golden hair caught the morning light, glowing softly, and his violet eyes shimmered like crystalline amethysts. For a split second, Grayfia found herself trapped in that gaze, feeling something stir in her chest that she had no desire to acknowledge.

Her cheeks warmed.

She forced herself to straighten her back, regaining her composure through sheer willpower.

If she had been younger, she knew she would not have recovered this quickly.

She had lived for centuries, stood beside Sirzechs through war and politics, loyalty and sacrifice, yet this boy unsettled her in a way she could not easily explain.

Originally, she had come prepared to scold him, to demand explanations, to pressure him into distancing himself from Rias.

But standing here now, seeing him like this, she found that anger had softened into something else entirely.

Something closer to concern.

Something almost protective.

Her impression of Arthur shifted in real time.

Instead of seeing him as a reckless human interfering in noble affairs, she now saw someone powerful, composed, and unexpectedly gentle in presence.

She cleared her throat quietly.

"Ahem… I apologize for barging in like this," Grayfia said, carefully keeping her voice steady. "Please put on some clothes so we can discuss something quite urgent."

She turned immediately, grabbing Akeno's wrist and pulling her back into the hallway before either of them could linger.

The door closed behind them.

Akeno looked at Grayfia sideways, lips curling into an amused smile.

"Ara ara… Grayfia-san," she teased softly. "You stared longer than I expected."

Grayfia did not answer, though a faint warmth lingered in her ears.

Arthur remained in the room, watching the closed door for a moment before exhaling slowly.

He smiled faintly.

Arthur just smiled silently, thinking internally that his charm ability was very powerful, but something about Grayfia's reaction bothered him.

'Isn't she supposed to be married to Sirzechs and love him very much? What, then, is with that longing in her eyes?'

If Arthur were asked to make a list of his favorite female characters from this work, Grayfia Lucifuge would definitely be at the top. But don't misunderstand him; he knows she's a married woman, and his principles would never allow him to be interested in another man's wife. However, his instincts told him something was off.

Even so, he put his suspicions aside for another time and quickly got dressed, already anticipating the content of their conversation.

Clarification

This story does not include NTR.

Arthur will never steal or seduce a happily married woman. If a married character ever joins his harem, it will only happen after her previous relationship has been properly resolved for valid story reasons.

Grayfia is planned to join the harem, but it will happen in a way that does not conflict with this rule.

Arthur is not that kind of character.
