Linden Nathan watched Cecilia leave, a bitter smile on his face.
Just as Cecilia was about to leave, Sharon Quincy, who had been listening from outside the door, burst in. "Miss Nathan, please, I'm begging you, just have one meal with Godfather," she pleaded. "You've been away for every holiday these past few years. He's like a lonely old man. It's truly heartbreaking."
"I know you have a problem with me. Godfather is only kind to me because he pities me. Deep down in his heart, you'll always be the most important one. I'm asking you, please, just have one meal with him."
As Sharon spoke, tears streamed down her face, a picture of wretched sorrow.
Just then, Linden Nathan seemed to reach his breaking point. "Don't say any more," he said, his voice cracking. "Just let her go."
Cecilia stopped, her expression unreadable.
"Miss Nathan, if you'll just have a meal with Godfather, I… I'll go to the police station. I'll voluntarily cooperate with their investigation."
