Chapter 11 - When the Cosmos Tremble

Tenno knelt on the reformed platform, chest heaving, aura flickering like a dying star struggling to ignite. The Monarch's blood pulsed inside him — heavy, ancient, overwhelming. Every heartbeat felt like a cosmic drumbeat echoing across realities.

Veylar hovered above him, cloak rippling with void‑light.

"You have done what few beings could even comprehend," the Rift Warden said. "You surpassed your own perfected future. You shattered the limit the Monarch himself once feared."

Tenno forced himself to stand. His legs trembled, but his eyes burned with new intensity.

"What happens now?" he asked.

Veylar extended a hand.

"Now… the cosmos reacts."

The void around them trembled.

A distant rumble echoed across the infinite expanse — not sound, but a vibration of existence itself. Stars flickered. Dimensions shivered. The abyss below churned violently.

Tenno frowned. "What is that?"

Veylar's expression darkened.

"The moment you awakened the Rift Protocol, every being attuned to cosmic authority felt it. Your rise has disrupted the balance. And some… will not tolerate your existence."

Tenno clenched his fists. "Let them come."

"You misunderstand," Veylar said. "They already have."

---

The First Omen

A ripple tore through the void.

Not a rift — a scar. A wound in reality that bled darkness. The temperature dropped. The stars dimmed. Even the abyss recoiled.

Tenno felt a chill crawl up his spine.

"What is that?"

Veylar's voice lowered.

"A Herald."

The scar widened, revealing a towering figure wrapped in chains forged from collapsing universes. Its eyes glowed with cold, merciless intelligence. Its presence alone made Tenno's newly awakened power flicker.

The Herald stepped forward, dragging its chains behind it. Each link clattered with the weight of extinguished worlds.

"Proto‑Monarch," it said, voice like grinding stone. "Your awakening violates the Edict of Equilibrium."

Tenno narrowed his eyes. "And who exactly are you supposed to be?"

The Herald raised its chained arms.

"I am Zathriel, Herald of the Celestial Tribunal. I am here to deliver judgment."

Tenno scoffed. "Judgment? For what — existing?"

"For inheriting a power forbidden to all living beings," Zathriel replied. "The Monarch of Destruction was sealed for a reason. His lineage was meant to end."

Tenno's blood boiled. "Too bad for you — it didn't."

Zathriel's chains rattled.

"Then I will correct the mistake."

---

The Rift Protocol Activates

Tenno's system erupted with alerts.

[HOST THREAT LEVEL: COSMIC]

[RIFT PROTOCOL—DEFENSIVE MODE ACTIVATED]

[NEW FUNCTION UNLOCKED: REALITY ANCHOR]

[NEW FUNCTION UNLOCKED: VOID REJECTION]

Tenno felt the Protocol syncing with him — not violently like before, but smoothly, as if recognizing the need for immediate combat.

Veylar stepped back.

"This is your first test as Proto‑Monarch. I cannot interfere."

Tenno cracked his knuckles. "Good. I don't need help."

Zathriel raised a hand.

The chains shot forward like serpents, tearing through the void, aiming straight for Tenno's throat.

Tenno reacted instantly.

He activated Void Rejection.

A pulse of destructive authority erupted from his body, bending space and deflecting the chains. The shockwave tore through the arena, sending fragments spiraling into the abyss.

Zathriel didn't flinch.

"Impressive. But insufficient."

He slammed his chains into the ground.

The void shattered.

---

The Battle Begins

Tenno leapt back as the platform split apart, swallowed by a storm of celestial fire. Zathriel moved with terrifying speed, his chains carving through space like blades.

Tenno countered with a burst of chaotic energy, but Zathriel absorbed it with a flick of his wrist.

"You wield destruction," Zathriel said. "But you lack discipline."

Tenno snarled. "Funny — that's what my future self said."

He thrust his hand forward.

Reality Anchor activated.

The space around Zathriel froze — not physically, but metaphysically. His movements slowed, his chains stiffened, his aura dimmed.

Zathriel's eyes widened. "You can anchor reality? Impossible."

Tenno smirked. "Get used to it."

He launched forward, fist blazing with Monarchial authority. The punch connected with Zathriel's chest, sending the Herald crashing into the abyss.

The void screamed.

Zathriel rose slowly, cracks forming across his armor.

"You are dangerous," he said. "Too dangerous to live."

He raised both arms.

The chains expanded, multiplying into thousands, each one infused with the Tribunal's judgment.

Tenno's system chimed.

[WARNING: CELESTIAL EXECUTION PROTOCOL DETECTED]

[RECOMMENDATION: UNLEASH MONARCHIAL CORE]

Tenno felt the core inside him — the same destructive essence he stabilized during the trial — pulsing violently.

He hesitated.

Veylar's voice echoed behind him.

"Do not fear your power. Fear what happens if you refuse to use it."

Tenno exhaled.

"Fine."

He let the Monarchial Core ignite.

---

The Proto‑Monarch Awakens

A pillar of destructive light erupted from Tenno's body, piercing the void and splitting the scar in reality. His aura expanded, swallowing the battlefield in a storm of annihilation.

Zathriel recoiled.

"This… this is impossible. You cannot control that power!"

Tenno stepped forward, eyes glowing with pure destructive authority.

"Watch me."

He raised his hand.

The chains shattered.

Zathriel screamed as the Monarchial Core's energy tore through his form, unraveling his existence thread by thread.

Tenno clenched his fist.

"Judgment denied."

He unleashed a final blast.

Zathriel's body disintegrated into dust, swallowed by the abyss.

The scar in reality sealed itself.

Silence returned.

---

The Aftermath

Tenno collapsed to one knee, panting heavily. The Monarchial Core dimmed, returning to a dormant state.

Veylar descended, expression unreadable.

"You have slain a Herald of the Tribunal," he said. "This act will not go unnoticed."

Tenno wiped sweat from his brow. "Let them come. I'm done running."

Veylar shook his head.

"You misunderstand again. The Tribunal is not the only force that felt your awakening."

He pointed toward the void.

A distant light flickered.

Then another.

Then dozens.

Then hundreds.

Each one a presence.

A power.

A being watching him.

Tenno's heart pounded.

"What are those?"

Veylar's voice was grave.

"Those are the Monarch's enemies. The ones who once feared him. The ones who now fear you."

The lights grew brighter.

Closer.

Hungrier.

Veylar placed a hand on Tenno's shoulder.

"Prepare yourself, Chaos Tenno.

Your true war begins now."
